Re: Wario Land 3

I think I skipped this one back in the day because I didn't enjoy the "wario is invincible" mechanic in the previous entry. However, if the level design is as good as the previous two entries, I still might want to go back and pick it up.

Re: Waiting For Wii U To Drop In Price? Not Going To Happen, Says Nintendo

steamhare

Since they're removing the basic model, they'll probably drop the deluxe model to $300. Since it will replace the basic model, it won't be a price cut. Then they'll start putting out $350 bundles with the new games coming out. They'll still have both price points, so it won't be a price cut, but the value will have changed.

Re: Nintendo Accused Of Infringing Trademark With Wii U WaraWara Plaza

steamhare

I don't know what the Japanese standards are, but this passes the American "idiot in a hurry" standard for trademark infringement. I doubt even an idiot in a hurry would go to nintendo's warawara plaza thinking that it was the restaurant, or vice versa. And if there is an issue, the patent office is the one at fault for issuing two trademarks.

@Fusion14
My overall assumption is that nintendo would continue the series with the same quality they usually put into their flagship games, and thus would not suck. The tournaments would be online, and reach everyone who owns the game and has their wii u online. That would reach an absurd amount of people, and if just 10,000 of these people participated each week in 7 tournament regions for a year, paying $5 each, nintendo would receive $18,200,000. Prizes would probably be exclusive nintendo merchandise, like gold wii remotes, or a 3DS with a custom design, or a real cup trophy, or nintendo character figures. Stuff that would be desirable to a fan, but wouldn't really cause nintendo to go broke.
And you'll have to explain why people who don't participate in the tournament would be alienated. Again, I'm assuming these releases would be just as full featured as previous entries in the series.

@Fusion14
Huh? How did you get that from what I said?
I'm suggesting that the whole of super smash and mario kart be free. The usual play styles like versus, classic, and adventure mode would be fully available whenever you'd like to play it, along with general online play against other users.

At the same time, nintendo would have tournaments every week people could pay to participate in, with special rewards for the winner depending on playing level and amount of people in the tournament.

You wouldn't be blocked out from the game.

Free Mario Kart 8, with weekly buy-in tournaments?
Or better yet, Smash?

Nintendo could divide tournaments based on rank, offer special rewards to winners, and have occasional super tournaments.

And they could use the regular payments to support online services for as long as people play.

Re: Mutant Mudds Developer Muses on Wii U Design

When I first saw the wii U, one of my first thoughts was that it looks too similar to the wii. I love the simple design, but it makes it harder to distinguish as a new product for those that don't know anything about it.

Re: Epic Games Rules Out Unreal Engine 4 For Wii U

I'd be far more concerned if Epic hadn't strongly implied that the engine is hard to work with and they'll charge companies through the nose to use it. They've stated themselves that costs of using the engine will be several times higher, and that their 5 minute demos take months to build (and that full games would take much, much longer). If what they say is true, no dev in their right mind will use the engine.

Re: Wii U Advert Banned In The UK

Although this might not pass the idiot in a hurry test, I don't think it misleads consumers. The pad is shown playing games that use both the TV and the gamepad for different activities in the commercial, which any idiot who isn't in a hurry would realize couldn't be played entirely off the gamepad.
