@TerrapinJess The letter on the folder never bothered me until I got the Hanafuda theme, then I was like, I don't want to cover up this nice little kanji on my folders. What I do now is make the first character of every folder name a space, so try that if you have a folder you don't have a good badge for.

Bakajin commented on Retrospective: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish...:

Eh, never was a fan of any of the Capcom Zeldas. They're playable, but they just don't feel right to me. But particularly with MC, the kinstones seemed like a wasted opportunity, the seashells/figurines were just annoying, and my god it committed the worst sin a Zelda could do: it was short.

I know, I know, first I complain the game wasn't very good, then I complain there wasn't enough of it . . .

Bakajin commented on German Ratings Board Leaks Another World: 20th...:

I still have my Out of This World cartridge and my SNES still works (barely), so I have no excuse for never having beaten this, but maybe getting this again will be the impetus I need to finally see the credits.

Bakajin commented on Feature: The Castlevania That Konami Doesn't W...:

@LDXD I'd say ReBirth was more of a remix than a remake. The level design wasn't based on Castlevania: the Adventure and it had elements from other games, like the keys from Rondo of Blood. But still, a very fun game, and if I'm being honest I have to say it's objectively better than C:tA.

Bakajin commented on Feature: The Castlevania That Konami Doesn't W...:

It depresses me to see all the Castlevania: the Adventure hate in these comments. Am I the only person in the world who loves that game?

I admit that it's not very good, but it's playable. I just beat it again on my 3DS two days ago. I suppose I wouldn't like it very much if it hadn't been my very first CV game back when I was 11.

Bakajin commented on Nintendo Download: 21st November (North America):

I clicked 'nothing for me this week,' since I'm only planning on picking up the physical ALBW right after I get off work tomorrow, but the more I think about, the more I think it might be nice to have a Mega Man on my XL. Probably #3.

Bakajin commented on Shigeru Miyamoto Is A Fan Of Mobile Hit Puzzle...:

And for further nit-picking, Miyamoto-san is not 'arguably' one of the most famous game developers on the face of the planet; he is one of them, period.

If you want to use the A-word, you could say he is arguably the most famous game designer on the planet.

I love this game. I still have an old notebook from back in the day with all my SCIV passwords, and when I get home tonight I just might download this and punch in the password for level 1. (All my passwords are for the second playthrough so this will let me actually have a little bit of challenge from the start.) My old cart still works fine but my SNES, not so much; I can justify this download.

Bakajin commented on Review: Pinball: Revenge of the 'Gator (3DS eS...:

I've still got my cart of this, great game. Definitely a 9 in my book. I'm glad the review mentioned no nudge, but it seemed to excuse it, which I disagree with. I remember reading a review back in the day (in VG&CE I think, if anyone remembers that mag) that called it out for not having nudge. Not that it matters a whole lot to me personally, as I don't nudge often.

Bakajin commented on Feature: Why Zelda: Wind Waker HD Is The Perfe...:

When I was first playing this game a decade ago, amongst my roommates were a young family with a three or four year old. I had a TV in my room, but the GameCube was hooked up in the living room. Boy, did that boy love watching me play this . . . a bit too much. He really identified with Link, and would get quite rambunctious after I'd slayed a few Moblins and ChuChus, and it got to the point where his parents asked me not to do the action sequences while he was watching.

Fair enough, and we still had good times, him watching and me sailing around and doing various non sword-related things. He, too, never seemed to find the sailing boring.

This is the game that finally got me to purchase a Wii, just wish I didn't have to wait until Friday to pick it up. Is it bad that even though I pre-ordered the bundle, I still want to pre-order the physical game so I can nab that nifty Ganondorf figurine?

Bakajin commented on Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This...:

Took advantage of a couple of sales so it'll be mainly Mutant Mudds and Bit.Trip this weekend, but I'll probably squeeze in a little Fire Emblem: Awakening, Street Fighter IV 3D, and/or 999.

And of course, lots of not thinking about how long it's going to be before I can pick up my Wii U Zelda bundle next Saturday morning.

Bakajin commented on Review: Super Mario Bros. (Wii U eShop / NES):

Although I do feel Nintendo should offer this as a free download across all their current platforms. They've made enough money on this title; it'd be a nice gesture of goodwill. If they want to charge for it, they can release enhanced versions.

Bakajin commented on Nintendo Download: 29th August (North America):

I'd be tempted to pick up Wario Land 3, but last winter before I got my 3DS I went on an online spending spree and picked up a bunch of old GB, GBC, and GBA games, all of the Wario Lands amongst them. (Well, I already had WL1, and unfortunately I didn't realize there were two versions of WL2 and I picked up the GBnotC version.)

Bit.Trip SAGA is pretty tempting, though. I've only got BEAT and RUNNER on my Wii.

Bakajin commented on Review: Chain Blaster (3DS eShop):

I'll have to try the demo. Not my favorite genre, but I've enjoyed the odd shmup on occasion.

I'm surprised no-one's complimented the awesome subtitle. 'Blasting makes me feel good,' indeed.

Bakajin commented on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate ...:

I didn't find the demo too impressive. What I'd really want is a 3D Classics version of the original Castlevania; unfortunately I don't think that's very likely.

If they pull a Code of Princess and temporarily put it down to twenty bucks, then I'll probably pick it up. Or better yet maybe I'll run across the cart for ten, fifteen dollars at a used game store.

I think Rockman is far superior to Megaman. Before I ever knew about the music thing, when I first heard he was originally Rockman in Japan it made so much more sense to me than "Mega." To me it made him the ninth themed robot master, where his special power was rock-solid dependability, whereas as "mega" isn't rally a theme, at least not along the same lines as wind or ice or . . . um, Pharaoh.

I never could figure out why stone would be weak against spikes.

Bakajin commented on Review: Super Metroid (Wii U eShop / Super Nin...:

One of the best games of all time. Almost got in a bit of trouble over this back in the day, when the Etecoons were laughing at me at the bottom of the pit and I was getting frustrated not realizing the were trying to teach me something useful, and my parents were yelling for me not realizing I had an SNES and TV in my closet they didn't know about, and eventually I just had to start a new game because I'd saved down that pit that I couldn't get out of.

Now, though, there's very few gaming pleasures that beat scaling a sheer cliff face, because Super Metroid has one of the best wall jumps and you totally only need one wall.

Bakajin commented on Feature: Celebrating Ten Years of The Wind Waker:

So many memories, I think this is definitely my favorite LoZ. I was excited not just for the game, but because if you pre-ordered it you received a free GC disk that had OoT and OoT: Master Quest. I really wanted to play Master Quest, and I was freaking pissed when I got a letter from Nintendo stating that they had received too many pre-orders, and they wouldn't be able to give me that disk. There was a $20 check with the letter by way of apology. I didn't want $20, I wanted that disk! Then I walked into a Pre-Played a couple of days later and there was that disk, just sitting on the shelf, for 19.99. It's still the only game I've ever pre-ordered.

And after all that, I never did play Master Quest all that much. WW took all of my attention. The game was just gorgeous, I found the sailing to be relaxing and fun, and there was just so much to do. I was annoyed that they cut dungeons, it definitely didn't have enough, but I couldn't stay too annoyed at the game. I still haven't collected all the figurines but one of these days I will, wearing my favorite lobster shirt.

Yeah, that's another thing I really love about that game. I get bored with Link wearing nigh-identical costumes in every game, and every chance I have to put him in something else I'll take. When I get the red tunic in OoT I never take it off unless I need the blue tunic, and I really, really wished the magic armor in Twilight Princess only sucked rupees when you got hit, I'd have worn it all the time. That lobster shirt, though, that's some pimpin' threads right there.
