Nope. Just a bigger screen and slightly better battery life isn't going to make me go out and buy a 3DS XL. I'm content with my 3DS, so I'll wait for the second redesign.
I'm not upgrading. I dont have very big hands and the size of the 3DS is fine for me. What people need to understand is that this isnt an upgrade that everyone should be getting - it's an ALTERNATIVE. Yes, it also advertises longer battery life - but you can actually put in an ever better battery to your regular 3DS if you really wanted to (just look it up). The design is less shiny and comes down to preference once again. People getting a 3DS for the first time should be making a choice between the two. People who had problems with hand cramps or the small screen size should think about changing to the new 3DS. People who dont fall into either of these catergories dont need to really consider it unless they have plenty of money to spend.
This has always been the pattern Nintendo release their handhelds in. The next iteration will most likely be the upgrade that people should debate buying.
GBA was an upgrade, GBA SP/Micro were alternatives, DS Phat was an upgrade, DS Lite was an alternative, DSi was an upgrade, DSiXL was an alternative, 3DS was an upgrade, 3DSXL is an alternative.
I'd go further back but I think you can see the point I'm making. :3
No interest in paying more money for something that offers the same basic features. Bigger screens are nice, but reduced portability isn't - especially when 3DS is already what I consider to be the biggest possible size to carry around regularly.
If I didn't already own a system it would be tempting and might create a tough choice. But I do own one... so the choice is easy.
I'm not upgrading because I love my purple 3DS, i have two other ones (one's my sons and the other is the one I thought I had lost), i want a wii U and a crystal white Vita and i just don't have the extra money. I'd rather spend that 200 on games for my 3DS. Also I don't like the colors they come in. If they released the silver one here in NA or had a purple one I would. I might get one next year but it's just not happening this year unless they come out with a killer bundle.
Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
I'm sticking with my original 3DS. It was a christmas gift from my Dad, and it's literally the nicest thing I own. I love it. I call him "Threeds" (Short for Three - D.S) My bro came up with the name. I still think of it as my brand new shiny thing, and if I upgraded it wouldn't be my brand new shiny thing anymore.
3DS friend code - 5241 - 2428 - 0543 - Need friends to play MK7, Kid Icarus and Heroes of Ruin. Fave game: Cave Story! x
I've decided to get one because I need a second 3DS while I send my launch model out for repairs.
I was never too convinced by it but I preordered it anyway just in case I decided to get one.
Had the chance to try one yesterday... the big screens were pretty nice and it's impressive how onlookers can actually watch while the 3D effect is turned on, but it's nowhere near as comfortable to hold as the original 3DS, especially for games like Kid Icarus: Uprising.
Having both options available can never hurt though.
Hopefully I can get lucky and win one tomorrow and then spend my preorder on Wii U games instead.
As a fan of the 3DS, I was intrigued by the subtle improvements and the big screen (less subtle!).
Unfortunately I can't justify spending $200 for a system I already own, so I plan to hold out for the Wii U.
I see no reason to get one. A bigger screen is nice of course but I take my 3DS out a lot to get SPs and a far bigger model won't do it for me. I want it nice and compact like the model I have now.

This is correct, except where you said the DSi was an upgrade instead of an alternative. Both it and the DSiXL are still just alternative models in the DS line.

VC added. 3DSWare added. Sound app added. Streetpass & Spotpass added. Backwards compatible with games in the DS line)
Nintendo 3DS XL - (Alternate remodel. Bigger screens than 3DS model)
I'm not getting an XL, now or ever. I always stuck with my original DS, and I'll likely always stick with my original 3DS. Money's too tight, and I'll be lucky to be able to get a Wii U. If I could afford it, I'm happy with my 3DS and don't feel the need to play on a huge screen. Besides, there is the issue of my good ole original being small enough to fit in my pocket (even though I rarely get StreetPasses). Then, there's all the data and games I have on this 3DS.
Something kind of aggravating to me that Nintendo is releasing a bigger size just a year-and-a-half after 3DS' launch.
