Topic: The Destiny Thread

So far I'm seeing a mix from the people a mix of enjoyment and disappointment towards Destiny. For me (after watching it at least) I'm not feeling it...

Another big Western game that got overhyped... yet is still gonna sell like crazy.... I see a pattern.... It does still deserve good sales, though.

I'm not attacking Destiny... just teasing with the mixed reactions this game is getting. Lol

It says a lot when this and Watch_dogs are the best selling new IP so far this gen and will be among the best selling titles.

because they're the two most hyped and marketed games of the past couple of years (barring maybe AC3 or anything online involving Blizzard) and are on as many consoles as possible.

I'm not saying they're bad games at all, but even as someone who was VERY excited about Watch Dogs a year ago, it does feel like more examples of the best selling titles being increasingly irrelevant to me. Watch Dogs is probably a cool game but the lies and bs Ubisoft pulled really annoyed me and the game's success based off of that would be the worst thing if I wasn't amused at people being betrayed by their own obsession with technical graphics over gameplay. And Evolve is my pick for the FPS to be excited about, though I am glad Bungie finally got to make a new game post-Halo 2.

I'm a very selfish person that wants the games I care about to be the most popular ones. So basically I would be selfishly furious if it wasn't for Smash Bros.

But there is clearly more and more a disconnect from even the most successful console games and what hardcore gamers care about. Comparing Bioshock Infinite or the Last of Us to the last COD is a good example of that.

I played the game for about 4 hours after I got home. I'm playing a Warlock and i'm on level 6. So far I really like the game and for those wondering it is an MMO no matter what bungie said. I did the first two missions and right when I got to mission three I found two people near me to start playing with in a fireteam, A guy and a girl and we played for two hours together killing monsters and just talking about our jobs and more movie type of stuff. Than jumped in with another crew before playing the crucible.

Man I'm loving this game so far, the crucible multiplayer feels like Halo reach but the lack of small 4V4 means alot of running to get to the action .

I played the beta for Destiny and it's looked interesting, but it looks a little too much like a Borderlands/Planetside concept...
There's a possibility I'll get it. That's probably just me. It still looks really fun. I'm hyped for AW but this still looks amazing. Not sure why people compare it to CoD though.

The game has made $500 million in its first 24 hours, and is the best selling day one digital game to date. Activision with such little output seems to only put out hits.

Huge hype overrules quality sometimes. There's plenty of people who will buy because they caught up in the hype and the intense marketing. And then there are soooo many underrated games that didn't get the hype they deserved and didn't get the sales they deserved.

Or games just aren't marketed or mainstream enough. Wonderful 101 should have been a sure-fit hit with how big superheroes are and Power Rangers which W101 is really based off getting a huge popuarity surge back in the states, but nintendo did not capitalize.

Grumble-grumble...so I rented the PS3 version from Redbox, and while it's everything I said it would be (a solid shooter that doesn't do anything new or unique), I think I underestimated just how fun that could be. It just feels really polished, and it definitely feels like a game that earned its budget. The shooting's solid, the difficulty on Normal is well-balanced, the powers are satisfying to use...while the guns themselves remind me of borderland where it's difficult to distinguish one gun fgrom another (obviously the guns come in classes, but the guns within each class tend to all feel very similar thus far...). Still, gunplay has a nice feel to it. Can't comment much on the story because obviously 3 missions isn't nearly enough to say anything about that, but game does have some atmosphere to it that I like. I think this game might wind up being a keeper, although I'll have to wait until it goes down in price since there's so much coming out in the Fall...

I played the PS4 version with one of my friends today and it was a lot of fun to play.I'll get lots of hours out of Destiny,especially with PvP and DLC to play along with a bunch of missions and stuff to collect.Though I do wish I could play cross-platform with PS3 players so my other friends don't have to spend so much to buy PS4s to play with me.

This review sold me on Destiny.

Looks fun, some reviews seem overly critical though one overlying theme seems to be its somewhat repetitive. I am very interested to see how this 10 year plan unfolds. Will they flesh out the worlds more? Will they open up other parts of curent planets, add new planets? Will they add more classes? Give more customization options? Seems like a very good foundation for them to build on.

So apparently Lizard Squad attacked the Destiny servers today.
