When I play Xevious in 3D, I experience it as a screensaver for my Nintendo 3DS. Spending 10 minutes looking at it with amazement and never accomplish anything.

When I play Xevious in 2D, I experience it as by far the most intense gaming experience on my 3DS. I take down more stages in 2D than in 3D.

The title screen alone has the best popout I've ever seen on 3DS!
It looks like you can put your finger right through it.

Haven't tried out Nintendogs+cats yet, have you? I got the urge to lay my finger on the screen for that kind of effect too.

Love my 3DS, Fighting games and Zombies. Enuff' said.

Agh 212,990, and I still can't beat 1-9, even though I can't count the number of times I've had the mothership retreating and 1-10 approaching as I died on my last life, so close to warping to 1-10. So far in 1-1 to 1-9 I have found 17 towers and 4 flags — not sure if there are any more in those stages.

Edit: found a 5th flag.

Double edit: finally made it to 1-10 only to promptly die, lol.

Triple edit: 1-14 and 382,280 points! Maybe this game isn't totally impossible.

Quadruple edit: found a 6th flag. Just realized some flags say "L" and increase your score and some say "S" and are for lives. Lol, am I the only one still playing this game?

I finally made it through all the areas: 2-9 and 674,510 points after playing this game for 36 hours total. I found 7 flags, and I feel like there should be 1 more somewhere, but who knows. I think if I keep playing I'll be able to max out the score counter some day.

I love the way they made these old games so challenging that you actually want to play them over and over and master them: it makes you feel like you've actually accomplished something, unlike the empty experience of being able to play through so many games in one playthrough nowadays.

I don't know how you guys do it. I can't even get past the first stage. The bullets are nearly invisible and even if I do see them, I can't seem to get out of the way in time. I haven't gone back to play that game since I got it.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Every time I get hit I get sent all the way back to the beginning. Isn't there a way to survive a hit? I'm tired of replaying the same stage over and over.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Awesome game, second 5/5 3DS eShop rating for me (after OoT 3D), best 3D effects i've seen on the system so far.

To avoid innuendo and/or jokes about Firetruck noises, Nintendo should change WiiU's name to Perfect Nintendo Entertainment System, or PNES for short.

Phew. Made it to 1-4. Of course I was instantly crushed at the boss, but I'm glad I made it past the first level.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Yeah, it is hard to see the bullets sometimes, I guess because this game was designed for a bigger screen originally. Half the time I die, I die without realizing what hit me, which is especially funny because I have cataplexy. Yesterday something hit me and I was so surprised I collapsed for about 5 seconds, and by the time I could pick up my 3DS and lift my head up to start playing again, I just narrowly avoided losing a second life because of it, lol.

After realizing that I'm probably not gonna get past Lv. 1-9
that's when I started focusing on finding the hidden items and I'm grateful that I can still receiving a high score even though I'm getting multiple game over screen on the same exact place.

Edit: I finally mastered Lv. 1-9
but I still got a long way to get to 9,999,999 points

Tips?
*Turn off th 3D. Yes, it looks pretty, but makes it harder to focus.
*Bomb what you can. Ground targets are usually worth the most points, and you get extra lives from points. Likewise, try to find Sol Towers and remember their location, they give 2000 points for uncovering and another 2000 for destroying.
*Learn where the flags are. They give extra lives. Note that their location is not fixed, they will be randomly located within a specific horizontal strip of land.

I picked this up from Club Nintendo. While the 3D effect is amazing in this game, putting it on a handheld screen did not do it any favors. The bullets are too small to see properly, which combined with dying in one hit makes the game way too hard. Half the time I don't even see the shot that kills me. I already have the 3D settings down to the second stage (any lower would lose the benefits that the 3D effect adds to the game), and I can't get anywhere close to beating 1-3 (or any stage without warping past it after dying). The high score system doesn't even matter to me, since I can't even make the list over the default high scores. Also, bonuses that are completely invisible is a pretty poor design. 4/10

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

@BulbasaurusRex I'm right there with you. I can get to 1-2 or 1-3 and then game over. I've played those levels unsuccessfully so many times it has stopped being fun to even try to progress beyond that.

I like the game, but it does feel pretty archaic. No power ups, looping zany music that repeats every few seconds, tough as nails. The 3D effect is pretty great; the only game that 'pops out' more in my experience is Rayman 3D.

Re: iphys and your 36 hours: That's insane! I hope you had the music turned off BTW, these games were designed this hard to encourage you to do better by playing over and over.....so you spent more quarters.

It looks like I haven't played since I got to 39 hours at the end of August, but I'd still like to play this more some day. I had the "music" on the whole time, and it rarely bothered me. I also really liked wearing earbuds connected to my iPod and then wearing headphones from my 3DS over top, so I could listen to real music and get really into it.
