They already said they plan on doing it. If you don't think their words mean anything, then why even bother?

Except they never said this. Take this recent quote from Miyamoto for example.

"Certainly as we've been working on Wii U, I think we're at a point where we don't feel it's realistic to expect people to purchase two GamePads yet. We're still trying to get as many people as possible to buy the system itself, and that's where our focus is right now. For the time being, two GamePad gameplay is not within our objectives in the short-term."

However, he did stress that this decision is not because of technical constraints: "From a technical standpoint, I think if we decided to pursue that, technically we would be able to and we can perform system updates that would allow for that"

You're overly fond of stating your opinion as if it was fact. All Nintendo has ever said is that they're open to this possibility. I'll believe we'll see dual gamepad support when it actually is announced. Until then and with Nintendo's difficulty in fully exploiting this controller for single player experiences and asynchronous local multiplayer, together with the hurdles posed by the cost of this accessory, I'll believe we'll get dual gamepad local multiplayer when I actually see it.

They said it at E3, but they said it wouldn't happen right away after that, which is what you are quoting. Anyone who has been paying attention didn't expect them to have 2 GamePads until later on, in the first place. I totally agree that it's not the right time to do it, but they basically already said it will happen eventually. They're words from Nintendo themselves.

THIS.

I hate the gamepad. I don't think it's a bad piece of technology, but I never use it, and it comes on all the time when I don't want it to. If I turn on the Wii U with the Pro, then the Pad should stay off. And vice-versa. The other day, I was at a MK8 tourney, and they had the hardest time getting four Pros to sync up without the Pad interfering. It worked, eventually, but it was way too complicated. The stupid thing should stay off unless you want it on, which, in my case, is never.

No, they didn't say that. They've said several times that the console was technically able to support dual gamepads (Unlike their earliest plans), including what you linked from before launch from E3, with the frame rate of each video stream halved.

But they have never said that anything was coming that would utilize this feature. It may or may not happen, but with the logistics involved, the point we're at in its lifespan, the system's situation in general, and their inability to really justify this touch screen in the products that they've provided so far casts a lot of doubt that we'll ever see a local multiplayer release that takes advantage of two gamepads.

All they've said is that it's an option that the system is capable of supporting. No more, no less...

The fact that you're bringing something up from over two years ago (Before the Wii U ever even launched) that has yet to happen should be evidence enough that it's hardly a sure thing that we're going to get something that takes advantage of dual Wii U gamepads. But I watched it just the same and again, he's talking about future possibilities.

They haven't happened so far and very well may never. And they certainly haven't announced otherwise, despite claims to the contrary from you.

I'd never take advantage of it and I don't see such a release ever happening, but I'd love to see a good Intellivision compilation appear with this feature.

Well, if Reggie saying to look forward to 2 GamePad use in the future isn't enough for you, then I agree nothing will be enough for you until it actually happens. It was enough for me, though.

the fact that the gamepad turn on with the console is right, because nintendo want to give us the imagine of unity between gamepad and console. And it's OK.
but, in order to save battery, is also right to have the possibility to turn off the gamepad when we don't want to play with during a game.
and a stanby function is necessary for the same consideration

There's no sense in turning the gamepad on when you've turned the system on via a Wii remote or a Pro Controller. If someone wanted to use the gamepad, they'd of picked up the gamepad.

i don't think nintendo will add this possibility because for nintendo the gamepad is integral part of the console (in fact the gamepad is needed for the settings menu)... but in order to save battery charge solutions are needed. and they're the automatic standby function and, most important, the possibility to turn off the gamepad during a game when we don't want to use it.
turn off is different from standby because in standby the gamepad and the link with console are activated.

btw, i hope that nintendo will do an amazing work for the next update! i'm hopeful!

I get that it's an integral part of the Wii U experience. But since people don't have four hands, when they're using a different controller such as what I did last night when I started my system up with my Pro Controller to play some Virtual Console games, there's no need for it to automatically turn itself on.

It's an integral part of the system, but unless it's needed, it doesn't need to be on. That I can do what I said above just fine with my Wii U gamepad out of communication range is proof positive that it doesn't need to be on just for the sake of being on.

For me the dual gamepad delima is the same as the GameCube being able to support stereoscopic 3D, was it capable? yes, did it happen? no.

Theres a chance it might but the likelyhood of dual gamepad support in the near future or even ever, seems slim.

rumor: the gamecube adaptor will allow to play 8 players at the same time, now it's all much clearer

btw, i read around the web other things that people can appreciate:
-quick start menu without the other sleep functions
-gamepad as classic controller for wii mode, and for wii u mode too (by turn off the screen, for battery life always)

It would be nice if we could use the stamps from games as icons for the folders or just some king of icon pack because the folders are too bland.

I'll tell you what I'm always hankering for - it'd be nice if the Wii U could run two softwares at once, and not just the ones on the home menu. For example, I'd like to be able to watch Netflix on the TV and play Mario Kart on the Gamepad, or be able to have a walkthrough open on the Gamepad while playing Virtual Console titles on the TV. There's probably no way it would work but it's definitely something I'd use all the time.

Having the option to switch off the Gamepad would also be brilliant. Conserving its battery life is something I actively strive for while playing and I'm surprised we don't have this feature.
