I wouldn't read into it too much. As the list of Nintendo consoles becomes larger they have more and more consoles to go back to for ideas. Sunshine is just as easy to borrow ideas from as Mario 64, Super Mario World or Galaxy are. It just happens to be the only one that hasn't been on shelves as recently as the others in any form.........

I think the real answer to this is:

... do we need yet another Mario game, let alone the ump'teenth platforming game for the Wii U?

No, we absolutely do not!

Please give Mario a rest.

I find it funny how thinking that an HD remake of Super Mario Sunshine could happen due to a couple references is looked at as ridiculous, yet so many people believe that Super Mario Galaxy 3 is happening because Rosalina is playable in 3D World & Smash.

It's not just because of that, it's because Miyamoto himself and many other people working at Nintendo have openly talked about how Mario Galaxy 3 could be something that happens.

There have been several racetracks in Mario Kart over the years that haven't led to to a Sunshine game yet, so I don't know why all of a sudden this track is the one that proves it it.

True, forgot about that. But then again he said the same about the possibility of HD Mario remakes.

Even so, I don't really believe either would happen, but that doesn't mean they definitely won't. We could see Sunshine HD or Galaxy 3 or maybe something entirely new. With Nintendo, we just never really know what to expect next.

It's the same concept. Fans look for any hints if they truly want some game/remake/etc.

Just look at the endless hordes of Majora's Mask 3D speculation articles and posts.

The WiiU does not have them. And Mario Sunshine (and Luigi's Mansion) used them to great extent.

A sequel wouldn't be forced to use them.

While this is very true, I meant this as a roadblock for VC releases of those games, not sequels.

I'm not sure but I sure hope so. Unfortunately the fan base for Super Mario Sunshine was divided. You either thought it was one of the best Mario games or one of the worst.

The track is just like every other Mario Kart track; it hints at nothing. After all, there's no Wii Sports Resort on 3DS, and even if Sunshine does appear on Wii U in the future, this track has nothing to do with it.

The reason I think for there not being a Wii Sports Resort on 3DS is in the title, it says "Wii".

I think the better discussion, is why. It was literally Super Mario 64 with a water gun, better graphics, just as big of levels, more gameplay, clearer sound, etc. If you liked Super Mario 64, there was basically no way to dislike Sunshine, IMO.

Also, somehow people hated the GCN controller, but now like it. Alot of things don't make sense.

To be fair when people say that they "want the next Super Mario Galaxy" they mean it in the same way that they say they want the "next Metriod Prime". Those same people haven't necessarily been 'hunting for clues'. I've said that I want the next Galaxy but I haven't once thought that Rosalina being in games means anything. Rosalina is one of the newer characters, of course she's appearing in games now.

Did Bowser Jr's appearance in Galaxy mean that a Sunshine sequel was more likely? Did anyone think that? Of course not! People just concluded that Galaxy was the next "Sunshine" game and that Bowser Jr was now a Mario character.

The 'water gun' was a pretty significant change for Mario platformers too, and completely changed the gameplay mechanics. For a lot of people it didnt 'feel' like the previous Mario games, and I can agree.

I remember buying it day one, playing it for a few hours, and having the game repeatedly freeze on me/have a disc error at the same point. I wasn't really feeling the game anyway, so I took to back to the store I bought it from to do an exchange later that evening. It just so happened a girl I knew from high school was working there and instead of doing an exchange like she was supposed to, she just gave me a refund. Never played the game again.
