also, as to why it would possibly deter someone from purchasing a 3DS — hyperbole, guys. i just read the plot description on wikipedia, and it seems pretty sacreligious... I can certainly see why it would turn people off. :3

Yeah but yet no one said anything in this regard. They just said they wouldn't buy one with no explanation that way the rest of us can play a guessing game to their reason.

It's not just that the game is sacrilegious, but completely disturbing and self-indulgent in other regards. Edmund McMillen made a game about the darkest and most unnerving aspects of his psyche and decided to subject the world to it. Not exactly a game I want to play.

Also, no one forced anybody to guess at why people don't want it, and yeah obviously its presence on the platform wouldn't have stopped me from buying a 3DS if I hadn't already, but I don't feel an explanation is needed for why I might not want to play it.

But if people didn't sometimes go to their darkest places we wouldn't have Twin peaks and other great stuff.

Even if you'd played it, you still wouldn't be able to comment on it--The Binding of Isaac has no quality. In all seriousness, I've played better stuff at dailyfreegames.com.

Its actually a pretty fun game, Got it cheap at $1.24

You could have bought gum instead and doubled your fun.

@vay: the way i read those comments, the game alone being a reason not to purchase the 3DS speaks more of the game, not the system itself. also, i think both of them already own 3DSes (or at least Oddy, idk about gamesake for sure off the top of my head), so i'm pretty sure they're not saying they're not buying a 3DS because of this game possibly coming out for it, lol.

either way, to the few of you all waiting for explanations — this is what the internet is for. google is your friend, and it turns up all kinds of things, including Wikipedia articles that explain the plot in detail. in terms of the content of this game, it's not hard to put two and two together as to why someone would dislike it so much :3

That's thrilling news and all, but it still doesn't explain how one downloadable title renders an entire console worthless.

Resident Evil Revelations isn't freaky?
And I don't see how a game that has to do with religion wouldn't be allowed on the 3DS. I'm sure there are plenty of religion-associated games on DS, Wii, GCN, etc.

It's actually a fun game, but I'm guessing it will never appear on a Nintendo system. Nintendo is probably keen to avoid the sh*tstorm a certain segment of people would cause over the content of the game. It would be nice if people could be adults and ignore a game they don't like but that's not going to happen.

@shingi: they're allowed to express how they feel about it. if you lean more in the opposite direction, why not post about what you'd be looking forward to in a 3DS release for this game or, if you've played it yourself, what you liked about it in particular? Reading reviews and stuff is one thing, but I like reading opinions from people I know here at NL who have played things too :3

@TBD

I know i'm just commenting on the Hyperbole of not buying a system based on one game for whatever reasons.

I do see how the game can be off putting . I haven't played the Demo in a while but I liked the gameplay.

Nintendo used to have a very strict policy against games with religion, sexual themes, gory violence, etc.

I just read about The Binding of Isaac on Wikipedia... There's no way Nintendo is letting this one pass through.

Binding Issac is quite a fun game IMO, its sorta messed up (okay thats an understatement, this is like, the most messed up games I have ever played.) but if it does come to 3DS I would recommend picking it up if you like rougelikes . It sorta reminds me of the first LoZ game. But what the story and the gross art style might be a major turn off for most normal folks.

I played the demo on Newgrounds. It's... Fun, I guess. I normally don't even notice themes like intense gore, I've just gotten used to it I guess. Even then, with every thing in this game, it was pretty bad. The gameplay itself was not bad. It reminded me, also, of the first Legend of Zelda game. But it's just plain demented. It wasn't really too much for me, but all of the gore and... I don't really know how to describe it, insanity? And I'm not using that in a good way. It didn't literally overwhelm me, but it was a giant turn-off for me.

Again, this coming from someone who normally doesn't even notice it. I went through Left 4 Dead, Borderlands, and some Mortal Kombat games without even noticing any gore until weeks of playing.

Nintendo - Where even first person shooters ooze creativity.
