Hi guys!
what do u say to speak about the features that we would like to have on the next system update (6.0.0)?

NOTE: thread constantly updated

let's start:
-2nd GamePad support
and possibility of use gamepad as pro controller (for ex for play mario kart 8 and a friend bear his own gamepad)
-improve wii shortcut:
Wii Remote Plus: the possibility of start wii mode "tv only" by holding B during the boot screen (now i have to turn off the gamepad everytime -.-, so we need a setting option for "tv only" further then "tv+gamepad");
GamePad: add a wii icon (near wiiU icon) for start wii by TV button
-gamecube retrocompability with the arrive of gamecube adaptor: is WiiU capable of Gamecube emulation? (reading GC mini disc?) i hope so. maybe creating an image file for the memory cards
-extending the pad compabilty, for ex. the possibility of use the AMAZING gamecube controllers with other games, not only for Super Smash Bros. Wii U
-integration 3ds-wii u: for ex 3ds as controller, or maybe as a gamepad (maybe new nintendo 3ds)
-internet browser improvements (for ex screen rotation, image display, etc)
-adblock and popup block options for the internet browser (or maybe an URL Filter)
-add special amiibo features or app on the wiiu menù and extend the amiibo compability with other games (Super Mario 3D World )
-ADD SD CARD FEATURES (for ex. the possibility to use it as a memory card for transfer games save data to other console or allow downloaded software to be stored on SD card like you can with the 3DS)
-add AUTOMATIC standby function for wii u gamepad (that we can regulate by settings menu), and the option with which we can TURN OFF the gamepad (not only the screen) when we don't want to use it in any software (for ex in wii sport club, etc.)
-quick start menu without the other sleep functions
-gamepad as classic controller for wii mode, and for WII U mode too (by TURN OFF the SCREEN, for battery life always)
-increase the number of mii that you can create
-increase the number of friends that you can have
-modernize user interface and more customization (wallpapers and icons for the folders downloadable or stamps from games; possibility of change start up intro with cool start up intro animation or with different imagine...maybe with the different nintendo characters near wii u logo... for ex. pikmin intro or mario intro)
-improve friends notifications and chat (Real notification system (for ex when friends signing of, or when we get messages), Real messaging system, Party chat, etc)---message to friends directly from the FRIENDS list
-use Miiverse display names for when friends are online instead of their NNID. people can't keep track of what NNID goes with what friend.
-Bluetooth support for wireless headsets
-on the quick start screen, remove disc based games that are no longer in the Wii U
-add the possibility of "automatic date and time update"
-add more Mii customisation
-add the possibility to use the gamecube adaptor in wii mode for the Wii games and peripherals that use the gamecube controller and connector (for ex "cyberbike magnetic edition") --- the wii operating system support the gamecube things. so they could release an application from Wii Shop that unlocks the gamecube controller compability without modificate wii mode
-voice chat
-extend the Wii U Microphone compability (for ex on youtube app)
-wii u pro controller as classic controller pro for wii mode
-It would be pretty cool if Miiverse got animated gif support so that instead of posting just screenshots, we could post 30 second flashback clips or something! Players could also watch them at "in game" speed, or in slow motion.
So here's how it could work (for the player). The big system update is that you can save replay data for up to 15 minutes per clip. Can't use system memory. Pressing Home achieves two things at once. It captures the screenshot for the moment (as usual) but it also saves the last 15 minutes of gameplay video! Players can open the new Photos & Videos App to view their media, and cut 30 second clips out to share across Miiverse at anytime.
-add amiibo backup function
-improve data management (save data backup, sd card management, etc)
-add RESET software option for Wii U HOME screen
-increase the number of games that you can have ( https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/wii-u/help3#reply-01 )
-stability, more optimizing and speeding things up

p.s. sorry for my english

RUMOR: the gamecube adaptor will allow to play 8 players at the same time on Super Smash Bros U (Edit: CONFIRMED)

CONFIRMED FEATURES:
-NFC reader compability with: amiibo and other things like cards (They mention non-figure based ‘amiibo’ are being planned, saying that they are developing cards as part of the ‘amiibo’ project.)
-2 gamecube adaptors compability for 8 players (Super Smash Bros. for Wii U)
-7 wii remote plus, 7 wii u pro controller, 8 nintendo 3ds or 2ds as controllers (Super Smash Bros. for Wii U)
-pre-download system (The “pre-download” system is a system in which consumers who have purchased the game before its release can download most of the game content in advance. Using this system, consumers will not have to wait for a long time to download the game after its release. They will then be able to start playing the game by only downloading a requisite minimum amount of update data.)

NEWS 1: amiibo figures will only be able to hold information for one game at a time
“Amiibo can only store data for one read/write compatible game at a time. If you wish to use the data from other read/write compatible software, please erase the data in the ‘Amiibo settings’ section of the Wii U settings menu.” However, Nintendo also states that an Amiibo with data already stored on it can still be used for read-only games, such as those in which it unlocks secret items.
(For example. a Captain Falcon Amiibo with Smash Bros data stored on it can still be used to unlock a Captain Falcon suit in Mario Kart 8, since it does not require data to be stored on the figure.)

NEWS 2: Nintendo is working on a new update for Miiverse that will be released later this month.
profile pages will be viewable on the web version of Miiverse without the need to log in with a Nintendo Network ID. Registered users will be able to adjust the settings of who can/can’t view their profile. If set to “everyone”, anyone visiting Miiverse will be able to see your profile page – even if they aren’t logged in. A specific date for the new Miiverse update was not shared. However, it will arrive in mid-November.

SYSTEM UPDATE 5.3.0--->Nintendo launched a Wii U system menu update (10 NOV 2014) that added Amiibo functionality, including the ability to register an Amiibo owner and nickname, delete data written to an Amiibo by supported software, or reset an Amiibo. This is a video that shows how 5.3.0 amiibo update works http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfQ_Yz-vsrY

5.3.1---> (01 DEC 2014) fix issues that some users were having with uploading highlight reels from Mario Kart 8 to YouTube. As usual, the update will also “improve system stability” and “enhance the user experience”.
5.3.2--->(05 DEC 2014) stability and improving the user experience

For the last time, the Wii U cannot read GameCube discs, because the discs are too small, and they would need to have built in a disc drive specifically for that. Also, you need a GameCube memory card to save GCN games.

IIRC, there is a physical component that prevents those discs from being read, but the components that align those mini discs is still present (to prevent problems). It is the same with later Wii SKUs that dropped GC support.

  • Able to use Wii mode entirely with just the Gamepad.
  • Faster load times for system apps (I don't know why it annoys me so much to wait 20 seconds to make a 2 second change in settings).
  • ...That's it, I guess? Folders and the Gamepad input for Wii mode are my big ones, and we just got one of those.

As for the Gamecube controller compatibility you want, that would require patches for every game individually. An easier option would be to design a Pro Controller that has the same shape and weight of a Gamecube controller.

For a system update I want better Wii integration. No separate menu!

That looks completely bad donkey! Nothing to do with a Wii U system update, but I would so buy that controller!!!

Aboud Gamepad with the Wii, well, games like Mario Galaxy were built around the Wiimote so that would require major modulation. (would be nice though)

caching optical disks to the hdd so just a simple disk check is needed before the fan can be switched off.

The thing about backwards compatibility is that it's mostly about getting people to migrate from the immediately previous system. Or to jump onto the bandwagon before there's a huge library for the new system. Classic example was when the 3DS launched and the only portable game anyone wanted to play was Pokemon Black/White. Throwing in hardware support for physical games from two generations back? I don't see it. Sorry, if you want to see GC support on the Wii U I'd put my money on it appearing on the VC if it does.

As for the rest.... well they're never going to push for Adblock to be allowed on the browser, not least of all because they will want to keep google happy. Amiibo? Sure, I reckon we'll see more for it. How it turns out is anyones guess though. And support for the GC controllers with other games? Yeah, I really hope so. Not least of all with N64 VC when that eventually comes. Ugh/meh on the other suggestions I reckon.

Nothing it doesn't work in Wii U mode at all.

What I most want to see would be the ability to use the Wii U gamepad (And Pro Controller) as Classic Controller substitutes. After Nintendo finally patched in 4:3 support for Wii mode (Prior to a year ago when Nintendo finally fixed it, when set to HD, Wii mode was indiscriminately stretched to 16:9 regardless if it was correct), that's my most wanted feature.

Hopefully Nintendo at least patches in GCN controller support for their big, gamepad oriented, 1st party multiplayer releases. If someone already has things set up for multiplayer Super Smash Brothers, the ability to use the same setup in games like Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Mario Kart 8 would come in handy.

There's some precedence that they'd do something of the sort as shown by when New Super Mario Bros. U was patched to enable Pro Controller compatibility.

theWAITisOVER wrote:

Wii U is natively capable of running GameCube code. No need to emulate it, as shown by homebrew.

He was talking about Virtual Console downloads. And also as shown by homebrew, no need for actual GameCube memory cards to save your progress in GCN games.

And ignoring likely issues with the disc drive that would prevent reading actual GCN discs (Making what I'm about to say, moot, if accurate), a virtual memory card setup would also work just fine with actual GCN discs. And interfacing original memory cards to transfer original saves over would be as simple as releasing a $5-$10 USB memory card cable just as Sony did on the PS3 for PS1/PS2 memory cards (And would hardly be a necessity).

You can upload SD card Animal Crossing pictures from the AC Plaza, but that's it, AFAIK, and you can do that straight from the 3DS, now, That was before Miiverse on 3DS.

They can and probably will use it for more things, but that isn't really the case, for the time being, besides Wii mode.

As for the OP, it can be anything really. There will always be stability, themes will probably happen, better Miiverse, they could add better friend communication, or anything really. It all depends on what's convenient and can't be abused. There will also be a point where 2 GamePads are supported, so apps can make use of that, or possibly allow 2 apps to run at once, which they did mention a while ago at E3 2011(when they first announced the Wii U). Whether those concepts are being worked on or even exist anymore is anyone's guess.

It's unlikely at this point that two Wii U gamepads will ever be supported. Wii U is nearly two years old and that feature remains absent. Not to mention the practicality of it and the fact that you can't just go out and buy another ~$100 Wii U gamepad for multiplayer even if you were crazy enough to want to.

The touch screen hasn't been a revolution for single player console gaming or asynchronous multiplayer. Why would it someday in the future be important enough for local multiplayer when we're already at what's likely the midway point for the Wii U, that they'd bother implementing it?

Nothing really that's major. Nintendo already stated why they are not opting Wii U for flash memory. Hard drives work much better for the Wii U.

Also, I doubt the Gamepad for Wii will ever happen.

They already said they plan on doing it. If you don't think their words mean anything, then why even bother? If it were to ever be supported, GamePads would be available in stores, obviously, and the price for production is always falling. Knowing Nintendo, they'll wait until it's cheap and convenient to support those features, which isn't today or yesterday. The GamePad not benefiting your experience with the Wii U is entirely opinionated.
Besides, this isn't the halfway point for Wii U. It hasn't even been 2 years and 8th gen as a whole, on any console, hasn't really kicked off yet. The slightly enhanced 7th gen ports are solid proof that 8th gen isn't even really here yet, and it's already been a year for Xbox and PS.

Why they would implement 2 GamePad use, 2 or more years after release, is just about as questionable as releasing Miiverse on 3DS almost 2.5 years after that came out, themes, or the SD card menu they added on Wii around the time Wii Ware came out. Are we really going to limit ourselves to saying that it didn't happen yesterday or today, so it won't happen tomorrow? That's pretty pessimistic, TBH.

They wanted to support multiple apps and whatever else. They said it at E3, and it's technically not impossible.

maybe they could add the possibility to use SD card as a memory card. when i go to friends i'd like to bring only the memory card not the whole console xD

in addition i would like to have brain training free with the next firmware update, as well as they do for the 5.0.0 software update. or at least make it available on eshop PLEASE NINTENDO

p.s. i don't know why, but i think that the new gamepad will be the NEW 3ds XL, maybe usable also as a 2nd gamepad
