Brawl. It's even more accessible due to the reduced speed and sensitivity, and because of some mechanics such as air dodging being improved. I also like how many of the “clone” fighters were removed, replaced, or heavily altered, and how there was a more even distribution in series representation. Some of the modes, like Event Match and Target Smash, were better in Melee, and Melee generally had more creative stages, but I prefer Brawl overall thanks to the gameplay tweaks and the character roster.
No it's not. It's really not. I don't even like Melee, but it doesn't take a fan to realize that Brawl basically stripped out any amount of dignity, complexity, and balance the series might've had as a legitimately competitive fighting game, further bringing the series into mear party favor territory that you break out when your friends don't want to play a real fighting game.

Which doesn't make it a worse game, just a different style of game
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

LOL its obviously subjective but I know TONS of people that play Smash Bros and none of them play Brawl. I was in college when Brawl was released and literally everyone bought it and went right back to Melee a few months later.
For the record I dont think Brawl is a bad game. I just think Melee does a lot of things better.
Four more months until Bayonetta 2.

“A thing may be too sad to be believed or too wicked to be believed or too good to be believed; but it cannot be too absurd to be believed in this planet of frogs and elephants, of crocodiles and cuttle-fish.”
― G.K. Chesterton
Brawl isn't bad per se, it's just that Melee is much, much better to play.
But when taking Project M into account, Brawl suddenly gains some new appeal.
