Topic: 3DS needs better online!!!

I think nintendo can completely turn the 3ds around if they would put out a massive update to the 3ds system. You should be able to send your friends messages like you do on the Wii. I also think that when you go into your friends list and they are playing online you should be able to jump into their game. They need to have full game downloads on the 3ds system (like the Xbox Live Games on Demand). With updates they can turn this system around. It is if they actually do it. Adding a second analog stick will only attract so many players. They need to have a better online social system and an overall better online system.

But seriously, yeah, the interface has room for improvement. It's a step up from Wii. Minus messaging...

THE only game that has lots of promise in terms of online is Heroes of Ruin. Hope by then Nintendo has an update so we can message our friends and invite them. I remember it being mentioned that you'd be able to immediately jump into a friend's game through the menu. Waiting for that special update :3

I think Ninty said that there would be some sort of messaging service before the year is out. And you'll be able to jump into a friend's game via the Friend List. I think you can send an invite to other players from your Friend List and you can accept invite and read messages from your friends under Notifications.

I'm not sure if any of these are true, but I swear Nintendo said something along those lines...

Maybe Reggie did in that conference in Jan or Feb when they unveiled the pricing and release for the 3DS in the US and Europe?

Yeah Iwata mentioned this. He even said it'd be a good idea if you could send messages from the 3DS to social networks or mobile phones... I don't know if or when it will be implemented though.

Currently I use the internet explorer on the 3DS to send messages to phones and social networks, I would be great to be able to do it from its own app though and a real messaging system through the Friends list is a must as most of my Friends on there are players of the games I own rather than friends I speak to through other means so aside from the 16 letter limit on the friend menu I have no other way of chatting to them.
...also I have a game that I bought when I had the DSi that connects to social networks like Twitter and Facebook and posts messages from ingame so it isnt difficult to add some kind of functionality like that to the 3DS.

Yes, the 3ds needs a better online; Messaging, DLC, voice chat etc.

I think the 3DS may get DLC eventually. The Wii had DLC, so why not the 3DS? I have 8GB cards in my 3DS and Wii, and they have plenty of blocks available.

I'm STARTING to get really DISGUSTED with all the negative talk about Nintendo lately. I think the online experience with the Nintendo 3DS it totally fine and I have no complaints. Furthermore, we MUST be patient. There are going to be more online features rolled out for the 3DS via firmware updates later this year.

Plus, praise the little 3DS machine that could for what it has done!

This. People need to remember that the PS3 didn't have all it's online features when it launched, neither did the PSP. Those things are added through firmware updates. That's the whole purpose of firmware updates!
