Another video in the interview pretty much confirms a variation of the Tanooki Suit, with which Mario can turn into a statue. This suit has a red scarf to distinguish it from the regular one.
Turns out I owned the game as part of one of those old pirate copies with a bunch of games. Still works great, and I even had a password saved for this very game! Seems like I made it to level 76 back then!
Will definitely buy this when I get a 3DS. Seeing as I like it this much, it wouldn't feel right not paying for it!
Just had an awesome deja vu experience! I'm pretty sure I played and loved this game when I was younger. If only I had an 3DS and could try it again...
I must say that I agree with you. I don't mind selecting levels from a simple line like in this game, but I don't want them to lose the story and presentation. The reason I to this day haven't been able to decide which of the Mario Galaxy games I prefer is that the second one just doesn't feel as much like a complete experience. The story is dumbed down, and everything outside of the actual levels just seems to lack polish.
If I got to decide, the next 3D Mario game would have a hub world like Sunshine's (not like Galaxy's which just felt empty and boring), but all levels are easily accessed from one point. Of course it would have a story like Galaxy's, not simply a short explanation as to why Mario is on another adventure like in the NSMB games, Galaxy 2, and this one.
If I understand correctly, the P-Wing and "Super Tanooki Leaf" is this game's replacement for the Super Guide, either skip the level or play through it while invincible all the way.
However, the level select screens make it seems like there are quite few levels... I really hope for additional hidden worlds, or bonus stages in all worlds.
Single player worked much better than I expected it to, I haven't had the problems with the bosses you mention. My problem with the mode lies in the competitive nature of the level design, it simply doesn't make sense to lone players.
I guess the fun increases with the number of players. Having played the game with only my brother, I would probably have given it an 8, but if I had more players available I could see myself giving it a 9 or even a 10.
No mention of online, guess it's not included then Still, it's great that I'll be able to play it by myself. Best of all; new levels based on older Zelda titles! A worthy celebration of the anniversary in my opinion!
I don't believe Nintendo will be forced to quit releasing consoles in the distant future, I'm pretty sure both 3DS and WiiU will be fine.
That being said however, I do think that it could be a good step to become a third party developer for smartphones. If they convert a studio such as skip Ltd. (Art Style series) or Nintendo Software Technology (Aura Aura climber, Mario vs. DK series) to develop exclusively for smartphones they won't only please investors, but they will also get a foot in a part of the videogame industry that keeps growing. One simply can't look past it, it may be vital to survival in the future.
I think that the developers know best in most cases, and actually taking any larger amount of fan influence would just cost a lot of money and time.
However, I wouldn't mind if Nintendo would let the fans decide which character that appears in the next Mario Kart, for example. That's a detail which doesn't really make any difference to developers, but would please the fans.
What with Apple suing all of their competitors, that probably isn't the best idea...
And if we're only talking about developing games, no thanks. We all know that which smartphone games sells, and it's not the great kind that Nintendo develops.
I do like the fact that they include less exploration, after all that's the reason I prefer the Galaxy games over Super Mario 64 and Sunshine. However, they also seem to include more 2D gameplay, which I'm not sure I think is a good idea. I want my 2D Mario and 3D Mario separate.
In the end though, I don't think these people even are able to make anything but another awesome Mario game.
Might want to mention that the game doesn't have to be controlled by turning the wiimote, classic controller and nunchuck is supported as well. Also, placing 3rd is enough to unlock the next difficulty.
@21 True, but galaxy had taken a step in that direction. Galaxy 2 just went further. Personally, I loved that, but I have understood that a lot of people don't. I guess this piece of news means the two styles will be mixed, which would be the best for everyone.
Why I'm I excited about this? Seriously, the original Wii Play wasn't too good. Yet the Wii Sports Resort style somehow makes it look much more appealing. I'm just hoping more than two players can play this time...
Really? He said that? Why can't developers just acknowledge the good sides of their opponents’ products and keep the rest for themselves? I'm so tired of this kind of slander; they should try to get us to buy their products by convincing us that their product rocks, not saying other products suck.
Nintendo does the same, but I don't think they refer to actual products as often. Mostly it's just "people want more than fancy graphics."
Okay, after a quick search I found the original video on the official site. The graphics looks better there, YouTube definitely made it looking worse than it was. The textures could still be better, but it's long till release, a lot can be improved before then.
"Aimed at children"? Nintendo has been very clear with their recommendation that all players below 6 to turn the 3D off. If anything, the parents are to blame... This is why I hate journalists, they never play fair.
Well, I only need one version of CE:DX, so I'm glad they went with the first one. Still, this is not enough to warrant full price, so I'm hoping for more. Otherwise, no buy.
They do have a point, but I rather pay 50$ for a game that keeps surprising me than 1$ for a game which is the same thing over and over. I can't believe that the new Angry Birds is as successful as the first, it's nothing new at all! (and yes, I have played it)
I really think all those people who have responded has missed the point. Iwata basically says that quality is falling, not necessary that the fun factor is lower. Look at App Store as an example. Firstly there are tons of awful games that the good ones get lost among. But more importantly, look at the best of those games, such as Angry Birds. It's great fun for shorter sessions, but it is nothing compared to the Mario games, as an example. No depth, no real variation, no innovation.
But many people think it's enough, as they only play a little now and then. And that's why the companies that make the great games are having a hard time, even though the superior quality they have problems motivating their prices. You might get more enjoyment for your money with them, but being able to spend almost nothing over and over to try new things is more appalling to the large crowd.
I guess that's a start. They could do so much more though. Sure, I love the instruction booklets, but at least in Europe the boxes are way wider than they would need to be. I have a few imported games, which are at lot smaller. Nintendo should learn from Apple, they have boxes that are just big enough to hold the contents, and not even a bit larger.
This list managed to pin down every game I'm missing! Most importantly Excitebike 64, Pilotwings 64, and the imports. Of course I'd love to see the Peripheral games and Super FX games as well, but I understand if they are a problem to emulate successfully. Then there are the arcade games. Seriously Nintendo, you added a level to the NES DK in the limited edition Red Wii, If your willing to go so far, emulation the arcade games should be no problem!
I'd really like to see a sequel to King of Kong. I kinda feel like I need it to understand who Hank is. Since he entered the scene the whole situation seems different. Everybody hates Mitchel and loves Wiebe, but what about Hank?
@13: Well when you put it that way you do have a point. However, Rock Band really isn't milking the franchise the same way, and most importantly they handle the downloadable content in a great way. To be honest thats the only reason I don't want them to die, I want more new songs. I definitely wont buy an all new game and couldn't care less if they released one, as long as they release more songs.
@Archy: That's a bit too much, don't you think? It's okay to say you don't care, but to say you want the series to die... Some of us happen to enjoy the games you know.
Hopefully I can find it on ebay for an affordable price... Why can't Sweden be part of Nintendo of Europe? I have so many useless stars lying around that I'll never have a use for. Not that NoE has gotten this yet, but they probably will...
Well, they have been far behind the Rock Band games for some time now, so I don't really care. And with the pace that they have released new games, they pretty much dug their own grave...
Looks a bit like the PSN game Joe Danger. Hopefully it will be as good as that one, including the Single Player modes. Joe Danger was great for lone players, and if this is anywhere near it, it's a must buy!

Re: The History of Nintendo Book Gets English Release
Aha, I guess that explains it. Didn't realize that wasn't an official release.
Re: The History of Nintendo Book Gets English Release
What, this is news? I bought it like half a year ago... It even says on the site that it was released 2010/08/25.
That being said, it's a great book. I really recommend it!

Re: Here's the European Release Line-Up for 2012
Where's Rhythm Paradise? If they have decided not to release my most anticipated game I'll be pissed...
EDIT: Probably means it will see a release next year. The Last Story and Pandora's Tower are only there to confirm that they will be released.
Re: Super Mario Land 2 and Metroid II Heading to 3DS Virtual Console
According to the official Swedish Nintendo site, these games are also on the way to Europe:
25 augusti - Gargoyle's Quest (Virtual Console)
15 september - Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge (Virtual Console)
Q4 - BIONIC COMMANDO (Virtual Console)

Re: Super Mario 3DS Combines Galaxy and Mario 64, Out This Year
Meh, I was happy that Galaxy skipped the more open-world gameplay, and had fewer stars in each location. I trust Miyamoto to make a great game though.
Re: Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D's European Box Art is Simply Beautiful
Never was a fan of the North American one, so this makes me happy!
Re: Talking Point: What You Want in a New Nintendo Home Console
Innovation. If Nintendo fails to include features that improves on the Wii (which the 3DS hasn't the way I see it), I will have to wait before buying.
That being said, backward compatibility with Wii and Gamecube games is a must, and so is improved online functionality.

Re: Your First Look at Pandora's Tower is Below These Words
Impossible to know how gameplay will turn out, right now it's difficult to say what makes this game special.
On another note, is it just me, or does the graphics look horrible compared to those of Xenoblade and The Last Story?
