Sounds like some of you guys should have at least traded emails or something.

Well, here's hoping we get miiverse sometime soon.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

What I hate the most was the fact that I hardly even played games because nursing school takes up most of my time so I mainly used Swapnote to talk to my friends just to see how life's going and so I can tell them about how my life is. It just sucks because these were the kind of friends that actually stuck around even though I didn't play games and they even gave me some "cheer up" swapnotes when the stress of nursing school got to me and I felt like the world was going to collapse on me. These were the kind of friends that made me turn my 3DS on every day just to see what these guys had to say. These friends made me laugh, they picked me up when I was down and even gave me advice. Now there's no reason to turn on my 3DS and I feel sad especially because I won't be able to communicate with my favorite Swapnote pals. For reals SCREW YOU NINTENDO!

Jeez. I have not seen so much overreaction to something since Affleck was cast as Batman.

I feel your pain and fustration. Swapnote was also perfect for me to talk with my friends about life and just about everything. It was a great tool to setup matches and gaming events for 3DS, too. I'm not exactly angry at Nintendo. I'm more upset that Nintendo didn't give a heads up or try another route than just killing Spotpass for the app. I'm REALLY angry that the sickos who ruined this app for everyone. I will never forgive them.

"Overreaction"? Just because YOU didn't use the app to the fullest or embrace everything it has to offer, does not mean that the people who loved Swapnote for everything it offers are "overreacting" to the death of this app. Maybe you just don't understand how imporant Swapnote is because you didn't use it. And hey. Thats fine. Just don't insult the people who love this app with something like "overreaction".
Heck, earlier in this thread... a husband talked about how Swapnote helped him keep in contact with his wife while he was away from home. Mamp talked about his situation and how Swapnote helped brighten his day.
What's my point?
Swapnote was special to many people.

And about Ben Affleck being announced as Batman... LOL would you really want the guy who played as Daredevil (which sucked by the way) play as BATMAN?

I like how you're referring to the people that brought this to Nintendo's concern as sickos when they're probably just immature 13 year old boys.

..... I wasn't the first one in this thread to refer them as sickos but anyone sending messed up stuff to a minor is a sicko in my book. It doesn't matter what age they are. From 13 all the way to 90. Anybody doing that is a sicko. I don't blame Nintendo for taking action but the way they took action is just really saddening. I wouldn't have done what they did.

While I've never really been into Swapnote much, I did occasionally use it to send random things to my friends 3DS. I feel bad for everyone who did use it though. Lets face it, the app is dead without Spotpass. And I'm not going to trust that Nintendo is working on something unless they say so or it will just lead to more anger when nothing happens.

One piece of advice for everyone: use the short message thing you get on your friends list to write your email/facebook/whatever so you can still be contacted.

Well, just is rather yet ANOTHER low blow from Nintendo.... Way to take things into your own hands WITHOUT GIVING US A HEADS UP 1ST!! What other said is true there were already ways of preventing inappropriate features, photos, etc. There was absolutely no reason to disable the SpotPass feature altogether, and it still won't stop this from happpening via StreetPass unless you fix it yourselves 1st. Failed communication has finally reached a new low; Welcome to the wonderful world we call the internet, Nintendo......

Shame spotpass is down on this. It was fun while it lasted.
Also, just to clarify, you can't send random messages to strangers via streetpass. The streetpass feature only works if the person recieving the note is on your friends list.

I can't even remember the last time I Streetpassed a friend from my Friend List... Just wow... Further proof that Swapnote is dead.

Agreed and I feel like Nintendo reacted a tad bit rashly. I bet it was like: They saw the bad stuff, had parents yelling at them about the bad stuff, got nervous and frantic then said, "DANG IT! We gotta kill Swapnote! Stop SPOTPASS NOOOWWWWWW!!!"

I have mixed feelings about this. I am sad because I did like getting notes from Nikki and other people from Nintendo, but I am glad that Nintendo actually notices what people send out. I feel that they should have approached this different though. I understand that you can't have people sending inappropriate images to minors and random people, but there are other ways to combat that. When I play a games online and I get sexually harassed, I know that the company isn't going to do anything for me so I just block them, stop using the mic (being a girl online sometimes sucks) and continue with my game. I think they should update the service so that it stops inappropriate content from being sent and allow the people who didn't abuse to continue to use the service.

Relax guys. The miiverse and flipnote are coming eventually.

Though something bugs me. For those of you with friends from afar...how did you get their code in the first place? I doubt this was by chance... My point is surely there are other means of communication...

I got two Friend Codes from a forum... that relayed Swapnote stationary.
I got one from a person who wanted SwapNote Stationary from the NY Prerelease KH Party.
I got one from my first Zelda Concert.
I got another from my second Zelda concert.

I also have two friends close by that I see weekly and a Club at college that I meet up with twice a week... but those wouldn't count for your question.

Keep in mind that I have NO WAY to contact those 5 people... pretty much EVER AGAIN.

I mean, yeah it's stupid that they just randomly pulled the service like that, but it's not like it was a particularly great service to begin with. I mean, yes it was great but...ugh. How can I phrase this? What I'm trying to say is it's not something to cry about. I mean, some of you guys seem to have been more emotionally invested in this app than you should have been...it was great, but it's not like it's the only way to communicate, you know?

A service that allows you to write messages, send sounds, pictures, and collect free backgrounds to write on is bad? Even when it is COMPLETELY FREE? I think that you haven't used this program much... especially when some of the people commenting were actual Game Creators with a witty response or an advert for the new game...

Sooo... your response to us being upset that the app was pulled due to being misused is saying that we should have misused the app before hand? (Sending email addressess through SwapNote would be sending personal information...)

I think it would be FAR better if Nintendo sent out a message to parents saying everything that is needed to understand how to control the Parental Settings and then also allowing parents to forward any bad messages to Nintendo so that they could redirect it to the police where the system is located. Not to mention finding a way to brick online communications for that Friend Code...
