A knock off is going to likely be of poor quality. Its a shame that to get a real one you have to pay inflated prices.

I do think the inflated prices are caused mainly by the Virtual Console having more titles on the Wii shop channel and the classic being the only way to play those. When I got my Wii I was able to find official Gamecube stuff on the cheap and acutally used my Gamecube controller for VC for a long time so Wii had two cheap VC control options while on the Wii U you don't have a quality official option anymore. I do think it is a bit of an oversight that they can fix by getting more VC content on the Eshop or by coming up with a solution that lets you use your gamepad or pro controller as a classic controller in Wii mode. I feel it is a legitimate gripe especially since I hear a lot of Nintendo fans decided to skip the Wii completely.

I agree with that, just if you want to play the games you can and these "knock offs" will still function properly, just may not last as long.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Just check on craigslist or something. On any given day there are 2-5 Wii's with accessories for sale put up on there within a 20 minute drive from my home. You can likely get a classic controller for around $5-10 easily.

Finally, it's not really Nintendo's fault that you don't like their recent games. There has been a more steady rate of games coming to Wii U, and just because you don't like them or don't feel compelled to buy them doesn't mean they don't exist. If you aren't/weren't interesting in the games on/coming to Wii U, then, uh, why'd you buy one?

Agree with this 100%. Well said.

About the VC, I may be wrong but people bought a 3DS for games like Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, AC New Leaf and Pokemon X/Y(or whatever) not for Mario Land 2 or Link's Awakening. I mean it's not like VC games never get downloaded; tons of 3DS owners bought Link's Awakening but did it sell them on a $130-200 handheld? I personally don't think so. The people who buy a brand new gaming platform just for some 10+ year old games are in the minority imo.

This thread doesn't make much sense to me. Nintendo always takes forever to do stuff.
Examples:
Wi-fi on DS - took about a year before it happened, but was promised at launch
Better storage for Wii - SD card menu happened like 2 years later when Wii Ware launched, I think
Folder options on 3DS - after like 1 year or something
Miiverse for 3DS - announced along side Wii U at E3 2011, happens in December 2013, comes with NNID integration
Better Wii U OS - happens every once in a while; includes 2 HDD use to an extent, faster loading, etc.
More games - they are happening
Unified accounts - it is improving

All these things happened slowly, but surely. Nintendo usually has their systems fully optimized by like 2-3 years after they come out. Just look at how Microsoft and Sony are handling updates on PS4 and Xbox One, and Nintendo is handling their system similarly in enhancements. I know it's not exactly what you are asking about, which is software, but it does have to do with the subject to an extent.

I think alot of the scepticism around amiibo has alot to do with the fact that it is mainly centered around Smash Bros, and the figures can be differed from that of what people see them as their main purpose. Say, if Wii Fit Trainer works for Wii Fit U, Kirby works for that new Kirby game, Link is usable for Zelda U, etc. They are still centered around Smash Bros, but their use can range for anything, really. Their "follow through" is more or less based on people recognizing the characters and what games they pertain to, so it has alot to do with perception on what will and will not work. I don't think anyone really expects Wii Fit Trainer to have any data compatibility with Mario Kart 8, for example. Nintendo isn't forcing anyone to buy these things to play their games, like Skylanders and DI, so they have to add enough value in order for people to want to buy them aside from the game.

As for VC, they've already said that they are just working on the emulator, basically. N64 games run at 480p on Wii, but now the jump to Wii U will add 1080p, clearer surround sound, restore points, etc. N64 takes alot more power to run, so getting an emulator that works just as well as the NES or SNES one obviously won't be as easy to do.

It all just comes down to perspective and patience, really. We all know N64 VC is going to happen. It's just a matter of time for us consumers.

TL;DR - please understand and be patient

Nintendo needs to follow through in ridding us of these software droughts, the lack of quality releases on a timely schedule is piss poor. Get with it N.

Why would that be a reason at all?

What's the point in buying a new product if you're not going to experience the product's newest offerings?

Exactly, but some people like to be wilfully ignorant when it suits their point.

Asking why it is a reason at all is just asking why someone would want to buy something from the Virtual Console. A pretty silly question considering how many people are actually interested in doing so.

You're right though - there isnt much point buying a new product if you're not going to experience its new offerings. Except I never said that I wasn't doing just that. Once again; I said it was one of the reasons I bought the console. I'm not saying anyone would buy the console only to play Virtual Console games (I dont see why they would), but that doesnt mean that you cant work to improve the feature just because it isnt the main selling point. It's not like they're investing a lot into it at the moment.

I love my Wii U, I love the TV Off mode, is what sold me the unit, as I can play games while my wife watches TV next to me. BUT, I do miss:

1) been able to use the Wii in TV Off mode while using the game pad controls. I'm a developer and c++ coder, so I know it IS possible to do that, but would take some effort. Specially on games like Mario Galaxy. But it is possible.

2) GAMECUBE GAMECUBE GAMECUBE GAMECUBE GAMECUBE GAMECUBE - I have tons of GC discs that I could use, what the heck? My old Wii is now with my kid, so I can't play my GC discs anymore...

Is all that bothers me right now, and I can live with that. Since I can always get an old GC if I really want, and the Wii games do work on the TV, so no big deal...

I get that these games may go through major changes before they become retail, and hopefully my mind will change by then. But Nintendo spent A LOT of time demoing those two "games", which allowed for more than enough time to come to a conclusion on whether or not they looked promising. And for me they didn't look fun, plain and simple. Nor did they fulfill the promise of utilizing the Gamepad in new interesting ways.E3 is a hype machine, that's the whole point. For the most part Nintendo did a great job, but that doesn't mean I have to blindly smile and accept everything they toss my way as "AMAZING".

Again, like the person who told me to "stop complaining and be patient", maybe instead of giving me advice on how to live, join in on the discussion and leave it at that.

I think this is the most important point to be said. If you're given enough chance to judge a game then interest and an eventual purchase will be based a lot on that. You might enjoy gaming less if you're always expecting things to suddenly get better just because they're currently in alpha stage, and end up disappointed. Things never change drastically even at this stage; especially with Nintendo. If they end up being great games I'm sure @gage_wolf and everyone else who doubted it will be pleasantly surprised.

ain't that right, @Ogo79?

nintendo should raise the price on vc games. it builds character.

Your region? US. Total number of games on Wii U Eshop, discounting retail games as download? 187. One hundred and eighty seven. (Which is a couple of dozen more my own region FYI)

Genres - Action. Adventure. Arcade. Board Game. Education. Fighting. Fitness. Party. Platformer. Puzzle. Racing. RPG. Shooter. Simulation. Sports. Strategy.

And you are complaining there is nothing to play? How can you call yourself a gamer if you can't find enjoyment in any of those genres? By the sounds of it I'm fairly sure you have never even played 95% of the stuff on there. If you are desperate to use your Wii U for gaming purposes you have no excuse. There are games. Stop your snobbery and start buying stuff.

You may be waiting a while - the Wii U disk drive is physically incompatible with Cube mini disks. I can't see them ever releasing a mini-disk adapter, so an old GameCube or Cube-compatible Wii are your only options.

Indeed. If the kid fails at school one more time I'm getting the Wii back!

But Nintendo did say they would be releasing GC games on the eShop, but I don't feel like paying again if they are too expensive... it will all depend on what changes...

It would be cheaper to just buy a 2nd hand GC or Wii. I gave my Wii away too when I bought my Wii U, but later realized that I still wanted to play GC games and so I bought a GC for $60. Don't know how many GC games you have, but if they're going to be about $12 on VC, the 2nd hand GC would pay for itself in my case with just 5 games.

187 games... how many of those are micro indie games that are barely worth my time or trouble? I didn't buy a $300 Nintendo console to play cheap indie games 6 months out of the year. I have a computer and Steam for that. Also, quantity doesn't mean anything... The Ouya has plenty of games, why aren't we all playing that?

If you are completely satisfied using your Wii U to play 5.99 bargain bin indie games, good for you. But I'm not that desperate to play games.
