Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom (Switch) - A Bold Blend Of Old & New That Ranks With The Series' Best

tabzer

Though I haven't played it in handheld mode, frame rate being an issue is an exaggeration made by this article. Every other top-down Zelda game has had worse frame rate issues that could stutter combat. This hasn't had such an issue. If you don't like 30FPS maybe you should choose another console. There are more valid complaints about this game. The frame rate is as expected.

Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom (Switch) - A Bold Blend Of Old & New That Ranks With The Series' Best

@Glasso This is an important point that leaves me a bit disappointed.

I think the game is over-hyped because of the fact that we haven't had a top-down version of Zelda for a while.

There is a lot of gameplay, but I'd much rather play any of the others for the first time again.

I don't think the frame rate is really an issue. I think my main gripe is that it feels like dungeons are too simple, and the game can be cheesed often. The story and characters have too many lines and little depth. It's the first Zelda game I don't feel excited about completing.

Re: Random: 'WATA Certified' Pokémon Yellow Apparently Mauled By US Customs

tabzer

@Jiisus the point was that the Pokemon yellow box and broken WATA case are the closest to tangible things we have. The rest is just a story. In terms of journalism, it's just gossip.

Those unfamiliar with WATA, who are interested in this story and why it's even a big deal to someone, would probably be interested in other news items related to them.

Anything that affects the value of WATA things would be relevent to this scenario, because it's what even makes this "news", news, in the first place.

Re: Feature: "I'm Hugely Disappointed We Did Not Make It In Time To Get Into Smash Bros." - Yoko Taro Talks NieR:Automata On Switch

tabzer

@GoshJosh what "intentional design" am I proposing to be skipped? If you are referring to side quests, I'm not proposing to skip them. A lot of games have side quests that become inaccessible after certain parts of the story. In Automata's case, doing all the side quests as they become available can deter enjoyment of the main story. The feeling that they need to be done ASAP is unnecessary. It's flexible based on how people want to play, to a degree.

The story embellishes the gameplay, and vice-versa. Eventually the desire to do subquests will be genuine as opposed to feeling like a chore.

I think it's kind of silly to think that a movie can capture what Automata does if you don't have appreciation for Automata in the first place.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 10.0.3 Is Now Live, Here Are The Patch Notes

tabzer

@Ganner There seems to be a nuance suggesting that you think people have a personal preference when the game basically tells you that you need to carve for mat A (kill) and you need to capture for mat B. It puts randoms at odds with each other by design. Have you ever wanted a weapon/armor/jewel where you could only get the mats by capturing?

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 10.0.3 Is Now Live, Here Are The Patch Notes

tabzer

@Ganner some rewards come from carves while others come from trapping. It's not really a matter of "getting it over with". Many hunts I experience, a trap is played too late and a monster is killed before it can be captured. I'd have to do multiple runs because there is no chance to get the item by killing it. The opposite scenario is true too for other rewards.

Re: PSA: Remember To Update Your Joy-Con, As Well As Your Nintendo Switch

tabzer

@valcoholic Nobody has recommended it. Nobody can verify what it does, which is why the author of the article asked people to mention if they experience any changes in the comments. Nintendo has been having updates ever since their devices were online. Nobody has been prevented from playing games without updating their controller, and if they are, that is when they are spoon fed on how to do so. Consider your family safe, for now.

Re: PSA: Remember To Update Your Joy-Con, As Well As Your Nintendo Switch

@nessisonett I can't tell if you are really studying software engineering or if you are just attending classes so that you can say so, ironically. There used to be a time where consoles and games werent updated at all. Most computer peripherals have firmware. A controller is not an exception. While the dualshock hasn't received any obvious updates to its firmware, the wireless headsets and VR have. Countless controllers, adapters, and other detachable computer devices have all had firmware updates ever since the internet has existed.

Re: Hands On: The Dongii Is A Switch Dock That Fits In Your Pocket, And We Love It

tabzer

@Kalmaro which device do you have? The one you pictured and the one you linked appears to be different. I have a model that is another rebrand of the one you linked (amazon), but yours looks like it has an ethernet port which isn't in the Amazon link. Your powerbank works with it to make it display via HDMI? Mine does not. Our hubs might be quite different after all (if not the power banks)!

I almost agree with @Dreamcast2Turbo. They have carry bags made for the Switch and the dock, which almost seems like a better investment. It's little hard to rationalize near official dock prices for a "mini dock", but I do see the appeal. I just personally can't rationalize it due to already having a (lot) more affordable solution that is almost just as portable.

Re: Hands On: The Dongii Is A Switch Dock That Fits In Your Pocket, And We Love It

tabzer

@Switchforce that's not what I said at all. I already have many quality components whose function I don't need to reduplicate at further expense. What do you mean I am "in the minority" for a device that less than %1 Switch owners have access to? The cost isn't high because of the quality of parts. It's the lack of access to mass production with a steeper profit margin (it was originally $49). Also, I'd have to pay $15 for shipping to Japan. I'm more than willing to wait it out for a more competitive option, even if it never comes.

Re: Hands On: The Dongii Is A Switch Dock That Fits In Your Pocket, And We Love It

tabzer

@SwitchForce The Dongii is just a hub. The one that @Kalmaro linked is nicer with an aluminum finish, cheaper, and offers a second USB port.

The GENKI: Covert Dock is an AIO that includes an actual power supply which is really nice. It's just too pricy, sitting at $60 plus about another $10 for shipping seems to negate the whole convenience of it. Since I already have a Nintendo AC adapter, a ~$25 hub (w/ 2 USB ports) seems to be more practical.

What I would love is if these hubs worked with my PD compatible Anker power bank/adapter.

@Zidentia "The theft is the removal of potential profits generated from the work."

And I agree with that statement. I did not contradict that. In fact, I stated that about 12 hours ago, this morning (my time). The argument of what constitutes as IP theft is case by case, determined by judge/jury. There are cases where copyright infringement is not IP theft, which I also pointed out recently.

Re: Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against ROM Website Offering Nearly 300,000 Switch Downloads

tabzer

@Zidentia I get that's the definition of "piracy". But you should also be able to tell that "copyright infringement" is not "Robbery or other serious acts of violence committed at sea". The term software piracy was intentionally chosen by media providers to convey the idea of theft, to a fault.

"Piracy is theft"

Wrong. Others, and myself, have already demonstrated how this ridiculous blanket statement can be contradicted. By itself, the copying of data (for various reason) is not theft. Heck, even blatant copyright infringement does not necessarily equal theft. Only when someone has been robbed, has there been a theft.

Re: Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against ROM Website Offering Nearly 300,000 Switch Downloads

tabzer

@dleec8 not all forms of copyright infringement is theft. Your rights aren't "stolen" if somebody does something without your permission, using your works.

I cited what the legal definition of theft is.

"Theft is defined as the physical removal of an object that is capable of being stolen without the consent of the owner and with the intention of depriving the owner of it permanently."

Simple stuff. That's why copyright infringement is a thing, because the legal definition of theft does not accurately represent what you are talking about. IP theft is related to the misappropriation of illegal copies for a type of gain which potentially deprives the IP holder. IP theft is a type of copyright infringement but not all copyright infringements are IP theft. ( Dowling v. United States -1985)

Keep calling me a clown though. Your harmless raging is cute.

Re: Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against ROM Website Offering Nearly 300,000 Switch Downloads

tabzer

@dleec8 I'm not contradicting him or arguing with him. He literally spells out how copyright infringement works. I have no problem with what he says. Somehow, you think by throwing a wall of text at someone constitutes as an argument or "spoon-feeding". Get real. I've also stated that your imaginary rule over every single copy of your work is unfounded and not covered in every instance.

Re: Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against ROM Website Offering Nearly 300,000 Switch Downloads

tabzer

@dleec8 "I have been arguing about what constitutes theft: The literal loss of control over something you own all the rights to"

That's not the definition of theft. You also use the word literally so much that it doesn't even serve to function as a word anymore. I've already laid out the clauses of what constitutes as theft. If there is no loss, there is no theft.

"I have the right to every copy of my creative work"

No, you do not. Your imagination is wild. You give away, at least in part, those rights in the manner you agree to distribute. You can''t contradict contracts after you've made them.
Also, there are certain areas of jurisdiction where your rights are either strictly limited or non-existent. Also, the burden falls on you to prove theft occured if you make an accusation.

Re: Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against ROM Website Offering Nearly 300,000 Switch Downloads

tabzer

@dleec8 I haven't said anything that contradicts what the FBI says on that. Maybe you should read into it. It is clear that the article cites the loss of "billions of dollars in revenue and suffer damaged reputations" which makes it clear that a theft has happened. Not all cases of downloading/copying copyrighted material is theft. Conflating infringement with theft is also bad form on your part. It shows you to be unreliable.

Re: Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against ROM Website Offering Nearly 300,000 Switch Downloads

tabzer

@dleec8 "Ask any creator of a valuable intellectual property if they consider the illegal distribution and copy of their work to be theft or not."

That was never my argument. My argument is that for theft to occur, a loss must also occur. You don't seem to understand why you disagree with my statement. Downloading something without permission isn't automatically theft. It can be argued that theft occured if the IP holder feels that there is a loss. But that's often difficult for the IP holder to demonstrate. However, what I've said is technically correct.

Re: Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against ROM Website Offering Nearly 300,000 Switch Downloads

tabzer

@dleec8 "you copy my book word for word and start distributing it, you have literally stolen my work"

I stole from your profits via copyright infringement, but your work is still your work. You literally are misusing "literally". The expression that "I stole your work" maybe a socially acceptable way to express your sentiment, but it is a misnomer nonetheless. Also, in your example I need to copy and distribute for theft to occur (in your eyes). But even then, the actual theft was from your profits, which needs to be proven in order for you to get restitution. (according to what you cited) My correct assessment, that copying something (with or without permission) is not theft, is very basic and unchallenged.

"You don't get it because I'm sure you don't get alot of things in life."

Very classy. I guess I am losing an argument because someone is getting mad.

Re: Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against ROM Website Offering Nearly 300,000 Switch Downloads

tabzer

@dleec8 I cited the legal definition of theft, which proves that copyright infringement is not theft. Heresay is not valuable evidence to support the contrary. In your own cited article, the charges were two counts of criminal copyright infringement, not theft. It is media providers who support the notion that copyright infringement is theft because it is in their capital interest. It's also propaganda which you seem to eat up, and in turn, spew.

Piracy is the unauthorized use or reproduction of another's work.

You can say it's halfway like stealing, maybe. I'd say that it retains the benefits of theft and is missing the bad side of theft (ie getting robbed).
