@grimbldoo The sales aren't irrelevant, though. They happen occasionally, which makes the "full retail price" (Which actually decreases over time, instead of staying at the initial price indefinitely) a whole different beast. I can't wait out software for a price drop on a nintendo system. I can wait out Steam.
Although this article seems to think that all of the US is hooked up with wonderful broadband over every inch... It's not. There are areas in the country with spotty, crappy coverage. More rural areas here are likely in the same state as Canada's more rural areas.
I suspect somebody who buys consoles 6 years into their lifespan is not the audience Nintendo is expecting to buy the Wii U at launch. I don't know why someone like SkywardLink, who has implied they buy systems when they've got 6 years of games on the market, would have enough interest in the Wii U to directly compare it to the PS3...
The most recent spec sheets I've seen all seem to show the Wii U as a successor to this generation, rather than a stop gap measure for a company that is (not) hemorrhaging money. The specs are VERY clearly above and beyond this generation, which people who build their own machines know.
More likely, Nintendo is going for the generational head start that gave the PS2 and Xbox360 commanding leads against their direct competitors for years (that the 360 has since lost).
Is the storage really that big a deal? You can get a 32 gig flash drive for what? $10? $5? I'll probably base my decision on color, though. A hard decision.
This is a natural consequence of the game industry using dark magic to maintain the same MSRP for over a decade. I thank my lucky stars publishers never decided that initial price points should be increased every 2 years.
For me, the best thing about bethesda games is how modable they are. I'm sure I'm not the only person who'd rather pay less for a better version on PC.
I agree with the age rating system as much because it helps inform blundering parents as I know that the alternative is much worse. Australia has only recently gotten a mature rating and before that, anything that would normally fall under that category was banned for everyone.
Having a ratings system is incredibly preferable to being stuck with a video games are only for children mentality.
Although I agree that more games should be made without using guns as a "crutch" (they do tend to force a certain style of gameplay, afterall), I also think that books are one of the harder mediums for parents to supervise. Sure, most parents can read any book aimed at their children in less than half a day, but they are the least restricted media (to their benefit).
If the typical flagging inappropriate messages mk_II mentioned is combined with the idea in the article of a 30 minute delay only being for users with parental controls on, the whole system could probably be effectively moderated and appropriate for everyone.
Of course, harsh penalties could also be the answer, as temporary bans that are tied to specific systems are hard to circumvent, and permanent bans almost act as a fiscal penalty (Although they may hurt wii U resale values). This wouldn't be too intolerable as long as users could have unmoderated chat in smaller groups.
I really loved this game, but number this as one of the few I managed to lose in my younger years. Although I'd beaten the main storyline, I had yet to collect the rainbow drops. When (If?) this comes to US vc, it's an instadownload and play-through to right my foolish err.
A sensor strip on the UPad? I bet adding two tiny infrared lights to the front is cheap enough to be cost effective. This definitely sounds cool, though. If only I liked golf.
It would be okay, but I fully suspect games in the nintendo online shop will never go on sale, just like on the wii and ds. And PS3 and 360, from what I hear. Closed platforms and digital distribution haven't really proven themselves in that respect.
Since they mentioned shaders, I'm inclined to believe the developers, since I was under the impression that nintendo's consoles didn't use conventional shaders. If a developer uses them as a measure of a console's "power", then nintendo consoles will come out behind even with incredibly powerful hardware, since the developer is probably talking about the power of the readily available graphics tools instead of what they can crank out with years and years of development experience.
@Ulala The US has been stabilizing, and has been steadily improving. It would have been more believable that the US economy is dragging them down if they said this even a year ago. More likely, Sega means either "Yen strong, Western currencies losing value", or "nobody is buying our games, but it's not our fault".
ALGEBRAIC! I love the show's pacing and zany adventure plots. If the game manages to do the same, it will be worth playing. Bonus points for Wayforward development.
To be fair, the advance wars series doesn't really emphasize individual units' personalities or have leveling. However, I do agree that it would be more natural to add those elements to advance wars than to move fire emblem into a modern setting.
This game also lets you use your wings to slow your fall, right? I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned in the review, since it alters the platforming significantly from the first.
That's right everyone, the wii U runs hot with its MASSIVE power supply. It needs this much power because it has so much more memory and processor speed, even with future tech, it needs twice as much power as the 360.
I'll probably buy for steam this time around, unless it makes it to 3ds. Runner was so good I've been fighting the urge to buy it on as many platforms as possible, and steam sales really don't help my "not waste money" attempts.
Nintendo should think about providing sales and giving devs/publishers more control over game pricing. The bs about making sure games don't devalue doesn't help their online store.
My god, finally. I was hoping the Wii U announcement would get microsoft and sony to get their thumbs out of their butts. Although some people keep claiming that graphics can't get much better, textures and draw distance could be vastly improved with some more ram, and the meshes for plant life is still best described as weird and not very life like. The increased processor speed will also get things like hair and leaves and tree branches to move in the wind a lot better, too. Consoles are holding back PC gaming way more than people realize.
I'd also be happy to see at least one console switch to proprietary flash media for games. The technology will be cost effective by the end of the new systems life spans...
Started the game two days ago, have run through it several times already (I needed the winter cheevo, so I was motivated). It's great, fun to play, pays homage to zelda in its level designs, and plays like a shooter. It would be great if it made it to virtual console.
From what I understood, the "childhood" branch is supposed to be where Link failed to defeat ganon, as majora's mask implied he went wandering aimlessly afterwards and may have forgotten to return to save hyrule. So this 3 splits thing is, hopefully, a mistranslation.

@DrDaisy
Congratulations. You've found 1 KB. 1 KB that is not located on the hard drive.
Re: Watch: First US Wii U Advert Appears
Seems fine, as a commercial for the system. I'd rather see the commercials for the games, when those come out.
Re: n-Space Not Happy With Heroes Of Ruin Sales Figures
Every picture and video I've seen of the game just looks bland and uninspired. Nothing really stood out.
So I also passed it over.

Pretty sad when they can't even bother to face the player's monster towards the enemy. This is something nintendo got correct the first damn time.
