I just beat it a few days ago and I was absolutely amazed with it. It's pretty unpolished, but still great. It's my favorite Wii U game.

If you had not played ZombiU, do it ASAP.

Huge fan of ZombiU here... If I had the nerves for it, I would actively be playing survival mode..

I really don't understand why people (critics) don't like this game. I think it's outstanding.

Critics don't like it because they don't get their hand held enough and it's too hard. I'll admit, the melee is slow and awkward but if you're used to it, it feels fine. I think it's a great game and if you're a fan of classic Survival-Horrors it's a must play. It's probably the best one I played in the last couple gens. It's challenging, unique, and pretty darn creepy in some spots, too. The first encounter with the nurse zombie had me at the edge of my seat. You actually feel threatened when you're in danger because you'll lose all your stuff if you die in a bad spot. It's great.

I don't understand why everyone thinks ZombiU is universally panned. It has a 77 on Metacrtic, which means the reviews are "generally favorable." The big sites may not have liked it, but it earned good reviews overall.

But yeah, it's awesome how dying actually has a punishment.

No way I could pass it up for the low price . Loved the game overall. Didn't understand the negative reviews it got in some places. Sad it didn't do well because the core concept is pretty solid. Just needed some more polish. A sequel probably would have hit a homerun.

Also the part about dying and coming back as a different character felt tacked on at the last minute IMO though i love the idea. If they could take a page from the Walking dead and get us interested in these characters. Maybe have multiple characters at the safehouse you can choose between, but if one dies they are gone. That would also change the dialog and interaction between the characters. You could even have each character be experts at certain things and have different abilities. Fast Runner, Computer hack etc.

I had no real issue with the melee, but would be nice to have multiple blunt weapons. Like Sega's Condemned series. Maybe even a knife to stab zombies in the head. The game has a ton or potential. Too bad Ubisoft will mark it as a failure and abandon the series/ideas.

I think their update to the game actually made the game easier. Before the update ammo was pretty scarce. After it I basically filled up the chest with ammo and had a ton to spare.

I loved ZombiU, one of the few survivor horror games where surviving actually mattered. With more polish, especially in the late game, this game could have been a killer app.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I hope that once and if the Wii U picks up in sales, they will make a Zombi U2. One thing I would change though, like you said, more melee weapon. On top of that, instead of having one monotonous swing at a time, you'd have a stamina bar. Just like with running. You get tired, after a few swings/stabs and it leaves you vulnerable. If you get grabbed while stamina is low, you're done. No saving yourself. Not that you could really save yourself anyway, I hardly EVER did.

I also really like the idea of taking a queue from TWD series. I've never had a chance to play the games, but I've watched Let's Plays and I like your idea of having a bunch of characters from the start and moving between them. Die and they're gone. This could lead to a story with multiple endings or possibly no ending. This would also give you a limited amount of lives, when they're all dead you get an over all score and could possibly unlock something to make your next run smoother.

Another thing I loved is how the game took place in england. I'm just so sick of games being in an american-ish setting I guess. If they were to make another one I'd like to see it take place somewhere like South Korea, Japan, or even Russia. It's hard to hope we'll ever even get a sequel though.

Survival Mode is epic. I realized that even an explosive zombie won't kill you if you have full energy. This means you have to constantly look out for ammo and health kits more than in Normal Mode, but it's still doable.

Praise the Sun, and Mario too.

I said it before. It's a masterpiece. I had so much fun with it, sweating, praying not to get killed again... this is not a game, it is an experience. And I beat it with the not perfect ending and that's it. It just tells me I'm not good enough I guess. Try again. From the beginning. What game does that? That Pre-ending though when he looks at the screens.... gave me goose bumps. The mad circus part took me ages to complete and I suffered in joy.

ZombiU is great. The only issues I had with it after getting used to how you play it was the screen always looked like you were looking through a grimy face-mask even though none of the characters you play as (I've died MANY times) wears one...or even glasses!

The melee combat is slow and I would like a future installment (spiritual or otherwise) to change melee strength based on who you're playing as. I was a cop once and I did the same amount of damage with the cricket bat as a previous significantly less built female.

Other than those two things, the atmosphere is great and the game as a whole is pretty well crafted. Some character models could use more polish, I'll admit, but overall, every time I turn the game on, I get the same feeling Resident Evil (1-4) gives me. A sense of foreboding and fear unlike any other.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I think the screen was from the flashlight's perspective.

Erm... The flashlight's perspective? Zombies bite you in the face if they get their hands on you. I don't think they find the flashlight so alluring it deserves a taste as well.

And even so, is that something that gets revealed later? A flashlight isn't a recording device and there's no real indication the flashlight CAN record video...

He's saying that the flashlight gives the screen a glare meaning it tends to make it look like you're seeing through a mask, as you said. I actually liked that aspect, it added even more atmosphere to the game. It's not like you'd be able to see that great in such dark places in real life, so this made it pretty realistic.

To be fair, ZombiU had quite a few bugs and other technical problems at launch that have since been patched. The game was a launch game and as such was a little rushed, something reviewers will always pan.

I didn't think about the zombie in the face thing.

Easily one of the most satisfying games I have played in the past five years. As soon as I finished it, I restarted a new game. Probably the last time I did that was on the GameCube with RE4.

I never finished it, got distracted by something else. One of these days though I plan to go back and finish it.

I found the single player quite average and have yet to finish it but the multiplayer is amazing. I play it all the time with my family and friends, i really wish they had included to option of more survivors so we didn't have to take turns though.

Not the glare... The actual grime and such around the corners of the screen. If my character's had glasses or a face mask, I could understand, but at the edges of the screen, your character's vision is actually obstructed by grime, gunk, grit, and filth. Love the atmosphere, but some of the darker places were made TOO dark by this piece of detail.

I really liked Zombi U. There were a few spots where I could tell corners were cut, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
