Wow, Wii U has passed the 2 million sales mark in around a month.
Here are the numbers:
North America – 1.09 Million Units
Japan – 560K Units
Europe – 410K Units
Rest of World – 150K Units

Let's not be too optimistic. The Vita sold over a million by it's first international week, but we all know how successful that is now.

I still don't trust VGChartz's guesswork...

Why?

If these numbers are accurate then I think Nintendo is going to be a bit disappointed by them. They would have wanted a bit more than that.

Don't even bother comparing portables and non-portables. Portables by their very nature tend to sell more because in a typical household you have four opportunities to sell rather than just one.

If this is true, wonderful news indeed. More consoles sold means more games likely to come out in a better time frame.

I don't think so... Nintendo wants to sell 5 million by the end of March, right? If this trend keeps going and they keep releasing games people will buy the system to play, they'll reach their 5 million target by the end of February.

I don't see how they will. Lets say averaging out the Wii U released on around the beginning of December - giving it 2 million sales in its first month. Bear in mind this month involved Christmas - why would the Wii U suddenly sell 3 million more in the next month also given that no new major games are being released in this period?

Well also remember more WiiUs will be available since no ones picking them up for the holidays, therefor more people picking them up

@Hokori Um... why would they pick them up now? Generally speaking, system availability really wasn't a problem by the time Christmas came around. It was only a problem at launch.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo was expecting around 3 million by the end of the year, if they're shipping capabilities are any indication. I don't think it's a failure right now, though, since I haven't seen too much advertising for the thing. I'm pretty sure they're waiting for more stuff to come around software-wise before they drop the ad bomb.

I have no idea why Nintendo assumed 5 million copies would be sold before April. I mean, I kinda get it since the game already has some of the biggest games of the past year or 2 but 5 million was very clearly never going to happen that quickly.

I think we'll have to wait and see. Who knows what can happen? But it is fun to speculate... Christmas is indeed over, but maybe sales will remain steady. They basically have three months to sell about 3 million more, right? So can they do 1 million per month? Hrm...

Not a chance. Pretty much nothing outside of gym membership sales have better sales numbers after the holidays.

Yep and seeing how handhelds outsell home consoles.. WiiU will not see a single sale EVER LOL anyway even if they don't make 5 million it'll still be ok
(hasn't outsole the iPhone 4.0 V2.3Deluxe THiNG so it's doomed)

I think the real news we should be focusing on is that the WiiU has already beaten the Xbox's lifetime sales in Japan.
