Defo worth the upgrade especially if your keeping your 3ds, I upgraded from the 3ds to the 3dsxl last year and was so impressed but sometimes I miss the portability, but if you have both and can transfer save data, Go For IT

3ds Games
MK7
MH3U
Luigis mansion dark moon
PES 2013
Ghost recon shadow wars and will soon have animal crossing and fire emblem
Wii U Games
MH3U
Black ops 2

Resident Evil Revelations.

Is it possible to have two 3DS, one 3DS and one 3DS XL?
I mean, the XL sounds appealing and all, but it's too big to carry in your pocket, which I usually do with my current 3DS. Like, have a 3DS for when there's no bag and the XL for other situations?
I dunno, this whole idea might sound a little stupid, but I wanted to be able to switch easily between the two consoles.

You must have seriously tiny pockets if the 3DS XL won't fit in them. Mine fits in my pockets just fine (although I prefer keeping it in a carrying case when I am out...)

I wouldn't say it's worth an all out upgrade unless you got cash to spare, or can sell off you regular 3DS AFTER transferring to XL.
It's definitely better IMO, but it's the same console games, features, apps wise.
The only improvements are a better battery and bigger screens.
No one should think they HAVE to upgrade from regular to XL.

Not really worth an upgrade. I mean, here in America a 3DS XL is 200 hundred dollars. That's 200 hundred dollars you are giving to nintendo for, essentially, a "bigger" 3DS. The battery life isn't vastly expounded upon....u just get an hour and change more (for 200 dollars). The color schemes, here in North America, all make the 3DS XL look like a Fischer Price toy (the blue or red colors), the AC XL looks like boxer shorts design, and the Pink.....well, I'll just say "no comment" on the Pink color scheme.

And the bigger 3DS screen, I assure you I'm older than 90% of the people who frequent and contribute to this site and I have zero problems with seeing or reading anything on my 3ds.

The cameras are still mega outdated 1.5 mega pixels....versus 8 mega pixels on all droid and iphones.

It all comes down to the simple fact if you want to pay 200 dolllars for a "bigger" 3ds. And please - the 4gb 'bigger' SD card can't justify the cost.

Nothing about the 3DS XL sounds reasonable to me...........especially to me cuz I am an Ambassador who forked over 250 bucks for a black 3ds. Black, still, is the best color. Not sure what's so hard about releaseing a black 3ds xl and putting some decent cameras on the thing. >:[

I dont think I have to upgrade I just want to, Portability isnt an issue only place I take my 3DS to is school and disneyland, so theres always a bag, The main things I'm interested in is, is it more comfortable to hold, and how much better is the 3D effect? I'd be keeping my old one but I just recently gave my older sister my first 3DS so shes going to pay me for it, and I would rather display the zelda 3DS that way I dont accidentally break it somehow

The XL is much more comfortable for a lot of people, including myself, who have big hands. The unit's build just feels nicer as well.

I wouldn't say the 3D is "better" on the XL, but there is a wider 'window,' so to speak. And many 3D games look fantastic on that bigger screen (Star Fox 64 3D and Resident Evil: Revelations are particularly breathtaking).

@SkywardLink98 Yeah, I know, figured as much.
I wish there was a system, like, using the Nintendo Network, that saved all your info in your NN account, and then that would let you choose which 3DS to be active at that moment using streetpass and things like that. A system like that is even more far away than just having the NN in the 3DS.
Oh well, one can always dream.

@Ralizah Well, I never had a XL in my pocket so I can't really be sure of it, but having the normal 3DS already feels big on my pocket, especially when I sit, so I can only imagine that a XL, even if it fit on my pocket, would be a little uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone with a XL or I would ask them to give it a "test-drive". xD

Ya I'm pretty sure I'm upgrading because its more comfortable, "better" 3D, and I want to keep my Zelda 3DS in as good of condition as possible

Okay I was thinking about upgrading it too because I don't want to mess up my Zelda 3DS...

So, are you saying that if your 3DS hadn't been a Zelda-themed one, you wouldn't have bought an XL?
To be honest, I find this reason for upgrading to the XL quite silly. If this is your main reason, DON'T upgrade to an XL.
You know that the Zelda-themed 3DS console, apart from the Zelda-inspired shapes on it, is absolutely the same as every other 3DS console out there, don't you? It's meant to be played.

to be honest not really unless you want to see the 3d better apparently but for me that useless because i'm blind in one eye and can't see the 3d anyway

and before anyone says "then why get a 3ds" i got it for the games not the 3d

I think everyone has forgotten the hysteria of why a bigger 3ds, the 3DSXL, was released.

Bigger screen, non reflective screen, more comfortable size for bigger hands, distinctive 'select, home and start' keys, no green 3d led, better battery life, and no touch screen smudges on the main display.

Still, they did not include two inside cameras, the cameras are still low resolution and there is that glarey blue ON light which is a nuisance.

Why keep it in your pocket anyway? That'll just scratch the screen, eventually. You ought to get a little case to carry it in.

It's a bit longer, but it is very sleek. It doesn't have the toyish, boxy feel of the normal 3DS.

As weird as I feel saying it, it has a very sexy design to it.

Anyhow, the few times I've had to slip it in a pocket, it had no problems. No more problems than my normal 3DS did, anyway.

I need to upgrade to an XL. I've got big hands, and when playing a game and resting my index fingers on the shoulder buttons, I all too often end up accidentally closing the screen.

But as much as i'd like to go out and get one now, I don't want to pick one up only for a sweet bundle to come out like a month later, which would be exactly my luck. I wonder if they'll release a Zelda XL bundle when Link to the Past 2 comes out?

I would certainly like to upgrade to an XL, but a number of factors prevent me from doing so right now. For one thing, I've blown just about all my money on a Wii U (worth every penny though) and need to start stockpiling cash for purposes other then gaming. Another is, like @the_shpydar said, the possible (more like inevitable) bundles in the future. Finally, though I'm not sure if I'll wait that long, but I might bide my time until Black Friday comes around to see if there will be any good deals.

Its worth it. At first I bought a PS3 on 199, but then realised games are expensive so I returned it and bought 3DS XL without even touching one, I was amazed how amazing the difference was, screen are big (3D is better), comfortable to hold, buttons are actually better, no regrets buying an XL .... Buy it if you have a budget, if yu dont, dont buy it.

Edit: I was forced to buy it because my original 3DS was broken ,.... so yeah

So after expressing my reasons for holding off on upgrading this morning, I ended up buying one today.

Ugh. I'm gonna save my money for Animal Crossing or something. I'm don't wanna go through the painful process of finding someone to take my 3DS.

i don't have large hands and i still find the 3ds xl much more comfortable. i do have arthritis, tho, and the regular 3ds gave me terrible cramps and pain.

the screens of the 3ds xl are just so much better! when i bought my grandson a 3ds last christmas, i couldn't believe how tiny those screens are; the xl had blocked at all from my mind, lol.

the reduced glare is a big plus, imo. it's got a much more ergonomic design. whilst i would have appreciated more colour choices, the blue is actually much nicer than it shows in adverts. despite what some say, it does not look like a fisher price toy. i play my xl almost exclusively now and have not regretted upgrading to it for one second. i love it.

I actually saved up for an XL for close to launch, but after playing it extensivley (relative's xl and in store on as many occassions as i could - still do that now) i wouldn't say the image improvent is worth that extra money to pay for it. That's even with trading in my old, well looked after 3ds with the previous GAME UK offer. I used the money saved on the brilliant 3ds eshop.

Definate image improvement, but not anywhere near enough for the price it involves. Don't know if its worth waiting for price drops in the distant-ish futrure.

Also, my kids and i swap around our 3ds due to the eshop downloads, for childrens' hands its a little uncomfortable. Not hugely so, but it is.

Furthermore, we transport several 3ds consoles when we're out and about. Carrying an XL one together with the other ones is a hastle.

Also, for handheld gaming, the "image quality" is superior on ipads, the wii u gamepad and kindle fire hd anyway! If you want "large screen console gaming" and u already have a standard 3ds and ipad, don't do it.
