MKW's walls were a few miles apart. You should be eliminated from the race for hitting one.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

I think your Wii should be bricked if you hit walls.

check out the trailer for Mario Kart 7. The track shown there is so narrow and full of useless eye-candy obstacles.

You know what feature I'd want? Horns.

Big loud car horns that can scare the bejesus out of players. It sounds unreasonable, but it could probably only be used once in a race by every racer. :D

If that seems too unorthodox, then maybe a virtual wheel on the touch screen that we can control with our thumbs to drive. It would be so virtually realistic. :D

It may be the fact that I am doubtedly inebriated on pain meds for a headache (this is a joke), but unfortunately, these two ideas will obviously get me pummelled with vegetables of all kinds, so I shall just retire here.

Skill Over Luck:The only thing I ask if for driving skill to have a bigger impact than luck. I'd also ask for . I would prefer everyone to be on mostly the same footing when racing, that means less customization options on the karts, so winning will require driving skill and not kart choice or luck. I'd like the skidding feature of the N64 Mario Kart to return. It gives a small speed boost when you end your skid while the skid "sound" is red (the VEEEEEEEEE letters).

Appearances of the Karts: I also demand that Nintendo remove the ridiculous rocket booster exhaust things on the back of the karts and make the karts look more like go-karts. Another thing I'd like is for the karts to look less ridiculous in general. I don't like that Donkey Kong's kart is made out of a barrel. He should just be riding a regular kart with DK colors.

New Features:To keep the series fresh they should copy features of other popular racing games like:

  • Various hidden collectible items and shortcuts like in San Francisco Rush.
  • A very minimal air trick or stunt system that gives you a tiny speed boost when you land.

Miscellaneous: Lower the amount of obstacles on the track and remove some of the guard rails/walls that line the tracks. It's not fun to have to run an obstacle course on every race, and it's also not fun to bump into walls everywhere and slow to a near stop. Instead of walls that line the track, put grass or some other terrain that slows down the kart. This way a player who can't stay inside the track will slow down due to the terrain instead of coming to a near stop due to the walls.

So basically make the next Mario Kart not Mario Kart ;)

I was thinking more along the lines of making the next Mario Kart into Mario Go Cart Racing.

@NotFinite You just can't change a franchise that drastically with one sequel. That just wouldn't be Mario Kart anymore. Not to criticise, but those ideas put together would pervert the entire game as we know it.

See, the thing about Mario Kart is that the luck over skill balance gives a wide range of players a chance; both newcomers and veterans. It isn't fair, but I guess Nintendo didn't just want a select group of experts winning all the time. It makes it so that no race is the same. But that doesn't mean I don't agree with how annoying it is. :P

Also, the appearance of the karts are unique and wacky. Donkey Kong in a barrel is his trademark. I suppose it is a little off-putting and kiddish, but Nintendo is who they are, and when it comes to creativity...

I do agree about the walls though. The terrain would be a much better alternative.

The game already favors skill much more than luck. Luck is just a convenient excuse for those who lose.

The kart selection has nothing at all to do with luck unless you select random. The only source of luck is items, and most items can be blocked by trailing a banana (which you'll get plenty of in first place — where you'll be if you're the most skilled) or other item. Blue shells are your only real worry. But even these can be strategically dealt with, and in some games even dodged.

Anyone who disagrees with this assessment is welcome to race me when MK7 comes out.

I'm with you. And if you're good enough you can get far away from others and not even Blue Shell can drop you out from the first place. Unfortunately most of the time there's some players that can keep up with the speed and they can't be left behind that easily.

That, too. Yoshi's Falls was my best course in MKDS, and I could handle being blue shelled twice without much of a problem. And even with the blue shell, you have to consider that second place is getting bombarded with red shells since red shells are more common in the middle of the pack. What luck there is balances itself out.

And if second place is real close, you can hit the brakes and make him get hit, too (or better yet, pass you up and get hit instead of you), if the tracks aren't super wide like in MKW.

I do this all the time, works wonders when it works and you get third aswell.

As long as I can still pull off my mushroom avoiding skill then I'm happy.

Never having played Mario Kart (only other racing games, but not out of choice), I only assumed the luck over skill thing was true over the opinion of others. Anywho, I'm still curious to see how Mario Kart 7 shall turn out. I'd like to test these theories.
