Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Batman: Vengeance (GBA)

ryanrybot

Neither are good but, from an artists perspective, the EU one is absolute trash.
NA: Strong stance. Easily recognizable as Batman.
EU: Batman's silhouette is unreadable. The cape hides far too much. It's so dark you can't tell what's going on. You can see his chest and jaw, but the rest is a mess of dark shapes that you can't what's going where.

Re: It's "A Bit Sad" That Switch Isn't More Powerful, Says THQ Nordic

@HSuzumiyaVI
Yes, textures take up RAM which can be scaled down to take up less memory. My argument wasn't about textures but all the other systems in place which slower systems have a hard time processing on the CPU, not the GPU.

Ok, you modded a 12 year old engine, which no games on the Switch uses. Good? So then you should know that a lot of game engines don't support Vulkan, but instead would have to run on OpenGL, which makes none of what you said relevant.

Admittedly, I am only about 15 hours into BotW, so there may be more AI intensive enemies later in the game, but I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe that the AI is amazing. There's maybe only a handful of states that I have seen. There never seems to be any flanking, or running from bombs even after I've blown them up a few times, or archers getting into better positions. In regular combat, they just run at me until they die. Plus I have never seen more than half a dozen enemies at a time. With a simple state machine, that wouldn't be to CPU extensive at all. I could be wrong though. Like i said, I am not very far into the game, relatively.

I like how you just pulled a bunch of number out of thin air for the Switch specs. Also none of the processors you mentioned are GPUs but are a SOC; all of which are fast mobile chips, but are slow compared to what console and PC developers are used to working with in terms of available processing power.
In the end, I'm sorry i can't take any of what you said seriously, even though you tried really hard to sound like you know what you are talking about.

Ummm.... To everyone saying that they need to "git gud" at programming, or that graphics don't matter, you have it so wrong.

It's not about resolution or flashy graphics, it's about processing power. Games nowadays are so complicated and need complex AI and animations, sometimes syncing up with servers from around the world all the while running a physics simulation for dozens, if not hundreds of objects. It's all SOOO much more than just a few visual effects. It takes tremendous processing power to make all that happen, and sorry, I love the Switch but it just isn't capable.

Re: Rumour: Russian Nintendo Store Leaks Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle

Off the top of my head, here's some issues I see with the box.
-Game case image hanging off the edge of the box.
-Controller poorly cut out on front of box, especially the grip closest to game box art.
-Edge around Switch logo blurred needlessly. Nintendo would not be so careless with branding.
-Different coloured joycons on front and side.
-Old background still showing around Switch logo. Why? Mind you this could be poor design, but my guess is that it's bad photoshopping.

Not to say a bundle couldn't be coming, but i highly doubt this is it.

Ah, yes. Diortem is from another community; WiiUDaily I think. She's pretty much always like this. Just don't feed the troll and hopefully she'll get bored and leave.
As a Metroid fan since the series started, this game looks good and I would certainly pick it up if I had a 3DS.

Re: Xbox Co-Creator Confirms That Microsoft Discussed a Partnership With Nintendo

ryanrybot

@IceClimbers I think that would be a good thing. Microsoft do well in NA and EU, and Nintendo do well in Japan. They compliment each other so well. Microsoft's networking and hardware could do wonders for Nintendo, and Nintendo's innovative software could spark Microsoft's creativity.
I really don't see any negatives to the two making a deal, even in the present.

Re: Ori and the Blind Forest Director Criticises Secrecy and Lack of Access to NX Devkits

His tone aside he's absolutely right.
"At this point, they need devs WAAAAAAAY more than the devs need them. Steam, X1, PS4, etc. are all super nice environments in which developers can thrive...".
I love Nintendo dearly, but this statement rings very true. If they want their console to have the best possible start, they need to keep developers in the loop. Even small developers.
The attitude at Nintendo seems to have not changed since the Gamecube days, where the console was purposefully built to be difficult to program for, so only the "best developers" can make anything for it. The thought that small developers can't ever bring something worthwhile to their system is very frustrating. Well, look what happens... Nintendo's marketshare is shrinking, and rival consoles are thriving.

Re: Talking Point: The Fragility of Buying Download Games

ryanrybot

Wow. I cannot believe that there are so many die-hard physical media fanatics here.
You may think you own the physical copy, but you don't. You only own the media it's printed on. Just like I own my hard drive. All the other laws in the EULA are the same. You cannot publish, copy, rent, reverse engineer, etc. with the physical media just as you can't with the digital copy. You have never owned the software, but since you are only getting the software with a digital download they need to specify that it's just a license. I need to buy my own physical media to store it on... the HDD. If you owned the software you should be able to do whatever you want to it, regardless of what media it's bits are stored on, but you can't.
I had NEVER experienced not being able to play while my internet was out. I have only played on PC (steam) and Nintendo consoles, so I can't speak for the other companies, but only if the game is an online mp game will you not be able to play. ...but the same is true of a physical copy.
If I lose my games due to HDD failure, I just call Nintendo and they fix me right up. If I scratch the disc, I have to buy the game again.
I even saw someone comment on how Nintendo should go back to cartridge based games. You must be heavily medicated. Cartridges are way too expensive to make and don't hold very much data, which is part of the reason 3rd parties left Nintendo during the N64 days.
In the article they even mentioned that if you delete your game that isn't being sold anymore, it's gone forever. No kidding. If you destroy your super rare Nintendo World Championship cartridge, guess what... You can't just go to the store and pick up another one. You gotta take care not to lose your copy, no matter what format the information is stored on.

Anyway, I'm going to leave it there as it's probably sounding hostile, which was not my intent. Just trying to clear up some misconceptions people have not just about digital games, but physical ones as well.
