Topic: Will there be a Metroid for 3ds?

I haven't bought a wii u because Metroid has not been announced. I bought a 3ds though because it has star fox.

Does anyone think well get a port (like Donkey Kong country returns) or a new Metroid game on any Nintendo console any time soon?

I think we'll get to see at least one Metroid game on 3DS and on WiiU during their lifetimes. But unless RETRO is working on a Metroid title, I doubt we'll get to see one any time soon.

Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

Would be a great announcement at E3. Even if it was "just" a sidescrolling eShop title.

Eventually, yes. There's no denying Nintendo will develop a new Metroid for the 3DS but with the packed schedule for the next year (literally), I wouldn't expect it until at least August 2014.

An announcement is more likely.

I have been sacrificing virgins to the Metroid AND Nintendo Gods once a week hoping this will happen. I hope they announce it soon, the police around here are getting suspicious.

Seriously, though, Nintendo needs to show Metroid some more love. Reggie said that Metroid is a favorite of his, but they just glossed over the 25th anniversary. Personally, I prefer Metroid over Zelda and Mario. A new Metroid game would be a welcome addition to the 3DS or Wii U, and would be top of my to buy list. Heck, I'd even take a port of Super Metroid or Prime or something.

WiiWare was the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to create and release a 2D Metroid. Heck, Mario and Zelda titles could have been developed on that platform.

It probably wouldn't have been very profitable on WiiWare though. I can't see Nintendo relegating their big budget franchises to an eShop game.

I think it would be a good idea to release smaller games of big franchises to the eShop, as long as it doesn't severely interfere with the development of bigger games. Nintendo could always use it as a testing ground for new ideas for larger games.

It'll happen eventually, I'm sure.

Meanwhile, I'll continue to work my way through Super Metroid, which I got through Club Nintendo.

Nintendo doesn't have the resources or time to support two separate services with games that won't sell.

It has better things to be doing than to be experimenting.

If a boring, repetitive games like Pokemon Rumble can sell, then a short, quality experience like a mini-Metroid title would, regardless of it being part of a pre-existing series. Just look at some of the smaller indie games on XBLA, PSN and Steam. Metroid in any form would sell. If we don't have experimentation, we'll just get stale experiences like the NSMB games without any innovation.

Nintendo is known to innovate tried-and-true formulas with its blockbuster releases. Super Mario Galaxy is a great example of this point.

Metroid will not sell especially with a low budget. Metroid has never and probably will never move consoles. It never sells as well as Mario Kart let alone Legend of Zelda (which also doesn't sell as much as you'd think). Yet you're comparing Pokemon (massively successful unlike Metroid), to a franchise that hosts such a tiny audience.

I'd like to see a full-realized 3D Metroid game. Not the Prime FPS type thing, one more closely based off the originals (though I'd love to see a new Prime title). An eShop 2D title would be nice too.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Probably. I hope they'll do another side-scrolling one. We haven't seen one of those in years.

Isn't that Metroid: Other M (at least from a gameplay perspective)?

Thanks for all the comments! I hope Nintendo will come up with something.

In the meantime I have donkey kong to look forward to!

Why not make a 2D like classic Metroid for 3ds and then a make a new FPS Metroid prime or 3D metroid for Wii U. Come on Nintendo get you Sh*t together.

I am a fan of side-scrollers, so if we see Metroid on the 3DS, I would love to see them go a bit old-school in execution. I think the perfect mix would be to do it like Super Mario 3D Land. Maybe have a "fixed" camera angle, and at times, to show more depth, the camera can pan in certain ways.
