Topic: I feel bad for Nintendo Land

Nintendo Land is one of those games that I feel will just be remembered as another lazy, casual, minigame collection made to appeal to the lowest common denominator rather than a "REAL" gaming experience. This is especially true with Nintendo focusing more on bundles for everything else. That's honestly a shame, Nintendo Land should have done way better than it did. at least comparing it to Wii Sports success. Neither are the best game ever or anything like that but Nintendo Land is honestly a brilliant introduction to what the console and controller can do, especially what I was able to play of multiplayer. It really sold on the asymmetric gameplay thing, Mario Chase in particular. And the single player stuff was like some fun iOS-like stuff, which is perfect considering where casuals are right now. And the Zelda and Metroid stuff felt a bit more hardcore and for the franchises hardcore gamers always love on Nintendo. It's all kinda brilliant. And I especially love the look the whole game, which people tend to ignore. It has this brilliant intentionally fake looking type of aesthetic, but like the type you would find at Disney World or whereever as it looks really good for a fake amusement park thing (though because it's a video game, they could do even more with it).

I also loved having another big crossover title, because I'm so tired of Nintendo's over-reliance on Mario and anything to get newer gamers interested in Metroid or whatever is a very good thing. But unfortunately, it seems Nintendo has given up on that being people's introduction to the console because of the console's so far failures. I mean, this doesn't hurt as much as seeing the sales for Beyond Good and Evil or Little King's Story, but it's still disappointing. It's a cool game.

I agree. It was just such a well made game all around.

I will agree I did enjoy it alot more than Wii Sports. I still play it from time to time when I have friends over, but yeah I agree it seems now with the Wind Waker bundle and now the NSMBU bundle Nintendo just wants to forget about Nintendo Land.

A really shame too cause some DLC would really perk this game up.

I enjoyed Wii Sports immensely. I've played Nintendoland once and it was very forgettable imo.

I can't wait for Wii Sports Club. It has online experiences...something Nintendoland SHOULD have had.

I loved it - thought it was awesome. I can see how you may hate it if you never get to play it with other people, though. 99% of the fun in that title is playing with friends.

I honestly never really gave it a fair shake and I don't expect that to change.

Nintendoland is a brilliant little game. I haven't had this much fun with a multiplayer in years. Wii sports should sit in a corner and be ashamed of himself. And yes I think Nintendoland should have dlc because it deserves to be in the spotlight again.

I think it's ok. I play the catching games with my family whenever they come over. Overall, I think it did a good job.

I really like Metroid Blast and the Zelda Adventure one, too, but no one ever plays those with me. I only played those with 2 other people once.

I agree. Unfortunately, I think it suffered from it's poor showing at E3, which is a shame. It really does a lot of things right, and I've rarely had that much fun playing a game with friends. Wii Sports may have had the simpler and more immediate impact, but Nintendo Land was a much better game in my opinion.

A big problem is that some of the park's brightest attractions are closed to solo gamers.

Another big problem is that the game has not been promoted at all. Mario Chase, Luigi's Ghost Mansion and Animal Crossing Sweet Day should be playable in kiosks at Best Buy, Target, GameStop, etc.

And, unlike Wii Sports, it doesn't have obvious appeal to the uninitiated. A casual gamer would look at it and wonder, "What's that?"

not all games necessary benefit from online experience - I think Nintendo Land is one of those titles that wouldn't play right online. Most of the fun I had with the game, I had it in multiplayer, and it was fun because I had frends in my house and we were all playing and laughing.

I think that the great advantage Wii Sports had is that literally anybody could play it given zero practice, and anybody could understand it because it's based on sports and sports are easy to understand because you either win or you lose. When friends came over (all of them non-videogamers) I found it was very easy for them to get into Mario Chase and they had great fun, but they found a bit harder to get into Luigi's Ghost Mansion or Metroid Blast.
I think this is the reason why Wii sold so well: people would visit their friends and play this new, novel game than anybody could play (with good results) instantly.

It's a good game in its own right, but I think that videogamers look at it as a minigame collection (which, in the west automatically equals sh*te - I don't know if the Japanese have a different point of view), while to non-gamers it looks like a weird hybrid between a proper videogame and stuff they could play on their mobile phone for free anyway (or so they think), so why get a new system for it?
I agree it does a good job at showcasing what the console can do and the asymmetric gameplay - and another thing it does well is making the players unfamiliar with Nintendo interested in franchises that are NOT Mario because Pikmin, Metroid and Zelda are arguably three of the strongest minigames in the collection. It should have done better but it didn't, so I think it's wise to move on.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

It continually surprises me by just how many people don't like it... not saying everyone should, but it certainly isn't as popular as I would expect.

Much of it does depend on who you can get to play with you. Metroid Blast with a few friends is utterly fantastic.

People actually PLAYED Nintendo Land?! When I was able to resell it for $20, I was thrilled.

While everyone else was doing Nintendo Land I was playing better games like ZombiU, COD & Assassins Creed 3... Actually I haven't even taken NL out of its case

I dunno why it was hated, it did exactly what Wii Sports did...showed off the features and new controls of the system. Yet people complained that the Wii U didn't come in with a Wii Sports-like game bundled with the system. WTF? They're both mini-compilations, lol

This.......

I thought it was a good game overall still and would definitely recommend it for those getting a bundle at $30..... I liked Zelda, Metroid, the Ninja game, twister car race, donkey kong. Haven't played it in over a month, but I'll come back to this title.
