Re: Interview: Curve Studios' Jonathan "Bidds" Biddle

Great Interview. Glad to hear from multiple sources how great Nintendo is when it comes to working with indie developers.

There is still some stuff I think they need to work on but I think the eshop is a great first step and has a lot coming down the line/.

Re: Pachter: "I think Nintendo becomes completely irrelevant"

Why are people taking his COD comment as being literal. He means that the playerbase on the Wii U is lower than what will be on the PS3/360. The Wii U version doesn't really have anything that makes it a big selling point compared to the last gen (360/PS3) versions like the 360 had with Call of Duty 2. Wiimote controls would be enough for me but lacking content from the other versions (DLC support, nuketown). The same thing could be said about franchises like madden and fifa.

Re: Wii Mini Is Official And Has No Online Connectivity

This seems useless awesome design aside. Most people would pick this up as a cheap netflix/hulu box that also plays wii and retro games. Seems like only an idiot not knowing their market would take out online of something that's competing onprice of a roku or apple TV, even the rumored xbox TV, or a $200 360.

Damn it nintendo. This being honestly cheap could have bolstered faltering wii sales abit as the wii u is out of stock.

Re: THQ Enters Forebearance Agreement With Creditors

@diim

Not at all.

1. What if the ported game flops. Working on a new product would probably increase the devlopment of the port. (Its good in the long run but THq doesn't have that luxary)

2. THq is only publishing the game not developing. The dev wants to keep costs down incase thq dies. They can't start working on a expensive port if their unsure.

Re: THQ Adds Clarity To The Wii U "Horrible, Slow CPU" Comments

@Tsuchiya

Again THQ's problems were due in part to mangement as well as an over inflated marketing budget, and making an xbox/playstation version of the Udraw. If you look at the majority of their games they are mostly AA budget wise. Problem is no one buys their products.

Its funny how you say price is king when Microsoft is rumored to working on a low priced ($99-$200) xbox set top product alongside the big expensive 720. This would allow nintendo to be outgunned on both ends of the spectrum. Not only but microsoft has been working with retailer on a subsized version of its console and have been testing it out with the xbox 360 since the summer. This would allow them to still out class the Wii U but also be able to compete or even undercut on price.

Also dev costs won't inflate as much as people think for a few reasons. The biggest is that until probably late 2014 the majority of games will be cross generational. Games like watchdogs and Star Wars 1313 are going to have a Durango/Orbis varient which will be very highend and close to the trailers for both games, there will also be last gen varients giving them a bigger marketshare not having to worry about a potential flop. Another big factor of why costs will stay the same are because during the middle and end of this gen most pubs started development of engines that could be used in many different types of games (Anvil, frostbite, lumionous) that sharing of resources will keep costs down as will middleware like Unreal and cryengine.

Re: 2K Boss Has No Doubts That Wii U Will Be Successful

shingi_70

I doubt theWii U or any other console will probably ever hit the amount of numbers the Wii did.

Nintendo impresses everyone but for what ever reason never enough to put substantial development resources behind its platforms.

Only developer who has brought their A game so far has been Ubisoft.

Re: The Wii U CPU Is "Horrible" According To Metro: Last Light Developer

shingi_70

I'll still get a wii u because of nintendo and eshop games. However with the crappy cpu and slow ram speeds I can easily see the wii U getting shafted like the wii. So far a lot of launch day ports have little too no care taken with them, these same devs are skipping the wii U as far as the bulk of games hitting early next year (wii u us still going to have some high profile stuff with Pikmin,wonderful 101, and monster hunter) and with wii U having troubles with last gen games I'm going to hate to see what happens when the other next gen systems launch .

Wii U is stuck in this weird place do to nintendo having to skip on certain hardware to make it more affordable. (Still taking a loss however) I'm expecting a lot of software for a while to be cross-generation and the wii U will probably end up dissapointingly getting the last gen version as well.

@skjia

Yep with Xbox live you get 512MB of cloud storage (windows phone 8 and windows 8 games don't have a cap), while I think PS+ gives you a either the same amount or 1GB currently.

Good for moving around saves, making room, and making sure they don't get deleted by mistake.

Basic stuff right is having an account system that actually works. Also I agree that xbox coming late to the broswer game is bad. (Though they did it with good reason)

Speaking of browsers or TV internet experiences which are better than the wii u.

Apple TV and ipad airplay
Google TV and android devices
Xbox ie with windows phone and windows 8
A stand alone tablet.

But as far as convience the wii U browser is still pretty good and that's what the most important thing is.
