Topic: Is it worth upgrading to an XL?

I currently have the legend of zelda ocarina of time 3DS but theres the new animal crossing 3DS XL and wanted to know if the xl is worth the upgrade? Ive never personally been able to hold or see one in person, What are some pros and cons? If I do upgrade Ill probably just keep my zelda one on display

I'd say yes. To me the 3D effect is much easier to appreciate on the XL's screen and the larger screen is just better for me. My only complaint about the original 3DS was it's small screen.

It's bigger. That's about it.
Any 3DS accessories (Circle Pad Pro, any cases, etc..) that work with the original's size will need to be replaced.
The speakers are the same.
It's less portable.
The resolution doesn't suffer from the extended size, as a plus.
That Zelda 3DS is pretty valuable / rare, so that's a good reason to upgrade (but still an expensive upgrade for how little extra you get).

The screens are a LOT bigger.

The 3D 'sweet spot' is easier to find/harder to lose.

The buttons are a lot nicer.

It's a lot more ergonomic.

It has longer battery life.

The stylus placement is a lot better (on the side).

I own both versions. Love the XL, it's definitely the best version by far IMO with the exception of being a bit clumsy.

It is definitely worth it in my honest opinion, if you have the extra cash.

Okay I was thinking about upgrading it too because I don't want to mess up my Zelda 3DS, portability isn't a problem and if its more ergonomic I won't need my grip case and I can sell my old circle pad pro to my neighbor and by the XL one, I think I will update to the animal crossing one, only downside is now I'll have to get used to the stylus on the side again, shouldn't be to hard though. And since I want the animal crossing XL it has it preinstalled so if I transfer my old 3DS data will it erase my animal crossing preinstalled game?

I'm sure the eShop accounts are merged, so you will just have to redownload Animal Crossing.

The XL also has physical start/home/select buttons and little bumpers that seem to prevent the original model's screen-scratching issues.

There are a lot of little changes that make a very big overall impression. It is totally worth upgrading to the XL.

I was also thinking of upgrading to an XL (from a Zelda 3DS). But then I realized that a new revision of the 3DS will be released in the future (with hardware improvements like it was with the DSi). I bet. Like the ram will jump from the current 128 to maybe 256 megs. And there might be new exclusive features (possibly in the form of software apps).

^ I don't know why they would Do this because some developers would only be developing for the 3DS with more ram and the older systems couldn't run it, so unless its a new generation of the portable family I don't see it happening

I don't think its worth it as an upgrade, it's definitively the best version of the two, the advantages worth more than the 30 dollar difference between the two models... However, I don't think they are worth 200 if you already have an original version 3DS,

I gave my original Flame Red 3DS to my nephew when I got the XL. Two birds, one stone.

Sorry, but you are in dream land. Nintendo isn't going to release a more powerful version of the 3DS, as it would essentially force consumers to buy a newer version of the system if they want to play certain games.

That said, get the 3DSXL. I bought it without ever touching one before, and I love it. The screen is much nicer and its more comfortable for me to hold. I didn't use my 3DS very much in the the last couple months of owning it, but once I got my XL I now play it at least a few hours a week.

Depends. I really only upgraded for conveniance (due to my original 3DS being busted and a great game coming out at the time), but I wouldn't suggest people go out of their way to replace their 3DS with an XL, the changes aren't that massive that they warrant the upgrade.

Ya, I originally had a Cosmo black 3DS, Then got the Zelda one so at least this switch is a different-ish system, I gave my Cosmo black to my older sister, and I'd just keep my Zelda one on display, I wouldn't upgrade unless it was another limited edition one, which Is why I'm getting the animal crossing bundle

Is it possible to have two 3DS, one 3DS and one 3DS XL?
I mean, the XL sounds appealing and all, but it's too big to carry in your pocket, which I usually do with my current 3DS. Like, have a 3DS for when there's no bag and the XL for other situations?
I dunno, this whole idea might sound a little stupid, but I wanted to be able to switch easily between the two consoles.

I just depends on if you want a bigger 3DS. Personally, I'm happy with the size of the original 3DS. It was the perfect size for me, and I was really unimpressed by the XL when I've gotten to try it. It just depends on what you like better.

Yes. I purchased a 3DS XL this weekend. It is amazing. I would say that the most significant improvement is the screen and the 3D effect. The handheld itself feels of a higher build quality and if you buy the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate bundle you get a BLACK 3DS XL!

I sold my original 3DS six months after launch due to the lack of software and eShop content. But since then the 3DS has gone from strength to strength and with the recent mind-blowingly awesome Nintendo Direct presentations I decided that I wanted to get involved! Needless to say, I now have everything I need for this generation. A Wii U and a 3DS.

@Sekuiya Depends on what you define as "easily". Retail games would be easy to swap, but that's about it. Streetpass data is only on the system that got it, and downloads are only on the system it was originally purchased on.
