Re: Gallery: Mario Characters' Movie Vs. Game Designs - Which Do You Prefer?

@NintendoByNature Same. I am surprised by the results. With a few exceptions (Toad's teeth just look weird) almost all movie designs seem superior to me. I think they made an incredible work on Mario, making him at the same time more expressive, less doll-like, but also somewhat cuter. Also, I never, ever liked the super weird skin unibrow and smooth upper lip that Donkey Kong has. The movie design seems much more pleasant to me.

@ImmaWario Same. I always felt Guybrush was a sort of dumb/naive but pretty good looking, baby-faced guy (as shown in MI and MI2). It felt a bit weird from MI3 on, where they went with a traditionally "funny looking" character design. I don't know, I feel like Guybrush as a handsome clueless guy (who can't grow a beard) is just funnier as a concept. It would also explain Elaine's attraction to him.

Re: Sonic's Co-Creator Yuji Naka Made A New Game, And You Can Play It Right Now

I think the game is pretty good. At certain points it reminded me of Puzzle Bubble. It's not perfect, and it's monetized way too aggressively. However, it has a pretty solid, fun gameplay loop and it shows a humility from Naka that I find really, really remarkable. I know many veteran game designers who never bothered trying to learn to make a game on their own, let alone later in their career. Their ego would just never allow that. So, this shows a lot of character and passion.

Re: Papa's Quiz Brings Eight-Player Family-Friendly Trivia To Switch Today

Seems nice. Unfortunately it's only in English. English is not my family's first language and the kids are not fluent enough to play a quiz game in a foreign language. Too bad. Seems like a weird choice not to localize such a game: games aimed at children and/or a casual audience lose a lot of sales by not being localized.

@SenseiDje I work as a game designer and this attitude is just plain wrong. These kinds of games are wonderful and open new possibilities to people who would have never learned to program traditionally. Game design and programming are two very different things.

Also, the limitations of an engine matter waaay less than you think. A good game designer can make a good game even just with pen and paper (or Flash, or Unreal, or Game Maker, or Dreams etc.). And the best way to learn how to make games is making as many games as possible. So every creative game helps.
