sometimes my 3DS turns off by itself while it's in sleep mode, which sucks sometimes because it won't count my steps or if I have the rare opportunity of getting a street pass hit, I won't get it

Yes. Had that happen on Saturday missing out on over 3000 steps (based on my son's system which remained on for the day). Happened a couple of times before, too.

And before anyone asks, the battery was pretty much full.

I haven't heard about anyone having that problem. I would call Nintendo tech support while your 3DS is still under warranty. If you register on club nintendo, you can extend that warranty. They should be able to fix your 3DS free of charge.

I've had it happen once so far, but i figured it was a fluke. hopefully it won't happen again.

Mine's done that twice now. I thought that was the black screen of death others have been talking about. Or is the BSOD something different? Both times mine went dead was when I closed the lid during gaming Nintendogs - when I opened it back up to find the screen was black, and I had to shut down.

@Victoria: i think what you're describing is totally different... mine had shut off completely, no power light, no wireless, no nothing. it wasn't any kind of error, it was just off when i know it'd been on, lol.

@tbd:
that's exactly what I'm talking about, it was on the home screen in sleep mode and all of a sudden the next time I check on it, it was completely powered off

That's really strange if the battery is full. Is there anyway the power button can get hit if the device is jostled (is it on the side, or nearly flush with the top screen)?

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

@token girl
it's right next to the start button, which it right at the bottom right of the touch screen

That's never happened to me. O_O Did I just get extremely lucky with my purchase?

You should notify Nintendo about it. Maybe if they get enough emails complaining about it, they'll release an update or something to fix it.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Same here, never had that problem yet although I did get the BSOD once when showing it to my friend. He said "are you sure this wasn't made by Microsoft?"

@Victoria: I had this same problem! With Nintendogs +cats! I left it on all day (8am - 5pm) on pedometer (sleep) mode to get points for walking my dog. When I open it up at 5pm the screen is black even though the blue power light is still on ??? I tried closing and reopening and nothing. It's even pretty slow to respond when I press the power button nothing seems to happen (screen is still black and power light is still on). but I went downstairs to grab the charger and when I got back it was turned off.

that all being said I couldn't say for sure that the battery life was full but I'm pretty sure I had it on the charger last night... will have to test this further .

I don't know. I don't even have a 3DS and don't intend on getting one. almost everyone I know thinks it's a complete rip-off

Only "sleep mode" issue I had was while listening to music...can't tell if the headphones are causing it or not...but it sometimes just randomly pause the music, and other times will start up randomly again before I get a chance to even open it up and see what happens.

I did have mine on sleep mode in the pedometer mode in Nintendogs and cats once where I opened it but the screen was still black. The blue power light was still on.
I think I could hear the music playing still but I don't remember that well. I just hit the home button and the screen came to life showing that I suspended my game. I went back into it and finished up.

Mine has done it again ... all black screen (no message or anything), but I can still hear the game's music running in the background. Nothing I could do except turn it off and back on again.
