The only system I ever sent in was my Game Gear, back when I was a kid. One of the buttons got stuck I think. I treated it pretty roughly though, since I was little. They gave me a whole new system, which was sweet, since I'd scratched it up pretty badly. I've been using that one for about 11 years though, and it still works perfectly, the little battery sucker.
My Dreamcast stopped reading disks, since it doesn't realize when the lid is closed. That was after it was discontinued, so we bought a used one which started having the same problem in about a week. The solution is you can't close the disk lid all the way. You have to put a book or stack of DVDs on top of it to hold the lid down, but it can't be so heavy it latches. If you're lucky, you'll get through your game. At some point, I need to get another one or have one of my engineer friends tinker with it.
My Genesis's reset button stopped working after about 6 years, but that's no big deal, since you can just turn it off and then back on again.
*This makes it sound like Sega's pretty bad, but honestly, until the Dreamcast their stuff is really durable. Never had a problem with any of my Nintendo consoles so far. I've had every one since the N64 (though that was sold) and GBC.
i'll be able to redownload it from the DSi Shop, of course, but that'd just put fresh copies of everything on my DSi with no save or high score info). :/
Damn I was afraid of that. So games with unique data like Photo Fighter X I cannot shift over to SD to make room for new stuff without wiping my scores? That really really blows - what am I gonna do, there's so much DSiWare and not enough space! Where's the SD card solution for DSi???
@Sean: if you notice, when you attempt to shift certain games over to the SD card (Robot Rescue, for one; i know there are others, though i can't remember which ones off the top of my head), it'll tell you that some of the save data cannot be transferred and ask you if it's still OK to copy it over. out of curiosity (and because i didn't really care about that game), i copied it and then deleted it from my DSi, and then when i re-copied it on to the DSi afterward, all the levels i had previously beaten and unlocked were no longer available for play. i was back at square one. Nintendo really needs to get on top of an SD card solution for the DSi before too many games that act this way are released; i don't like the idea of losing everything i've unlocked like that

Wow, that is a huge problem. You'd think if the saves are a part of the main game file, they'd just copy with them if you moved them onto an SD card. Seems to be an unnecessarily complicated method of making your life harder! Luckily, I don't need to put any of my games onto an SD card yet, but at some point, I'm sure I will.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
The only system I had to send for repairs was a GameCube. And only because I got one of those faulty first generation ones. I sent it to Ninty and got it back in a few weeks. Still have it. Played a lot of games on it. Never had a problem since.
I rather use that console instead of using the Wii to play GCN games. And I will keep doing that until the console finally dies. Whenever that happens.

Yeah, I was not happy when I lost all my progress in Asphalt 4.
@sean: ack, i forgot you had a Japanese XL. without seeing the text, i can't tell what it's asking you, though it does prompt you every time to ask if you're sure you want to copy even if it'll copy just fine. :3

i just got my DSi back today. they did indeed replace it (as they couldn't reproduce the issue at the repair center; naturally when it was out of my hands it worked just fine, lol), but apparently since it was still in working order they were able to transfer everything over to the new system. when i turned it on, all my settings were in place and my games were still there, all in the same order i had them in when i sent it off, and though i couldn't immediately copy over things from the SD card, after re-downloading a couple games i was then able to save over them with my SD card information, thus giving me back my game save info. hooray, Nintendo! :3
they also returned the skin pieces and screen protectors from my old DSi in this bag marked 'unlicensed', lol, with a warning about using unlicensed stuff with my DSi. hahaha, it totally freaked me the hell out when i saw that, because i thought it was saying they hadn't been able to do anything with my DSi because of it, but then i read through the repair forms and saw that wasn't the case at all D:

In late 2008 Microsoft upgraded the boards that were frying all the time. The Red Ring of Death issue isn't as big of a problem nowadays.....or at least until your warranty expires. Paid $100 to fix my 360 last year.
I've heard of the many fails of XBox 360, I wonder why they decided to advertise it as a family console?
(off topic: I know somebody named jay, that plays monster hunter and uses a similar avatar. Is that you Jaymon?)
I've never sent in a console for repairs, never actually heard of such a thing until the whole RROD thing came about.

My 'Cube, way back in the day. Don't remember what the issue was with it, but I think it was something common to early Gamecubes. That was back when I had roommates, and man it sucked going a month without Double Dash.
What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets!
No google can't do that. Google Translate is really only useful if you know how to type the characters, or you're reading a document or webpage you can copy-paste. You'd have to find a program that can recognize text (specifically Asian characters) in the image and convert it to something you can copy and paste. I haven't found a program that will do that on Macs for free or cheap. If you can't copy and paste, you have to look up each word/character individually in a true Japanese-English dictionary, which, with Japanese, requires at least a little bit of knowledge about the building blocks of their complex writing system and, more importantly, is also a huge pain in the butt.
