Re: E3 2014: Nintendo Won't Bring Live Twitch Streaming to Wii U as it Lacks 'Fun'

mullen

I know some players may not care about that, but in fact that's very popular, and a better way to advertise a video game if that game is really good (much better than TV commercial or demo video because you can watch some real fans play the real game, actually SM3DW and Pikmin 3 failed to attracted me by all types of commercial or review until I saw gameplay in this way). I know it's not a feature that everyone want to use: more than 99% players don't want to board cast their gameplay. However, I think some players really want to watch others play, especially if they play really well or their commentary is really fun. (and I like the niconico style live)
I'm not saying that WiiU needs such function which may sacrifice the performance: the gamers who want to board cast may already bought the necessary device for them. I just want to say don't simply say it's not fun: that's actually fun.

Re: Video: This Tomodachi Life TV Spot Will Surely Make Ryan And Andy Global Stars

mullen

These commercials are bad because they give 2 wrong hints: 1. the game is only for young children, and 2. you should only put your real life friend in the game. Those are totally wrong, and limits both the potential players and the potential play ways.
I still remember that Japanese Nintendo Direct told a interesting love story by this game. Also their other TV commercials for this game are humorous. However, probably, that's the culture difference.

Re: Club Nintendo Distributing Tomodachi Life Demo Codes to Select Platinum Members

mullen

Already played the game for more than 1 year, so I don't really care about it (Whatever, I'm far from platinum this year). However, I think for a new game, it's important to let all players know that, instead of just randomly choose few of top players. I mean, what's the purpose of this type of lottery?
Or, maybe, based on the feedback of this small scale test, another updated demo will be available later?

Re: Photos With Mario Available for Free Now in North American eShop

mullen

I'm waiting for the following Animal Crossing and Pikmin versions. I already bought the 6 Japanese version Mario cards for $180 (which only worth $120 as eShop points, but I can't find any other cheaper way to buy those cards in US at that time). Now $10 for 3 cards is much cheaper for me, and I don't think I can easily spend another $120 for Japanese eShop titles. (But on the other hand, if that's $30 eShop creadit for 3 cards, I'll be in trouble again, because I already have more than $100 creadit in US eShop. I still prefer physical game cards except games like tomodachi life or animal crossing).

Re: Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Footage Revealed

mullen

Seeing the comments, I laughed immediately. I mean, this is just how Pokemon Get TV works, and it shows its program in thus way for years. Anyone who is familiar with this program should expect no more than what just happened. Well, maybe next time, when posting the news about upcoming Pokemon Get TV, explain the program more and lower audience expectation.

Re: Talking Point: What We Want To See From Nintendo's Next Handheld

mullen

I like what you said at the beginning: to prove that smartphones and tablets are not implicitly designed for gaming. However, I don't like your other ideas, because almost all of them just say Nintendo should follow smartphone and tablet's way: no 3D, no game card, mobile chipset, multi touch, cheaper games, social network. None of these ideas are something new and exciting, and all of them are just from smartphones and tablets. If Nintendo just follow these way, they just make another PSV, and then doomed. I don't mean Nintendo should do none of them, but 1), what Nintendo needs to think about for next hardware should be far beyond than those. Those should be just some ignorable details compared to the real big ideas. 2), should not simply copy ideas from smartphones and tablets: 3D is still amazing, instead of dropping that, why don't make it even amazing, e.g., from all viewpoints, or even holography; physical card means too much for real gamers, and also means that it's still possible to play your old ds/3ds games on new generation, it can be less important, but don't remove them (at least during the first half of next generation); multi touch is good, but if the price is that you can no longer use an accurate pen, it harms: I have several games that accurate pen input is required and that's the reason these games are interesting compared to smartphone ones; mobile chipset seems to be powerful, but nNidia and AMD may abondon Nintendo for a larger profits at any time and Nintendo will be in huge trouble (it's very unlikely that Nintendo can get a strong partnership with an U.S. company).
I hope that there can be some unexpected huge breakthrough for the next generation. However, if everything is just follow the smartphone's rule, there's no doubt that next generation will be a big failure simply because you throw away all the unique points and can't catch up with smartphone's yearly based pace.

Re: Nintendo Serves Up New Videos For Kirby, NES Remix 2, Tomodachi Life and Mario Golf

mullen

@DinoFett The prize is ... basically saying, no prize. You can get a Ninja suit after a Ninja dream, or get a balloon after the dropping dream, but that's not anything valuable (the only thing you can do with a balloon is to sell it for few money). Tomodachi Life is basically not a game, at least not a game for any purpose or goal. It's just an interactive show to muse the player and share with friends, a type of game to let you relax and laugh.
I love this game, but I can't say it for everyone. I can understand NOA because this localization must be the most challenge one in its history. But on the other hand, it's also like a gamble to make players have too high anticipation. I mean, unless players really play it for a extended length of time (and maybe discuss with friends in real life), it may be difficult to find the joy of the game. The first title of this serious (DS version) actually had a extremely low rating and selling number at the beginning, but after few weeks, players eventually thought that game was really good, and introduced the game to their friends. Eventually, it became one of the best selling games.
Btw, for this game, unless you can make sure you keep clearing all tags everyday, ten tags per day is not helpful at all (It's not like pokemon that each tag is just a counter. Here every tag is a unique Mii, moving (not copying) from other's 3DS to yours, so please be serious to him/her). I'd rather to have 1~3 per week.

Re: Capcom Unsheathes An Announcement Trailer For The New Ace Attorney Title

mullen

I think that's not a pair of figures. The subtitled version is not very accuracy. According to my understanding, both the founder and the ancestor (forefather) are related to Naruhodou Ryuunosuke (0:30 in the video). Possibly the founder means he is the founder of the law or attorney in Japan (considering the background), or turnabout, and ancestor means the ancestor of Ryuuichi.

Re: First Impressions: Tomodachi Life

mullen

@Klunk23 The upper limit is 100, as each Mii needs one room in the Mansion, and there are at most 100 rooms (it starts with 24 rooms, and you will eventually get more rooms as more Miis move in).

Re: First Impressions: Tomodachi Life

mullen

@mystman12 That's the main function of the streetpass in Japanese version. However, since I live in US, I am really pissed off by this function as all my kids eventually "dead", I mean, streetpassed with someone who may not play this game anymore or couldn't streetpass my kid to a 3rd 3DS or turned of the spotpass function. Thus my kid would be in his/her 3DS forever and not send me any postcard or visit back or update travel information.
So if western versions keep the same manner, I really hope that everyone takes care of others' kids by regularly check and clear streetpass tags and enable the spotpass function of this game.
Btw, another function of the streetpass is to import goods from another islands, including cloths, hats, or even treasures, which are unavailable through regular play.

Re: First Impressions: Tomodachi Life

mullen

Hi, @Damo, thank you for this preview. Since I've played the Japanese version, I noticed that there is a plane on the sea next to the dock which is new for western version. Could you tell me what's that facility? Is that the image sharing tool (since I don't think Japanese version has such built-in tool)?

Re: Nintendo Provides Some Context to 2013's Tomodachi Life Same-Sex Marriage Controversy

mullen

Let me talk about one other aspect. If you're straight, and while you're playing this game, your Mii asks you whether he should fall in love with a boy (or she with a girl), what do you think? You may say to avoid this, each Mii can have one additional property about whether he/she loves boy/girl, but still, many people will not happy when seeing such option every time you created a new Mii.
One fact that I'm sure most players who never played this game misunderstand is that this game is different from animal crossing or the Sims, which you give commands to your character(s). In this game, you can only influence Miis. For example, you can't ask or help one Mii fall in love with another particular Mii. That is totally random, and the only thing you can do is when asked, you can say yes and give some suggestion, or say no can give your reason.

Re: Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Shows Off The Peculiarities of Tomodachi Life and Confirms Release Date

mullen

I created the following pictures to list all the differences between different versions (NA, EU, JP) that I noticed.
I saw some comments above talking about some differences, but you know, everything in this game is random or customizable, and 10 min can't cover everything, so I don't really consider all of them as different. What in my list are those significantly different from JP version.

Re: 3DS eShop-Exclusive Harvest December Visual Novel Series Set To Be Localized

mullen

I can't believe it. Once them come out, I'll buy them immediately (I already thought about getting them each month one new chapter came out). But don't let me wait until next December (For Japanese version, each month gets its corresponding chapter, e.g., Harvest December released in December, Giving February released in February, etc.)...

But wait, March 31st, that's actually April 1st in Japan considering different time zone...

Re: Tomodachi Collection: New Life Tests Western Waters with Survey

mullen

I can see something different from Japanese version according to these screenshots: BBQ is something new, as well as one new spot on the map (the ship or island southeast to the main island), the salesperson has a totally different hat (or mask? head?). Also, I didn't see any Asia food or cloth from these screenshots, which is very common in Japanese version. I'd say this localization is really a localization than a translation.

Re: Ace Attorney Creator Wanted to End Series at Original Trilogy

mullen

I agree. AA4 should be a start of a new series, just like AAI, AA5 is the worst of all 7 games (excluding Layton one, which I have not played yet), because the game itself doesn't know what's its direction. AAI should be a trilogy as well, then followed by AA4, which should have a totally new name, and all new characters, and even new game system.

Re: Less Than 5% of Those Polled by the Game Developers Conference Have Wii U Plans

mullen

At the beginning I was surprised the low number 3DS got. But think about it more, I think it's reasonable. Why? (In addition to that someone already pointed out the porting difficulty) Because large company in US can earn more from other systems, and small developers / indie developers can't survive on 3DS totally due to NOA! I mean, does any of you really notice most of the 3rd-party/indie eShop games on 3DS? I know you may be able to name some of them, but still very likely to ignore most of others, not because their quality, but because they have no way to be exposed. They are hide deeply in the eShop, not being recommended in anyway; it's possible that the only way you can locate them is directly searching their names, unless they're just released and you check the recently released channel regularly (I don't know how many of you do that every week; it takes several seconds or even up to minutes loading). Everything you can easily find in eShop are 1st-party or from other large companies. The reason I blame NOA is because JP eShop is much better. They also advertise games from small companies or indie games. There are much more demos (almost more than 3 demos every week) and encourage you to play demos by providing 5 club coins for each demo. There's a release note every week in eShop to let you know the updates (open instantly, no need to wait for loading), not only the newly released games, but also any game info updates before or after it released. You could also notice more channels for such games. To sum up, if a small developer put a game on NA eShop, it's more likely that no one even know its existing. That also explains why there're more developers for PSV in US, which system has poor sales number.
Hope NOA can notice that and do more for those developers and titles.

Re: Video: A New Bravely Default Trailer Shows You How To Get A Job

mullen

So this is what happened. Before the demo released, lots of comments said that they would not touch the demo because they don't like to play the beginning of the story and then need to wait months for the rest. Therefore, Nintendo tried to tell you that this demo is not about the main story of the game, you would not have such feeling. Now players complains about the demo has no real story. It's a demo, it's not a prologue. It's not something requires every player to play before they start the release version (so it can't be some real side stories). Also, you players don't want to just play the first few scenes and stop there for months. You players surely don't want to play some stories that totally irrelevant to the main game. So what do you want? Please don't ask too much for a demo and make it an impossible mission.

Re: Western Version Of Bravely Default Features Costume Changes For Female Characters

mullen

@kunimitsu This is something I totally agree. When I got my Japanese 3DS, I downloaded all the demos and played one by one. At that time I have no intention to buy this game, but after playing this demo (for 16 hours! I even made 9999 damage in the demo), I made the order immediately. What's more, that's when the game just released and it was immediately out of stock. There's no eShop version at that time as well, so I paid more than it's original price to get one. I think this is the only demo that have such large influence to my decision.
But I don't think that will happen to anyone else here, because I must say at that time, the game is not expected to be success either in western world or in Japan; everyone has very low expectation, and that's why the last demo (there are 4 or 5 demos in Japan) changes lots of players' mind, and result in a out of stock situation. Now lots of players know this game and have higher expectation, so maybe someone will disappoint.

Re: Western Version Of Bravely Default Features Costume Changes For Female Characters

mullen

@theblackdragon as far as I can say, it means new BP system that related to micro transition. Just never touch it, and the game system is original. I also don't think that's something you must use, nor without it the game be more difficult than original. I think it's already easier, and with BP, it's just too easy (unless you start with hard difficulty). So put it simple, just avoid it.

Re: Western Version Of Bravely Default Features Costume Changes For Female Characters

mullen

@CaviarMeths of course I think it's stupid. Senran kagura's controversial is much more than only about underwear, and more importantly, removing all those controversial elements leaves almost nothing for this game. (Don't think I'm biased. I have already played the Japanese version, and know that all other parts are low quality that can be ignored).
It's not ESBR too harsh for foreign title. As I said, it's CERO D in Japan, which is equivalent to M. If it's just a little above the line, CERO can rate it as C, which equivalent to a rate between T and M in ESBR.
All my above statements based on the assumption that the US version is not censored. If it's censored, I really can't see any reason to play it.

Re: Talking Point: New Year Resolutions for Nintendo

mullen

@Barbiegurl777 that's tomodachi.
I serious doubt that because the culture of that game is just too different from western world, and Nintendo may be afraid of bad sales / critical because of that difference, especially that localization that game is very difficult, maybe not easier than create a whole new game (I played that game nearly hundreds of hours so I know that).

Re: Feature: The Biggest 3DS Games of 2014

mullen

I vote for Layton x Phoenix. The game I like most is Bravely Default, but I already have it and have no intention to play a 3rd or 4th time. I also interested in Super Smash Bros., but I'm just afraid the stupid network or region-lock policy may ruin this game like Mario Party. I need more information to make decision.

Re: Talking Point: New Year Resolutions for Nintendo

mullen

I want to add some controversial and some trivial points
1. Region-free please, or at least give game developers the right to choose whether region-free.
2. Save screenshots to SD card. We know it's possible, as you can post selected games screenshots to MiiVerse. But I want it to be available for all games, without network, and the local files are 3D version.
3. More wireless connections. 3 is far from enough for me (2 home, 1 vpn, 1 university, and I'm a frequent traveler).
4. Better platinum club rewards.
5. Some exclusive 3DS eShop games as club rewards.
5. List all the updates of eShop products in a notification per week, rather than let players to find all by themselves (or means, US eShop should learn JP eShop; I don't know if EU eShop do something like this)
6. More communities in MiiVerse, it'd be best if every important released game has one, and have a specially community to let you post any game's screenshot or communities by genre. I also want to have a specially community to post your 3D photos. It may under more strict control, e.g., every posts need to be reviewed before available to other users (actually there's already a Core D (17+) game in Japanese MiiVerse community that has very strict control)
7. Make Mii Plaza easier for new comers. It's just a nightmare if they know they need to collect 1000+ pieces of puzzles and beat Find Mii 2+3+10 times. Also, if they want to release new mini-games, make sure every game can play as fast as possible, e.g., 1 minute each time (can skip all the useless dialogues). Otherwise during streetpass events or comic cons, your speed of clear out tags may not fast enough, and you can't do anything else other than playing Mii Plaza.

Re: StreetPass Games Producers Tell Origins of Mii Plaza's Playground

mullen

@allav866 I don't play the new Zelda game, but I may understand what you mean. I also want to mention Bravely Default, which have streetpass feature, but you can also just connect the server everyday and get 1~3 random friends, which have exactly same effect as streetpass.
Maybe Nintendo should consider it this way. I don't mean to use such function to replace streetpass, because Nintendo want players to take their 3DS out. Maybe they can at least consider such way to make old games easier, but you still need real streetpass for new games.

Re: StreetPass Games Producers Tell Origins of Mii Plaza's Playground

mullen

@ollietaro I don't know why you think that in this way. I already beat all 6 games (not only the all the hats, but also all the elements you can think about (maxed out the solder number, all colors/flowers/perfect jobs, filled all floors)except the arcade hard mode of Mii Force. However, that's only because I have all the benefits I described and really put lots of hours every day on these games, and I don't know any of my friends can archive that even they are equally or more love these games. I can still remember the days that I just finished the 10th gameplay of Find Mii II and thought I can rest that those 4 games released. I don't know if there will be any new mini games in the coming weeks. If there is, maybe I can still barely catch up the pace, but I think 99% of players can't. That's what I meant.

Re: StreetPass Games Producers Tell Origins of Mii Plaza's Playground

mullen

I live in Arizona where we have a large community that hold streetpass events every few weeks, with usually 50+tags each time. I can get few tags every day from university, 3 tags from my other 3ds, and I travel worldwide several months each year, attend different comic cons, and get more tags. But even with all that benefits that most players don't have, I can just barely catch up the with speed of releasing new mini games and new panels. I think Nintendo should really consider the feelings of the players out of Japan, because I can say most players out of Japan may have no chance to follow that speed, and may eventually give up.
FYI, the no 47 to 55 accomplishments in Mii plaza are obtain 10000 to 90000 tags, which sounds almost impossible. What's more, no 56 to 65 is still unknown. If following that pattern, the no 65 could be 200,000 or 1,000,000 tags. For the later case, even if you can get 100 tags everyday, it will take 27 years to reach that point. Even for the no 55(90000) case, it's two and half years with 100 tags per day, or 25 years if only 10 tags per day.

Re: Video: Bravely Second Teaser Trailer Goes Live

mullen

@PrincessEevee9 I doubt if SE is the one who should be blamed. I would blame NOA for the delay. Both PAL and NA version of BD is published by Nintendo, not SE, and both contents are the same as BDFTS (only little different, but generally the same, because all versions are multi-language). That means, if NOA want, there is no reason that NA version of BD can't be released at the same time as BDFTS and PAL version (I would also think SE wanted that, otherwise they don't need to make BDFTS and PAL be the same release date). I don't know why NOA want to delay it, maybe they want better sales number for other games, or they just hate JRPG (think about other JRPGs on Nintendo platform in NA).

Re: Video: Prepare To Be Jealous As Nintendo of Europe President Satoru Shibata Shows Off His 3DS Collection

mullen

@MrGawain I somewhat agree with you. I think it's good that someone can play Japanese games have the right to make decision, because he may personally like some great games, and then influence the localization decision. Also, Layton vs. ace attorney is not a Nintendo game, but he still promote it in this video. Think about there are so many games that Europe got localized version first, may be that's the reason.

Re: Super Mario 3D World Underwhelms on Japanese Chart Début

mullen

I hope Nintendo doesn't find any excuse like what some fans did in the comments. There is no excuse no matter how you compare the number, if you really compare the numbers (without empty assumptions), WiiU is dead in Japan, this is concluded, even Mario Kart can't save it. It doesn't worth any other tries. Nintendo should either just focus on western market, like XO, or prepare their next generation.
Btw, bring Mario 3D world to 3DS, and Nintendo will have my money.
