Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

Watched some youtube videos and figured out a few things (going through Find Mii withdrawal only playing this game every 2 days). A guy used black magic and was able to land 4 of 6 hits, 5 of 6 hits, and 3 of 4 hits with his last 3 heroes, so it looks like it's true that black magic would be a good strategy to use to get in extra hits, and it apparently doesn't cause you to miss too much — probably a good spell to cast early on for all your heroes. He also used green magic to temporarily double the level of his next hero, but when his next hero came in he then selected next hero and it neither gave the temporary boost to the next hero nor remained when that hero came back around eventually, so don't use the green magic unless you actually know you plan to use your next hero right away because it truly is temporary. It's a waste to use the light blue or light green magic if you've already used orange magic, because the ghosts will wake up at the same time you're getting your extra attack anyway. Also, I never noticed but this game is kind of racist: not sure if it's the same for cats, but the light-coloured dogs are all level 1 and the dark-coloured dogs are all level 2, lol.
allright, added everything from this thread. i hope everything up there is going to help you guys 'n gals! but i still need your help to complete this stuff. if you know ANYTHING i have not listed here or find an error please let me know about it right here in this thread! keep up the good work!!
Well, I finally got my first puzzle finished and it's the Legend of Zelda one. The 3D scene animation is really nice. Tons of detail on Link and it makes me hope they can achieve that kind of detail on a new Zelda game for the machine at some point in the future, but I doubt it.
Sad to discover that when you buy puzzle pieces you can get duplicates of what you already have, but I suppose it'd be too easy otherwise. It's also a shame that you only seem to get pieces from partially completed puzzles. To find new puzzles you seem to have to do it through Street Pass, but this may change when you've completed all your current puzzles. Time will tell.

Level 1s can score a critical attack against armoured ghosts. Any sword attack against an armoured ghost scores 1 less HP than normal, so the regular level 1 attacks are 1-1=0 HP, but the critical level 1 attacks score 3-1=2 HP.
Using freeze or sleep early is not really an advantage, as it will only last till one of your heroes performs a sword attack on a given ghost anyway. Using sandstorm or darkness early might be a good strategy though.
Blue magic is also effective against white and armoured ghosts. As far as I can tell it does 3x your hero's level in damage against blood ghosts, 2x against white/armoured ghosts, 1x against shielded ghosts, and 0 against blue ghosts.
Red magic seems to do 3x your hero's level in damage against blue ghosts, 2x against white/armoured ghosts, 1x against shielded ghosts, and 0 against blood ghosts.
Yellow magic doesn't seem to increase the odds of a critical attack. What it does is cause ghosts to rub sand from their eyes instead of scaring you away so that you can get in a few more attacks.
In level 8 the shield is actually a light blue shield.
Currently, I've made it to the Dark Room of Death (2nd Last Level). Fortunately today the first hero I hired wore white, but will I need another white shirted hero for when i return to chip away more of the Armored Demon's HP, or will the room still be lighted?
Watched some more youtube videos and twice I saw people use sandstorm. Their level 2 heroes were able to get in 5 of 7 and 6 of 9 attacks while their level 1 heroes got in 1 of 3 and 2 of 5 attacks, so it seems like level 1 heroes might have more trouble doing sword attacks in sandstorms than level 2. I guess if you're planning to do sword attacks with any of your level 1 heroes you might want to do so before creating a sandstorm.
Another really strange thing I saw on youtube was a guy played Find Mii from the start and got nothing in the first room and cat ears in the second room. I thought people always got the Mario hat before the cat ears, but unless it was a bug, maybe there might be some randomization to what rooms give what hats.
Finally made it through with 140 cats/dogs and 1 streetpass person. I think the Ultimate ghost is actually 150 HP. I was keeping track of my hits to try to know how much damage I had left to do and it wound up taking 151 HP with the last hit being 2 HP, so I'm assuming you need an even 150 HP.
The last few times I used the sandstorm or darkness I did always get more criticals in than usual, so my impression is that they give you a random number of extra attacks, increase your likelihood of critical hits, and increase your likelihood of misses. I really don't notice if either spell is better than the other, but the randomness makes it hard to tell. BTW, you can't use the sandstorm and darkness in combo because the new magic will cancel the old one (not sure why it's supposed to make sense that you can't have a sandstorm in darkness though).
Just a warning: the dark room (the next to last room) will automatically dismiss any hero that shows up before you get a white one without even giving you a chance to switch out, so try to defeat the previous room with a white hero or with a white hero just one or two spots over. Luckily, this only cost me one hero when I got there.
