Cant agree on this, MaxiMillionG. The background music in Xevious isnt a background music at all Its an atmospheric noise which matches pretty fine on a title that old. Dont forget it was released some time back. They had to keep the atmosphere, because it wouldnt be Xevious anymore otherwise. It was 20 years ago this way and now its equal the original with nice 3d-effects added.
I know Xevious and old arcades arent the favourites of everybody, but the same matches on every other title available on every other plattform. I dont like Mario btw...but was impressed by Steel Diver and Pilotwings. Two games which got bad ratings..strange...but I dont blame Mario because other people like it.

If only the music in the trailer was in the actual game. That would have been cool. I still might give the game a chance but I'll wait and see what Nintendolife's review says about it. I guess you can't expect a shooter this old to have alot of bells and whistles like later titles in the genre.

I have played the Nes version but not the arcade. I was never that impressed with it because I really wasn't into shooters until Life Force came along. That's probably the game that got me into this genre.

Thanks for the reply. Don't wanna be a pain, but could you please name me a better shmup title avaialble on the DSiware shop then? I can't remember seeing any and you know yourself how the dsi-shop works so I don't feel like browsing for an hour or more haha.
Lower the 3D-effect a bit, NintyFan I was faced by the same "problems", but its highly addicting to play with max. effects anyway
Someone said earlier in this thread you have to refocus your eyes (or brain) from ground up to the skies regularly to have a clear sight. And it is exactly this way when playing with a higher 3d effect. (This means also you can alter your difficulty level a bit and thats very great because the original couldnt).
Never had such a great gameplay experience before on Xevious. And Im with you: Its better than Excitebike. Seems to me the 3DClassic team gets better and better with each release. Looking forward to see their (my ) next game, but for now: Bombs away onto the damn ground enemies

I have the 3D effect on 2/5 and the 3D slider on about 33% ....I'm amazed how useful the 3D effect is in a 30 year old game! Really awesome. Also think the game is addicting. ^^ Really enjoyed my first 30 minutes so far.
Xevious is very addicting I must say. I've probably played it 3 hours already. So far my best is 1-9 and 103,850 points. Is this one of those games that wraps on and on forever with no real end, because what's with that elapsed time to 9999990 thing in the records unless they expect us to play this game till we max the score counter?
Found the 3D effect amazing in the trailer too and am really tempted to get it but i'm waiting for some more reviews.

Plus online leaderboards.
WHAT ?!?!?!? That was my main complaint for Excitebike (and many other Nintendo titles like the DSi's Game & Watch games before). Now if it would only support StreetPass highscore exchange i'd be totally sold.
Not only is Xevious addicting and fun, but the 3D is beyond excellent. It seriously has the best use of 3D in any game I have played on the 3DS so far.
Despite owning the GBA NES classic version, I was impressed by the trailer and decided to download it. I'm very impressed so far. The 3D effect is much better than Excitebike and actually improves the game. Its probably a little more expensive than I would have liked but it is a good game and a surprisingly impressive demonstration of the 3D effect.
There are no online leaderboards. It just keeps the records locally on your 3DS for you to refer back to. (Excitebike was the same way). Would have been nice to have an online scoreboard but....it is what it is. Great game, overall!
So addicting. I was able to breakthrough the air defense farer than before on my last try. But strong enemy AA took me down too soon again. I start to hate those round-builded AA facilities But I really like to see their bullets traveling up to me on the other hand

Lol, I tried playing with the 3D slider off, and at first I couldn't stop seeing it in 3D — then I realized it was because the forest uses a repeating pattern so it can look 3D even in 2D.

You've got to bomb the stuff on the ground to earn a lot of points. The ones that shoot are worth more, and especially the ones that move. Trouble is you start dying if you focus too much on the ground rather than avoiding getting shot, so in dangerous situations it's better to play it safe than go after the points.
