This may be a suprising one but .....................

.............Until a couple of years ago I didnt realise that the Mario 2 we all know and love was actually a rip off of Doki Doki Panic and that the real Mario 2 was a game we had already played under the name of the lost levels.

I always knew it was the black sheep of the family but didnt realise why until I stumbled across a Video on Youtube by the Irategamer explaining it all.

You're not the only one. There's a lot of stuff out there I did not know until I made use of the internet. Before that, it was just good old magazines. And even that was limited in certain respects. Now we have entire 'encyclopedias' on the web.

It took me a long time to realize that at the beginning of Donkey Kong Country, you should go into the room behind you to get the extra life... I don't know why, but I would always just charge forward and skip it every single time.

For the longest time (and arguably still now) I have not been entirely sure on how to pronounce Samus's name. I've heard some people say say-muhs and others say sah-muhs...

Though my comment doesn't relate to any one game, but a series.

Sam-us. Sam as is Samuel and us as in....us.

But you can call Metroid guy whatever you want, really.

Just for you.

In Metroid Prime 3 one of the other hunters calls her Sammy all the time. Also in Other M during cutscenes they clearly say her name as Sam Us. I've only heard it said Sah Mus in the original Smash bros but that's probably a mistake in translation.

Oh, and I don't think I need to tell the whole story (I'm sure I bored everyone enough with my tale above!), but this same guy played through all of Ocarina of Time and had no idea you could ride Epona.

So I was speaking with my buddy lastnight about this and he informed me that he got to the very end of the game without knowing about Epona, but couldn't get to the last battle with Ganondorf. He was then informed that you use Epona to make the jump and that was the first time he'd heard of that.

So yeah, you do need Epona to finish the game, contrary to what I originally said. My bad!

SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD
Oh, and he defeated Dark Link with the hammer to get the Long Shot.

I didn't know "Zelda: Links awakening" was censored for "racy" content. Apparently there was a hippo doing artistic nudity and a mermaid who lost her bikini top. Who'd have known.

It's not the "black sheep" of Mario games. That's a load of garbage spewed forth by people who didn't grow up with the game. The "real" Mario 2 is nowhere near as good as our Super Mario Bros. 2.

But anyway, I never knew that the area where you got the hammer in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link was actually Spectacle Rock from Zelda I.

It's good because it can still be repackaged and resold today, and people will buy it en masse. Hello most popular category of the Virtual Console.

25 is Pikachu's Pokedex number and 52 is Meowth's. Never realized until now.

Just so you know I actually did grow up with the game so not quite sure what you're getting at.

I never said anything about it being a bad game. By using the term "Black Sheep" I simply meant that its completly differant to all the other Mario Games of that era. Surely thats not difficult for you to understand

Fuzzy

For ages I didn't realize you could fly with the raccoon tail in Super Mario 3. As I didn't bother reading the manual (which was rare back then, as I always read them) I would fill up my P bar, and continue to jump around to unsuccsessfully reach high up places. I lt wasn't till I went round a mates place about 6 months or so later (yes I know it's not years) that I found out.

No wonder I couldn't finish it.

I didn't know that the pipes in the original Super Mario Brothers were "flower pots." According to the manual, which I saw about 10 years ago, that's what they are

New name, same game.
