Why don't most Blu-Ray players have ranking systems? There's no good reason why a BR player in 2016 doesn't have them, when the Wii U does.
Nice logic. It's standard these days for gaming consoles to have a DVD player and it would help Nintendo actually look credible against Microsoft and Sony. It's not like anyone would be complaining if Nintendo DID have a dvd player.
Here we go again Sony and MS does it so Nintendo has to do it as well. I hate that logic.
And no its not standard form game systems to have a DVD player. What's standard is games being on an optical disc whether it's DVD, Blu-ray or their own proprietary disc and Wii U does that. Heck even games being on disc is slowing coming to and end thanks to services like Steam, PSN, XBLA and eShop.
And according to your logic I suppose we should be expecting a similar thread as to why the 3DS doesn't play DVDs.

Well my wifi is fine for my Xbox One and laptops, just my Wii U hiccups while streaming.
It's probably just interference issues on the 2.4Ghz band. From what I understand the XBOne runs on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. The PS4 only runs on 2.4Ghz AFAIK and so does the Wii U. Both wireless n. So sorry but it probably is a case of your WiFi being garbage.

@Rexcalibr why won't you answer me about a paid service to use Nintendos online services just like Sony and Microsoft. They need to get with the times right? How about you and I blow up their Twitter begging to let us pay for it.
Death to DVDs. I'm sick of new content that is shot at 4K being released on home video on DVD only (if at all!). There's so much content that I want to buy on Blu-ray and yet I'm never given the option to do so. And I'm not interested in paying the same amount of money for a DRM-locked downloadable version at 1/8th of the bitrate with bog-standard audio, no special features or optional subtitles.
It's absolutely embarrassing that people are still using such (figuratively) ancient technology while virtually everybody in the developed world owns a Full HD (if not greater!) TV. A good quality 25GB Blu-ray costs me about half of an equivalent 8.5GB DVD, giving me little reason at all to bother with DVDs in this day and age. Blu-rays can also be useful for cutting down on discs for standard definition material, as old shows can be stored on significantly fewer discs (and perhaps take advantage of lossless audio as well).
I can easily find good quality DVD players for $24-$30 anyway (and that's in Australian dollars!), so why add to the cost of a device that doesn't need such functionality? DVD/Blu-ray playback is usually gypped on consoles anyway (If I recall correctly, the PS3 is only capable of 3D playback at 720p, and some, if not all, lossless audio tracks are not supported). Having Blu-ray/DVD playback on Wii U would also defeat the purpose considering that the console boasts off-TV play as a selling point.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
Nintendo is my favorite, but I have to argue the paid network comments. If Nintendo provided a network like Live and gave away games each month then they could charge. The problem is that they would be out of free games in 6 months for the Wii U. I wouldn't want all the free cellphone games that publishers are charging $10 for either. My kids laugh at me when they look at the garbage I have paid money for since I am trying to purchase every last Wii U release (digital and physical).
@JohnBlackstar funny thing is most of the games they "give away" are also indies. If you go to any ps or Xbox forum you will see endless complaining about the selection. Also keep in mind Sony just did a price hike and they are angry about that as well. I also wasn't making an argument but pointing out how following the heard isn't always what's best. I will however enjoy my Zelda picross and my wario ware that I paid absolutely nothing for. Good night.
Matter of fact its a little bit disappointing. Personally I wouldnt use a console that I want to play games with for anything else but gaming. Playing dvds or even blurays uses up the player faster than if you are just playing games. But thats hust my opinion.
@Rexcalibr
And the PSP didn't use cartridges, tried to push the whole "you can buy movies for it" angle. Then basically gave up on the idea. Nintendo has also toyed around with the idea of movies on cartriges. Never really took off. If memory serves me correctly they put cartoons on GBA cartridges. Don't know if they did it with the DS or 3DS. Never cared either. Because consoles are for games.
Face it, there are only two consoles where media functionality mattered. The PS2 and the PS3. Everything else before, since and during? Nobody has cared. With the XBOne nobody cared almost to the point where it actually hurt the system. So sorry, but I don't buy into your whine.

@Pahvi
My brother had a PS1. I don't ever remember him playing CDs on it. And it kinda makes sense why he didn't when you think about it. When you want to listen to music? You want to play it through your stereo. That was kinda an essential piece of kit. And in the mid 90s your stereo had a CD player, AM/FM tuner and dual-cassette.
To put it another way, the Saturn and PS1 both came out in 1995
CDs were already the dominant media for music by then
