It can be intensely frustrating when desirable amiibo figures go out of active circulation, but Nintendo has made efforts to solve this issue by putting certain characters back into production – and it seems that Metroid's Dark Samus is the next one to get a reprint.
US retailer Best Buy has a listing for the figure with a release date of October 8th. Pre-orders are open now, and we'd imagine that other stores will put their pre-order pages live in due course. You can pre-order the Dark Samus amiibo on Best Buy here. Other retailers will presumably follow soon.
Dark Samus is an evil clone of the famous bounty hunter who turns up in the three Metroid Prime video games and is also featured in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

I thought it said “repaint” because something is off with that figure
@CheekyZelda define "off"..... it's perfect the way it is. Looks incredible. It's on my shelf being fabulous
@CheekyZelda Personally, I think it's easily one of the best looking amiibo yet, but each to their own, I suppose 😊
Just ordered one on Amazon after reading this article, still widely available in Europe for the most part. Is there a shortage in the US or UK?
You know what needs a reprint? The Samus Returns Amiibo duo. That squishy Metroid sold out in the blink of an eye and I’ve never seen them at retail since.
@NintndoNik spot on! Any other Samus one would be best, dark Samus has been selling cheap for ages, clearly plenty of stock.
why a reprint? here in Italy you can find it anywhere🤔
@CheekyZelda Reprints are usually slightly improved as well.
Readily available in U.K and Europe, so either they are moving stock or just another run for America. Perhaps they are hoping Metroid will gain more traction in the states.
I know this isn't likely inspired by Dread's upcoming release but just normal Smash re-print but please re-release the Samus Returns ones.
That's not the Metroid Amiibo that needs a reprint. Better do the Samus Returns ones.
@Bulborb I'd prefer they do another printing of the Dread Amiibos, considering thats what's coming out soon.
They advertised a "reprint" to generate hype to sell the overstock.
@link3710 The Samus returns Amiibos are way more expensive than the Dread one.
We need more Pikmin Amiibos. Where's Bulborb Amiibo? Probably have to wait for Pikmin 4. Hurry up Miyamoto-san!
Ah yes, reprints. Remember that time when we got those BotW amiibo reprints, and it turned out that they were to promote Age of Calamity?
Dark Samus in Metroid Dread confirmed!!
How about printing more of the actual Dread Amiibos they are all sold out to scalpers and the game isn't even out yet.
@Bulborb But the Samus Returns ones are useless for any current hardware. I'm not saying don't reprint them, but maybe having proper stock for the game that's coming out in a few months should be the priority. Cause if they don't do something, those prices are going to skyrocket at launch.
Good luck to those who want one. Except for scalpers.
This could mean there's some functionality within Metroid Dread using the Dark Samus amiibo. I haven't picked one up yet, but I would like all the Metroid Series amiibo if I'm able to get them.
@I-U Would be great for a hard mode, or for bringing Dark Samus into the world to be another SA-X/E.M.M.I. style threat to avoid…
@I-U Dark Samus is SSB series not Metroid series. There are only 4 Metroid series amiibo, and two of them come out in October of this year. The two that came out in 2017 are wonderful though.
@marandahir Dark Samus is a character from the Metroid Series, that's what I'm referring to. That functionality would be interesting. I was thinking of maybe it being more cosmetic for Samus, and allowing her the option to use the Phazon Beam or Hyper Beam against an E.M.M.I. after interacting with a Central Unit.
Well in samus returns the zero suit samus amiibo unlocked zero mode with the zero suit the SSB amiibo unlocked some items too, in dread the SSB dark samus amiibo could unlock a phazon beam or a dark samus enemy wich could be fun or another item
This is a beauty. I've kept mine safe these last few years. Great to see it get a 2nd chance
Good thing I still have mine.
@Kilamanjaro not really
@Bulborb or reprint the og and zero suit samus ones those are much harder to come by, along with Ridley too
@NintndoNik strange behaviour of the Metroid amiibo, again, as for the dark Samus one, even the Samus return's in Italy are so common
Reprint female Corrin please!
Pre-ordered. Haven’t seen any near me so this is good news.
Before the pandemic this amiibi was widely available. I think I still see Dark Samus (and Richter) at stores here in Mexico. It's one of the easier to get Smash amiibo. I wish I could say that about Banjo-Kazooie and Terry.
How about making enough of the actual Special Edition and the amiibo that go with that game as well so scalpers can be put out of business. We don't all live in our parents basement waiting for pre-orders to go up...
@I-U Gotcha. That could be an interesting usage of the amiibo too.
I got confused because Series has a specific meaning with amiibo.
We've got Samus Aran (Super Smash Bros. Series) and Samus Aran (Metroid Series); there will be a "Dread-Suit" Samus Aran (Metroid Series) to complement those but it's not a replacement for either of the above. And Zero Suit Samus and Dark Samus and Ridley have only appeared in (Super Smash Bros. Series) amiibo while Metroid has only appeared in (Metroid Series) amiibo.
But now I get what you meant, thanks for the clarification.
This could imply functionality in dread. I got my amiibo when it came out, so I'm interested to see what happens when you scan it in. I think this is a situation similar to the champion amiibo when age of calamity released. So they better do the same with the dread amiibo, because I couldn't find any.
