This is not a deal-breaker for me (since I own a Wii U anyway), and call me a "spoiled" or "entitled" gamer (I've also been gaming for 25 years now FYI), but I do have a few legitimate gripes about this one.
1) I've put in a lot of time and effort into these games, especially in games that require more than one hour in one setting to beat. Nintendo needs to make some kind of update that would not require you to start all over again.
2) Some of you are saying that you will not be "transferring" the games to the Wii U, and that's fine, but assuming that you will continue to play with Nintendo consoles on 2018 and beyond, you will have no choice but to make those transfers. There is no GameCube backwards compatibility on the Wii U, so what makes you think that your game saves on the Wii will be safe from the post-Wii U console?
3) Some of you are defending this practice from the way Sony (or whoever) does it. Yes, Nintendo is its own company. Yes, Nintendo has every right to do its business as it sees fit. BUT, if Sony (for example) is providing a better service, then I have the right to call out on Nintendo and say "hey, they're actually doing this better than you." Isn't that what competitive consoles do? Listen to customer feedback and study the competition?
4) There are suspension modes for a reason, and I'm actually thankful for that. I'm sorry, but the "golden age" of sitting-on-your-behinds-for-2-to-3-hours-straight-just-to-beat-a-game-in-one-setting-because-there-are-no-save-states is over. Just because some games originally didn’t have save states, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t exist. This is the flip side of "GET A LIFE!"
@tgru You're not wrong if it's your preference, but it shouldn't be an issue now since the machines we have are much more advance. I've played the original Double Dragon on the original arcades and the XBLA, and I still hate the slowdowns when there are too many enemies. Just because there were flaws via hardware limitations on the original versions doesn't mean they should still exist.
But I am open to having a version in which you can switch either the 50Hz (for you) or the 60Hz (for me and I suspect most people).
@Randomname19 Darth Vader and the Joker do appear in video games so that's a moot point. Now, whether or not they deserve to be on the list is a different issue.
I already own Punch Out for the Wii VC, but think about this: if I were to skip this one out, I would have to pay $1 to transfer the game to the Wii U.
The only problem I have with download-only games is that I can't rent them. Even if digital becomes rental, it would take FOREVER to download a retail game. It doesn't have to be either/or. I'm for digital downloads, but let us also have the option of renting physical copies as well.
This is just dumb on Nintendo's part. Microsoft, Sony, and Steam have been doing this for years now, and Nintendo still can't get that part right. I'm sorry, I don't care if they're "new to the game", it's 2013, this is just inexcusable.
Bless Warren Spector's heart, but after two disappointing installments, you'd think that he would either a) believe that it is time to abandon the franchise altogether or at least b) give it a long hiatus.
The BC functionality may be a nice bonus, but it won't last. Given that the later Wii U models will not have this feature, Nintendo needs to also start releasing Wii Games for the VC as well.
As critical as I am to Nintendo, the Wii (up until now) was the only true backwards compatible system of the consoles; it played ALL GameCube games. The Xbox 360 was an overall disaster for the original Xbox games, and the PS3, you have to buy a certain model to play certain games.
So why after all these years, after the Mario Bros. movie, he decided to say that? It's ironic because I was at the Wii U Experience (I had fun, so thanks guys at Nintendo Life) in Los Angeles, and one of the questions for some prizes was "What is Mario's last name?" and of course the answer was "Mario." So, I guess that can't be one of those questions anymore.
Furthermore, what about the Koopa Kids? I don't get it. They were never Bowser's kids? So what's this "King Dad" I kept hearing from the TV show?
@doctor_doak Yeah, I was a little perplexed by the title too, until I read the reasoning and the fact that I can buy a bigger storage USB Drive (which I probably would've anyway) and buy a "core" game for $60. So I guess the basic bundle is better after all.
It will drop, just like the Nintendo 3DS when it first came out for $250. When the more powerful PS Vita was released for the same price, Nintendo had to drop the price because it knew that selling a handheld console with less hardware power with the same price was ludicrous. When the Xbox 720 and PS4 system come out, Nintendo will have no choice but to cut the price of not just the system but the games as well.
The Wii was also $250 when it was first released... and it was also a generation behind. Hmmm...... I just hope the third-party games are better this time around.
@TrueWiiMaster I totally agree with you on why they didn't give digital a chance, although I have a theory behind this: too many publications, be that of magazines or Internet.
I used to subscribe to Nintendo Power, but the reason why I don't is because of the Internet, and plus the magazines take up way too much physical room. I would have given the digital versions a chance, but even then, I'm not sure if it's worth the money when you can get most tips for free on the Internet.
If the story is true (at the time of this writing, the editors have removed their tweets), then it's sad to see such a well known publication go, but Nintendo Power has just become a victim of modern technology, for better or worse.
Gosh, so many more to name here. Licensing issues aside, I would've put
1. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Turtles in Time
3. RoboCop
4. Vs. Super Mario Bros.
5. Mortal Kombat I and II
6. P.O.W.
7. Operation Wolf
8. Final Fight
9. Double Dragon
10. Kung Fu Master
11. Mario Bros.
12. Donkey Kong II (ok, not made by Nintendo, but they need to take notice)
The reason why there is no second circle pad is because it would change the whole dynamic of the 3DS, to the point it which it would make it seem like it's a new console. We definitely don't want that at this moment.
It's kinda pointless when the competitors are now selling these games for digital downloads, and for a good reason too. Just release the GC games as DL games. There is absolutely no need to give them an HD remastered version.
With the GameCube completely phased out now (the latest Wiis are no longer backwards compatible), it might make sense to buy the VC version of the game.
@Dreadjaws The looks is from the New 52. That's the default look now. But I'm sure there will be classic costumes as well.
@Wamtu The idea behind the game is what the trailer says: "What if our greatest heroes is our greatest threat?" So this is sort of an alternate reality in the DC Universe. They're not trying to give DC a new default direction here.
Considering that they will make 3DS systems that will no longer play DS cartridge games, just like the Wii discontinued the GC-compatability systems, this is a no-brainer. Besides, consoles are also making the current-gen system games downloadable as well.

Re: Review: Balloon Fight (Wii U eShop / NES)
I would give it a 7 because it's 30 cents right now.. Otherwise, yeah, it's overpriced.

21. The "Readers?" You mean the Reapers?
What about the Illusive Man or even the Catalyst for making you go through all this crap?
Re: Talking Point: The Virtual Console's PAL Problem
NTSC has blast processing. The PAL doesn't. So what does blast processing do?
Re: Balloon Fight On Wii U Reportedly Running At 50Hz in Europe
I was wondering what the big fuss is all about, but after seeing this footage... yep, I can see why people are pissed.

Re: Review: Balloon Fight (Wii Virtual Console / NES)
At least it's 30 cents (for the time being).
Re: Nintendo Download: 24th January 2013 (North America)
@Rawk_Hawk
1) Probably not.
2) I think that would now be for the Wii U Virtual Console.

I never bought Super Metroid. Now I have NO excuse in not getting it. Ditto for F-Zero.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's New Year Resolutions
#4 Include the GBA, DS, and GameCube Games in the Virtual Console/eShop library
#5 Bring 3rd party classic gaming into eShop: Doom (the "XBLA" version), Final Fight (arcade, with online co-op), etc.
#6 More demos, and make them unlimited.
#7 Bring back DKC into the VC.

That was a completely different era.
Re: Nintendo: Phones And Tablets Aren't Games Devices
Never underestimate your competition. Yes, as long as those are games playing in those devices, it's competition. Bite your tongue, Nintendo.

My body is ready for Wii U because I've been gaming with Nintendo since 1987. (Adult Pass)
Re: More Tantalising Wii U Pricing Rumours Emerge Online

Not a big deal really. It's not as if THQ won't make WWE '14 for the Wii U... at least highly unlikely.
