Do you guys think this will happen? I mean with the CPP it has all of the same buttons, and a smaller touch screen.

I mean imagine playing Mario Kart Wii U with your 3DS as the controller, or SSB for that matter. You now have an extra Wii U controller, that doubles as a fully fledged gaming system.

That would be nice. The problem is Nintendo made it out that you would use 4 remotes + 1 Wii U remote. I'd rather it be used to emulate online functionality, because odds are if 1 player has the Wii U remote and others have wii remotes than they'll have different control schemes, and possibly even different roles in the game. Like in "Battle Mii" if you had 2 players locally 1 with a 3DS and 1 with a U Controller than you could BOTH fly a ship VS 1 of you driving the (gun?)ship and the other being on foot.

If they can do it then that'd be cool, but we'll just have to wait and see if it's even possible.
Is the 3DS even capable of that type of thing?
And the Wii U has a pretty high resolution touch screen, whereas the 3DS has a decent top screen and a not quite as good bottom screen, so I'd be interesting to see how the Wii U controller's interface transfers over to the 3DS.

It makes sense to think that the 3DS could be used as a Wii U controller, as the controls are similar when using a Circle Pad Pro and the Wii U is just like a big DS, but when I think about it I don't know how the Wii U's screen can transfer to the 3DS's screens well.

There were a couple of Wii games that have already done that with the DS to some extent. Pokemon Battle Revolution is the obvious one and you'd kinda expect them to do it with the DS/3DS again because you have the Pokemans you've worked hard training on your game and you want to keep your strategy private. Guitar Hero 5 had this "roadie battle" minigame thing which played alongside the main game. It was really cool but..... you can do that with the Wii U controller included with the system so you don't really need the extra hardware.

As cool as that sort of "using the screen" stuff is I can see maybe something more like how Animal Crossing had the "suitcase" but making it streetpass capable. That makes more sense because you can't do that without the 3DS while the controller stuffs you can because you already have the controller. When they talk of 3DS <-> Wii U stuffs I think more of cross platform online multiplayer and streetpass features than "I can use it as a controller" stuffs.

I like this idea.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said on June 29th that “it is technically possible” that the company’s 3DS handheld could be used as a controller for the upcoming Wii U console. He added that there are currently several complications with that plan relating to technical factors and marketing the two systems side-by-side.

Iwata already said that would be possible. About CCP, I have my doubts.

It's a possibility, but let's just hope they don't get overlying excited about it and give us another E3 2003.

Of course it's possible, the Wii did it with the DS and there's plenty of bandwidth in our dear old friend 802.11g, as opposed to the DS' 802.11b, to stream video if you wanted to. You might not be able to go online at the same time, which might be the technical issue he's talking about, but it would work. The CPP? Ignoring the fact that next to nobody has it that's not an issue and so it's certainty not the issue. The two questions are whether you'd bother given there's already a better solution bundled with the system and what situations would be worth putting that effort in.

Personally I don't think it being just a controller is a compelling enough reason. It has to be doing something you can't do on the Wii U controller otherwise it's not worth the effort. Those things are reading 3DS/DS games, Streetpass and displaying 3D images. If the software isn't doing or doesn't really need to do any of them then I'm not interested.

I am sure that if they could do that with the GBA and Gamecube than it should be possible with the 3DS and Wii U but with Nintendo who knows.

The CPP will be dead in a year. I don't like the idea of me buying a peripheral because I have to.

The CPP will actually probably thrive for another year or two. I don't know about you, but when Kingdom Hearts or Monster Hunter come out, I don't want to have to use the D-Pad or Touch Screen to rotate the camera. Not to mention the inevitable Metroids, Call of Dutys, and Conduits that will come around.

Hopefully by E3, Nintendo will announce that the Wii U CAN use two to four controllers but only comes PACKAGED with one.

the wiiU would have to stream the game twice (to the wiiU controller and to a 3DS)
the 3DS touchscreen would be too small for most wiiU games i think. there is a reason why the wiiU controller is much bigger than a DS/3DS

i just hope we will see some cool other features where wiiU and 3DS work together.

• Pokemans Battle? Use the 3DS as the controller... but also boring as hell
• RTS? Cool idea and would need multiple screens.... but what to do on the TV... online only?
• Smash Bros and Mario Kart? ..... won't need the tablet

...... everything else is either single player stuffs, pass the controller stuffs or variations on the "one player is god" idea in the Rayman Legends trailer. The interesting thing would be running maybe two smaller pieces of software at once. Maybe you could have the 3DS behave like the Wii U tablet AND your TV when the TV is turned off? Whatever they do I still think we're talking about a very small niche.

I agree of using a 3DS instead of the Wii U pad as for the controller with the Wii U.
When Nintendo revealed the tablet controller I laughed I thought to myself "that's what 3DS is for"
Basically Nintendo had it right the first 2 times with with the GBA connectivity with the Gamecube & the DS connectivity with the Wii.
Nintendo should have focused on having more games utilizing the 3DS connectivity with the Wii U & not bothering devoloping the awfully stupid Wii U Pad.

Then how come the Wii could communicate to more than one DS at a time then or the fact than even the fact that up to 16 DS'S can be hooked up at once.
Not being online is not a a problem in regards to using a 3DS as a controller as the router is just another device it talks to so the Wii U can hook up to both the Router & 1 or more 3DS at the exact same time.

Well this is how I was hoping Smash Bros to work since the Wii U and the 3DS are supposed to cross platform with each other.
