5. After getting the Spin Attack on top of Death Mountain, the Great Fairy tells you one of her friends is in Hyrule Castle. And even if you didn't know that, if you had a good enough memory the entrance is in plain sight your first time through, so once you got the Bombs you'd want to check it out.
Yeah, but there wasn't any sign that said I could destroy that rock with a bomb! How am I suppose to figure it out?
/s
You used Bomb Flowers to destroy rocks before you even got your own bombs.
Yeah, I was being sarcastic. I actually agree with you that this game is not as vague as some people claim. The puzzles aren't just inside dungeons, that's it.
If you think Ocarina of Time is too hard, then try Twilight Princess. It's very much the same Zelda vein, but it's also very pliable in the combat department and the puzzles are more intuitive and less arcane than OoT's. The story is also loads more developed, interesting, complex, character-driven, well-directed, twist-y...
(Though I would suggest finishing OoT first if you can manage it, as it will give you a greater appreciation for TP.)
A lot of your complaints here are really just an anachronism. Games used to do this bizarre solution stuff a lot than they do now. It wasn't until gaming got more mainstream in the 2000s that they really started making games like Zelda so that anyone could overcome problems.
Compare Mario Bros 3 to New Super Mario Bros. Huge change in difficulty.
That's part of why so many people love Dark Souls. A lot of people feel like gaming started catering to casuals a bit too much over the last decade.
I just got back into playing the Legend of Zelda series. I bought Ocarina of Time 3D last night and got to the Goron area. I had OoT on N64, but I only remember some parts. Anyway, I hope I don't have too much trouble. But I don't really have a problem using a guide if I get stuck.
Literally every single one of your complaints has the same answer.... ANd its been the same answer since the very first game on the nes told you to 'Take the note to the old Woman'.
Talk to NPC's and figure out their clues.
This is why today's games are brain dead and have no mental engagement.
@David_NL: You probably won't get stuck. Most of the issues I noticed when playing through were, how is the player supposed to know that can do that.
It took me way too long to figure out how to get fish into the bottle because when I tried to use the cup, he would swing it at chest height but what wasn't explained was he would scoop the up the fist when you stood over them in a good enough location. I swear I tried a few times and he didn't scoop down. Then I go around trying to figure out something to get fish, was looking for a fiahing pole for way too long. Finally looked up a video guide and saw how he scooped the cup down... tried to figure out to aim the cup but the I guess I finally got in the right location and he scooped down. It was the stragest thing because I swear I did the same exact thing a few times and it didn't work.
So even though you may have forgotten a bit of the game, you will probably remember as you are playing through it lol.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

It's not the hardness that's the issue it's the vagueness and lack of direction the game seems to give. Hard games are my fave, I love Fire Emblem Awakening. And Dark Souls.
Yeah, just using as an example of me liking hard games. I'm going to stop going on about this game though. I enjoyed it just found it flawed in places. I enjoyed A Link Between Worlds, now hopefully will enjoy Wind Waker. I will leave Ocarina down to experience .

Okay, you're definitley fronting now. There is nothing but a lack of direction in Dark Souls, lol.

I'm not quite stuck yet, but I've already run into the game doing things for no reason, and not being able to know where I'm supposed to go, what I'm supposed to do, and who I'm supposed to talk to.
The other Legend of Zelda games I've been playing — Phantom Hourglass and A Link Between Worlds — are much better about this.
So, been playing Wind Waker HD and have been loving it. I've put hours into it and not once have I needed a guide. The reason I've not needed a guide though is this game has given me a good understanding of how Zelda games work, it gives a much more in-depth understanding of the mechanics and also the mind-set you need to be in to "get" the Zelda world.
The sad thing is that if I played this game first then played Ocarina I seriously doubt I would have had a frustrating experience or needed a guide more than once or twice maybe. It's a shame as it feels like I will always have a tainted memory of Ocarina now. On the plus side when I buy Majora's Mask I'm hoping that will be an experience that Ocarina could have been.
So, in summary, I still feel I stand by my statement that Ocarina is not a new-player friendly game but can't really bash it as it's from a different time in game design. I still see it as one fantastic game just wish I played WindWaker beforehand.

Looks like you're running into all the problems I had. The best way I can describe this game really is "a beautiful nightmare".
so far EVERY zelda game i ever played was fristrating, because of the puzzles.
most of them just doesnt make any sense and i always need a walkthrough to know what i am suppose to do to proceed.
thats the reason i really dont like zelda games and i have sworn that i will never buy one again.
Try the spin-off games of final fantasy, the crystal chronicles ones. there are two for the DS (ring of fates and echoes of time). they have great puzzles in my opinion, challenging but not hard to the level of frustration, I personally just orederd echoes of time a few days ago, I dont have my copy anymore and I really want to play that game again

It was the first 3D Zelda, so I guess it's forgiveable, but I don't think it really has aged very well. I might watch a video walkthrough so that I have some insight into how to play the game.
I've heard Wind Waker is cool... I liked the sailing in Phantom Hourglass. I don't know if Majora's Mask is better than Ocarina of Time, but I've heard it's actually harder. I'm not sure why.
Honestly if you spoke to all the NPCs most of the stuff you had complaints about would have been hinted at. The game was pretty straightforward except with non essential items. Also Navi (whom the world complains about ) helps. Finding din's fire was like "oh what's over here? Huh...so that's a thing." OoT is still the easiest zelda game I've ever played. I had WAY more trouble getting masks in MM.
