They nailed the atmosphere, the gamepad integration is the most comprehensive and inventive use of it we've seen yet, and the game was actually challenging - in that regard it didn't feel like a "modern" game, and it ticked a lot of people off. I was fortunate enough to never encounter a bug, as well.
Big fan of the game. I hate that zombies have been abused so much lately in television and video games but this game was great. It felt like Left 4 Dead if it was made to be a early Resident Evil Game. Scared me pretty good too. Wish it sold better so a sequel could be considered but Ubisoft pretty much stated that it wasn't going to happen.
Just recently picked this up and I would have to say I love every minute of it. A game hasn't made me feel like this while playing in a long time. I've taken to baby steps as big steps just freaks me out. Never have I had the tension while playing a game like this.
As for the melee combat, I feel it's spot on. If we were allowed to swing wildly then it would make it less tense and that would actually hurt the game. I've also one shot meleed a Zombie before from being up higher then it.
Great game and wish I had picked it up much sooner!
I really love this game, but I must admit it's just too heavy for me to bear sometimes lol. It doesn't help that it's one of the few games I really suck in as well, so progress feels so slow, while I can't even kill a zombie with that cricket bat as they just won't go down - if I'm discovered, I'm stuck or dead. That is pretty much it.
The game is awesome, it absolutely nails everything about the apocalyptic zombie atmosphere. It's just very heavy to play after a day's work and during a tired night when everybody has gone sleeping already hahaha
Still one of my top 5 Wii U games ever. Loved every second of it, though the story got convoluted towards the end; the gameplay and horror came through.
I'll never forget Gamespot's review of the game, a big reason why it's metacritic is so low. They complained about the lack of bullets and the game having a claustrophobic atmosphere. As if either of those things are negative aspects in a SURVIVAL HORROR GAME.
As for Ubisoft moaning about it's sales, I don't understand how it couldn't have broken even at the very worst. Remember the games origins, as a alien-invasion thing on old tech. Then the Wii U came in and they re-skinned it. They didn't make it any more shiny, per se, nor filled it full of expensive cut-scenes.
Honestly Ubisoft think every game is a disaster unless it sells 8m copies, hence why they have pretty much ditched Prince of Persia, for instance.
I liked ZombiU but I could understand why critics bashed it. I don't think it was hard at all really. Also the gameplay got stale and a little boring. Pretty much hit zombie in face, hit zombie in face again, hit it again to make it fall down. Now hit it one last time in the back of the head while it is on the ground to kill it.
I love this game i'm sad that it's not going to get a sequel. It's a very underrated gem on the Wiiu that actually uses the gamepad to it's fullest.I just wish Ubisoft one day, would just make a sequel and i don't even care if we get far cry and assassins creed.I don't care for those milked franchises i just want this to come back.I think i'm asking too much.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
Yea, I'm glad this thread is alive again! It really is an awesome game. Reminds me a lot in terms of stuff like Mirror's Edge: a company tried a new idea, and sadly, it didn't do very well in terms of profits. It's too bad we'll probably never see a second installment, because it did a ton of new/cool stuff, and used the gamepad in probably the most essential yet natural way so far.
I'm not much of a fan of horror games so I don't own it, but I did enjoy the demo(and got freaked out a lot haha) and I have enjoyed playing multiplayer with my cousin. I'm thinking of buying it if it goes on sale again, should have bought it last time I think...
