this is so far off, how can we even begin to think about it. you shouldn't say coming soon, it will be quite awhile and if you think its any sooner you are sadly mistaken.

i just ready my post ind realized it may have come of kind of mean, didn't intend it like that. but i guess i will add one point to the discussion, the tablet could have the items shown on it in a column slot wheel style but with one slot., minimap on the right of that column. it would reduce screen clutter, however i dont like taking my eyes off a racing game, so a miniature view of the top screen on the top right and the place below that. so i guess that makes the map in the middle. however the hud could be moved back up if you prefer and the tablet would just become a smaller upper screen. obviously i am thinking the tablet as a steering wheel, but that optional. maybe PARTS of the hud could be moved to the upper screen and the other pieces expand accordingly. well thats my predictions, but im also estimating a 2013 release date to be honest,

To take the vehicle customization one step further. Picking colors, more body options, and add more things like diving and flying to the game. Basically i want my own unique kart.
Skill Over Luck:The only thing I ask if for driving skill to have a bigger impact than luck. I'd also ask for . I would prefer everyone to be on mostly the same footing when racing, that means less customization options on the karts, so winning will require driving skill and not kart choice or luck. I'd like the skidding feature of the N64 Mario Kart to return. It gives a small speed boost when you end your skid while the skid "sound" is red (the VEEEEEEEEE letters).
Appearances of the Karts: I also demand that Nintendo remove the ridiculous rocket booster exhaust things on the back of the karts and make the karts look more like go-karts. Another thing I'd like is for the karts to look less ridiculous in general. I don't like that Donkey Kong's kart is made out of a barrel. He should just be riding a regular kart with DK colors.
New Features:To keep the series fresh they should copy features of other popular racing games like:
Various hidden collectible items and shortcuts like in San Francisco Rush.
A very minimal air trick or stunt system that gives you a tiny speed boost when you land.
Miscellaneous: Lower the amount of obstacles on the track and remove some of the guard rails/walls that line the tracks. It's not fun to have to run an obstacle course on every race, and it's also not fun to bump into walls everywhere and slow to a near stop. Instead of walls that line the track, put grass or some other terrain that slows down the kart. This way a player who can't stay inside the track will slow down due to the terrain instead of coming to a near stop due to the walls.
It's not supposed to be fun to run into walls or obstacles. The goal is to avoid those.
Customizing your kart isn't bad. Everyone can do it, so you're still on even ground. It's no different than choosing a different driver in earlier games, just more interesting and varied this way.
The original is the only I run into walls much because I always expect it to control like the other games.
Many MK tracks are outside and actually do have what you're asking for, though: rough terrain on the side of the road to slow you down if you go off track. Think of any of the Mario/Luigi circuits, Moo Moo Farm, Kalimari Desert.
The problem is that the tracks are obstacle courses, so running into walls is common.
Then learn to be better at Mario Kart. If you suck that much at it pick a kart with high acceleration and a lower top speed to make up for your lack of skill in avoiding walls. Then let the people with skill go "screw that! I'm going with the heavy kart with the Bowser awesomeness top speed and grinding to a halt when I hit your banana peels and such".........

We'll just have to wait until Mario Kart 3DS to see in which direction the series is heading.
You know what would be cool? A fusion of Mario Kart + F-Zero. It would basically be the Mario Kart characters racing in futuristic F-Zero hover-karts in futuristic locations from the Mario universe, the Star Fox universe, the Metroid universe, and the F-Zero universe. The driving controls and gameplay would be mostly from Mario Kart, and it would only borrow a very limited amount of driving gameplay from the F-Zero games due to the hovering nature of the futuristic karts.
Sonic the Hedgehog, Zero, Jill Valentine, Chie Satonaka, and Vegeta will all be playable characters.
