Topic: Considering buying 3DS, need advise!

Hi! I think that this is the best place to ask the question i'm about to ask!
I finally decided to buy a Nintendo 3DS, but i'm having trouble deciding which version i shuold i get!

The tag price here where i live (Italy) are this:

-Nintendo 3DS standard: 149,00 €
-Nintendo 3DS XL: 169,00 €
-Nintendo 2DS: 129,00 € ( i think this will be the price when it will be out on Oct 12, because is listed at 129,00 USD and we all know that the conversion rate will be 1->1)

Knowing that i will never use the 3D effect because i had surgery to both eyes when i was young and i can't really see the 3d well (and in everycase it will hurt my eyes in like 10 minutes!), which one should i get?

I don't mind waiting till October and save some money, but the design of the 2DS is ugly as hell!
I would gladly accept suggestions!

Thanks!

if most of the games you want don't use the touchscreen+shoulder buttons control scheme and you don't mind being unable to put the console in your pocket go for the 2DS as you can't see the 3D well, otherwise go for 3DS(XL). any choice will give you the chance to play a lot of great games!

If price isn't much of an issue, then I suggest buying a 3DS XL.
I recently upgraded from a 3DS to an XL, and I can tell you that the larger screen and better buttons are much more of an improvement over the regular 3DS than one would think.

Cringing is really fun.

Hmm... eye trouble? I'd say check out the XL first. I personally don't like the size, but it's very easy to see. And you can turn the 3D off if you don't want to use it. I'd say wait until you can get your hands on an actual 2DS, so you can try it out and see which one you like best.

Well keep in mind that the XL screen is 90% bigger then the 3DS or the 2DS screen. Both 3DS have a slider switch so you can turn off the 3DS effect. I dont use the 3D effect either since I get headaches from 3D so that is how I play with the 3D off.

I personal like the bigger screens of the XL but if cost is an issue and you dont care about the 3D effect you might as well go with the 2DS.

Seriously try demoing one of the 3DS' before assuming you can't experience the 3D. Some people that can't see 3D in any other form have marveled that the 3DS is a miracle. Seriously.

That's a wonderful article. I recommend it. Either way, I recommend the 3DS XL. You get the biggest screen, the most comfortable feel, AND you can always turn off that 3D effect if it's not for you.

I agree with you, the 2DS is ugly, and IMO it looks like it will control weird. I'd recommend going with the standard 3DS to guarantee comfortable playing options (or at least the way the game was designed). Try demoing the 3D at a Gamestop (or the Italian equivalent).

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

I would go with a 3DS XL. You can demo one at a GameStop kiosk. Just my two cents. Heck, pickup the Pokemon XY blue or red XL that hits this month. =)

Thanks for all the quick answers, this is really the most frendly site on the web!

For all of you that have correctly said that i should try first to see my reaction to the 3D effect, i will tell you my story!

I bought a 3DS at launch, i've already played at least 150 hours with the first model! Then when i heard about the price drop, i sold it before the news spread out to lose the less money possible... That was not really nice of me (i felt like i cheated the buyer) but i was really angry with Nintendo (and not in a good financial situation at the time...) for the massive price drop... I have a love/hate relationship with Nintendo since the Wii came out (before that i owned every Nintendo console since the NES!), i respect them a lot, but i don't agree with some of their choices made in the past (recent) years! But i really love some of their franchises (Zelda, Mario Kart, Pokemon on top) and i live of "JRPG", that's why i decided to buy a 3DS again! ( i think it's the best platform when it comes to JRPG alongside with the PS3!)

So the 3DS XL it's really the best option?? it's really an improvment in controls/visuals? i always thought that the biggest screen was synonym of "more pixelated" rendering! Maybe i was totally wrong...

Well, it is more pixellated, but from what I've heard, you either get used to it or don't notice it. I might get one someday, who knows!

Also, I agree that this is a remarkably friendly site.

@Felioth: I didn't notice any pixelated problems with the 3DSXL. Since you already have prior experience with the 3DS than I would suggest the XL for the same reason everyone else does. To me it just feels better, more sturdy, more comfortable. It almost feels that the original 3DS was a prototype.

I went with the 3DS XL because I got a great deal on it. Like you, I NEVER use the 3D effect (gives me this weird eye twitch...no joke). When I first heard the announcement of the 2DS I felt like I'd wasted money, but then I realized I LOVE the folding aspect of the normal 3DS. So if you're like me you can just turn the 3D off and continue to enjoy the better design as long as you don't feel you'll regret the extra cost. The bigger screen is pretty nice too even with the stretched pixels. You might be able to sell your old 3DS online and buy a new 3DS XL for as low as $50 (sorry I don't know how that converts to Euros).

And I understand if you're upset at Nintendo, but if you ever get the chance you should play Rune Factory: Frontier, Xenoblade, Pandora's Tower, and Last Story you should: some of the best JRPGs this last gen on ANY system. The upcoming "X" looks amazing too...especially if you like Mecha...I LOVE Mecha. Haha.

I kinda felt the same way- my 3ds xl literally arrived the day of the announcement. I probably would have just gone with the 3ds, but there is a part of me that's glad I got the XL b/c I'm enjoying so much. I don't use the 3d either. from the feed back i've gotten here, I don't have any regrets.

Well taking your individual needs into account I'd say go for the 3DS XL if you really can't stand the 2DS's ugliness (TBH I can't stand it either but hey it's not meant for me it's meant for little Timmy). The reason for the 3DS XL is just because it has a slightly better in design and well bigger screens and a longer battery life the regular 3DS just wasn't made for long play times or playing on the go unless you play in some SERIOUS short bursts (which is why I upgraded to the XL).

If you have eye problems, I think the largeness of the XL would be better.

The 3DS XL is awesome, if you don't mind to pay a little more I'd recommend it.

The other two models are also pretty good options though. It's all up to you and how much do you want to spend.

go to a store and try out the 3DS and the 3DSXL. then decide which you think is more comfortable.

i personally prefer the normal 3DS.
