Topic: Have you ever had to send in a system for repairs?

Xbox ate a disk, had to send it in to get it removed.

X360 rrod'd twice, the 2nd time it happened I just chucked it under the stairs. It's still there.

Sent Wii in to solve the dual-layer problem, which it did. Six months later the problem returned. I'm not sending it in as I plan to buy a new drive sometime (basically when I run out of games and wanna play MPT).

Wii, but only because I was stupid and ran a hack to change system region without the HBC installed. It was interesting being only able to run a Japanese Gamecube game on my PAL Wii for a couple of weeks! Thankfully this was before Nintendo added a surcharge for fixing softhacked Wiis and I was only out £70 and had to re-download stuff/rescue my Miis from a Wii friend.

No, was gonna consider it but then the weirdest thing happened.

I posted it in the "Weirdest Thing" thread:

My friend and I were hanging out near the school library on Sports Day. So he sees this bamboo pole near the drain. I convince him not to try lifting it. He ignores me and does it. Next thing I see is my DSi 10 feet into the air, lands on its face, both screens possibly impacted. I just dusted it off, plugged back in my earphones and noticed my L button was working better than it was before. I had to spend 15 minutes searching for my stylus which flew about 2 feet away from the impact zone.

Weird, right?

I did once, in May 2008. I'll go into ridiculous detail for no apparent reason:

I rented a copy of Metroid Prime 3. I enjoyed the game, and the next day around noon, a message suddenly came up saying the Wii had a problem with the disc. I tried a bunch of other discs and they wouldn't work either. Before long, the Wii was sent to Nintendo. The reason for the malfunction: The sticker on the center of the disc was offset to where a small part of the sticker was exposed from the bottom of the disc. When the disc spun around in the Wii, the sticky material came off that sticker and into the disc drive. /end unneeded details

Uh oh. He's back.

My xbox 360(guesstimation) repair timeline
1.summer 06- stopped reading disc
2.winter 06- power cord stopped working
3. summer 07- red ring of death
4.winter 07- disc would not spin anymore
Each time they would just send me a refurbished system. After the last repair was out of warranty I finally had to pay $150 so they would "fix" it. After about a year of letting the last 360 they sent me collect dust I finally just let gamestop pretty much have it.........

Thankfully, no...

The only two consoles I had trouble with were the Xbox 360 and Wii. My first Xbox 360 died from a RROD. But instead of sending it in for repairs, I bought another new Xbox 360 but kept the old hardrive (dumb move on my part). Then after a few months, my second Xbox 360 could not read ANY discs. This time, I sent it in for repairs (but not to Microsoft, but they were professional). It came back good as new and works great right now (but it makes lots of noise running). My Wii worked fine for the most part (except for it not reading SSBB). But then a few months ago, it started having trouble reading also single layer discs also. Sent it in for repairs (but not to Nintendo), and now it works good as new.

Firkraag

no, and i've owned most popular consoles since NES. never had an xbox though, so that might explain it.

There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore

i've had one incident where my wii would have an error when booting disks but nintendo fixed it. I also had a ps2 issue a while back because my cousin opened the disk tray physically. The ps2 then wouldn't open up and I had to pay for repairs. The only other problem I've had is my ds' right sholder button only reads when pressed very hard. I still haven't repaired it

ganondwarf has always been short

Toon_Link

Not really. I always take pretty good care of my systems, except for dropping them a few times.

i'm about to join this club in four-to-ten business days -- i finally called Ninty to have a repair set up for my DSi. it keeps shutting off at random sometimes when i close the lid instead of going into standby mode (i have to be really careful to close it super-gently or else it could shut off without warning). i hope like hell they'll be able to repair it instead of having to replace it entirely because i don't want to lose all my progress in Boxlife, Pictobits, and everything else i've downloaded and unlocked stuff in
seriously i will be hella-sad if i lose my progress in Boxlife; i worked so hard to finish R&D mode D:

Couldn't you always just copy your data onto an SD card?

Just let it happen.

Once, I had that "data corruption error", it happened after an updaate. Checked my warranty and it was out, so I tried turning the system back on again just in case and it was fine. That was over a year ago and no problems.

@percent: DSiWare can't be transferred between systems, and unlike WiiWare saves, DSiWare saves aren't separate files from the games themselves. if they are forced to replace my DSi instead of repairing it, i won't be able to re-copy all my backed up DSiWare from the SD card to the new system (he said i'll be able to redownload it from the DSi Shop, of course, but that'd just put fresh copies of everything on my DSi with no save or high score info). :/
