A sports forum I frequent that has a video game board has many posts from people who are asking for opinions about the Wii-U or talking about how they bought MK8 or the bundle as well. Usually this place is pro-PS/Xbox, but there seems to be a change in opinion with much more interest in the Wii-U lately. A friend of mine's cousin bought the bundle as well and now he too is considering picking one up. There is a bit of a buzz surrounding this game, but I don't expect it to last for long, though I hope it does boost console sales from here on out.

I'm hoping it's a "gateway" game to other titles like SM3dw and Donkey Kong among others....
I see a large increasing interest in Nintendo lately. Everybody kind of expected MK8 and Smash Bros. to save the Wii U. Now that it's here, I guess they'll all start to pay attention, which will be great for sales. Now all we need is a good marketing campaign... >:[

according to some people marketing is only necessary for bad products so Nintendo should do magic and make the games exponentially bigger in the same development time by not wasting money on marketing

I have friends that are buying the Wii U bundle this week just for this game. They also really like the free game promotion that Nintendo has going right now (most of them are getting Wind Waker HD). They've been texting me and asking what other games they should pick up with it aside from the free game from Club Nintendo. So it seems like a promising gateway game.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

i've found that when people actually see the wii u and play games, they are typically impressed. i think that the deal they have going on now is pretty awesome. i had all the games but traded in mario bros to get $23 off. basically i just end up losing the case and cover art.
You said could! I find your lack of confidence....disappointing.
Well it does mean that globally Mario Kart 8 sold only about 40% less than Mario Kart Wii did in the first week (if you align the launch dates) despite the Wii having 4x as large an install base. So they're pretty insane numbers really. It was bold enough to take a guess that they might break 1mill, it's crazy that they actually did it.

I agree. We had a little get together shortly after New Years and we played 3D World for a bit. They really liked it but most of them said they wouldn't buy it until Mario Kart came out. No one wants a Wii U.... and then they play it.
I considered trading in one of my games (since I already have them all except Wii Party U, and I really don't want that)... but I like my psychical copies too much. Even if I can get money off of MK8 by trading something in, I just can't do it. I may consider just giving my download code to someone else.
According to VGChartz, 3D World sold 508,296 in 2 weeks. Huh.
Well it's a good thing the first year of a console always defines its success, or else a lot of people on the internet might start to look stupid or something.

Although the 1.2 million shipped MK8 copies is the result of pre-release marketing, there are some signs that Nintendo will need to ship lots more in the future:
The players of MK8 seem to be (generally speaking) extremely happy with the product.
The MK8 reviews are very favorable
Nintendo timed the MK8 release perfectly with the upcoming E3
Nintendo timed the release MK8 with updates of some other software, such as Pikmin 3 (which many will chose as their 2nd Wii U game) and the "quick start" in the new firmware update, likely meaning more satisfied customers.
Yesterday, I checked some shops in my country that have live stock updates on the web, and the MK8 is selling really fast. Many stores had no copies left by the end of monday. Those shipped copies are not sitting still on a shelf.
I struggled with trading it in, as i like the physical copy too. But this deal was too good, plus money has been a little tight. I can also download Luigi and essentially have Wind Waker and Mario bundles on one machine.

I reckon they could get close to 4 million software sales by next year. If NSMBU can sell that many then MK8 should sell to literally every Wii U owner.
I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.
The real question isn't how much Mario Kart 8 has sold but have how many units the system has pushed between the Mario kart bundle and what's already out there in stores. The 1.2 million is great but there's like 4-5 million Wii U systems out there. I'm hoping the system is pretty high in the NPD, in any case it should push more units than the Xbone.
WAT!

Actually it's over 6 million. Problem is its been there for a while. If Kart can't move a million systems by the end of July I'd say it was a failure! Free game and all!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.

I'm guessing numbers wise its
PS4- 8 million
Wii U- 6 million
Xbone- 4-5 million
I'm guessing Nintendo is banking on the 1 million bump for Mario kart and another one million for smash bros.
