Re: Soapbox: Super Metroid Showed Me I Had The Right To Exist

Absolutely loved this article. It covers a lot of my thoughts as a female gamer growing up. Especially the part about feeling like you have to settle for under-dressed-woman-who-likes-it-that-way or girl-power-woman.

Like, the more it is highlighted that the character is “Female!!” the less I personally feel connected to them.

Re: Level-5 Is Working On At Least One Nintendo Switch Game

miladyliza

YES! I was hoping Level-5 would develop something for the Switch. They have so many well-loved franchises and their new IPs are always great - they could release anything hahaha.

I'm going to be a weirdo and say I hope they release something like the Guild series from the 3DS (it was a compilation of smaller games) or just random games in general. That way, the company can test the waters for the type of audience the Switch has, and then produce the IPs that come closest to it.

That or they can just take a dive and throw their IPs right in, but I'm not sure that's a good idea for them... It's more exciting anyway to have new games and IPs. If all the other companies are just porting over their IPs, Level-5 would stand out best by putting something new or unknown on the table.

Re: Video: Super Bomberman R Gameplay And Intro Sequence Get Shown Off

I'm honestly super excited for this game, and I'm glad to see Nintendo Life covering it!! It's kind of disappointing to see others aren't so into it though (and even more disappointing to see some prefer Bombergirl, but that's another story and to each their own). This is the only other Switch exclusive aside from 1-2-Switch at launch, so it's unfortunate people don't see its potential. I wish Konami would promote this game more too; then maybe people might understand its full appeal.

If your friend circle is not silly enough to play 1-2-Switch, this game is a much more comfortable alternative. Similar to 1-2-Switch, explaining Bomberman's controls and how to play is relatively simple. It's family-friendly too, so you can play with your children or they can play with their friends. Also, the levels shouldn't take too long to complete, so you can play in short bursts if you're the busy type (as I am). This game is perfect for the Switch, so it's truly unfortunate to see that it's not gaining as much traction as it should.

Re: Editorial: No, Nintendo Switch Isn't Having a 'Soft Launch', But The Perception is a Problem

miladyliza

Couldn't agree more; it really does have to do with the launch title content rather than number. Aside from 1-2- Switch, Breath of the Wild, and Super Bomberman R, the rest of the launch titles are ports. This makes it easy for people to lose interest if they are not fans of those three games, which is unfortunately a substantial number of people. Top that with the fact that the media likes to exaggerate negative news, and it will appear that the Switch is having a "soft launch." (I had no idea people were using the word "soft launch" wrong. Thanks for the info!)

I think no matter what, there was no way for the Switch to launch with completely positive reception from the media. It has been received positively by non-hardcore gamers though. Also, I do believe the approach is correct - the Switch emphasizes taking the console outside and sharing the joy cons with others. The more the console is seen and shared with non-owners, the more interest it will drum up and the more likely someone will buy it for themselves. So even if pre-launch looks bad, post-launch should look much better when people see other people with Switches.

Re: Tatsumi Kimishima Responds to Criticism Over the Switch Launch Line-Up

I think it's the right approach. Quality over quantity, and you don't want the games eating into each other's sales.

It makes sense from a consumer standpoint as well. Can't speak for other people, but I typically only buy one game at a time; rarely will I buy two at once. But with the launch lineup, I already like two games (Breath of the Wild and Super Bomberman R). If they were releasing Splatoon 2 as a launch title alongside Breath of the Wild, I would not buy all three, and whichever one is not bought will likely NEVER be bought by me after my hype for it dies.

Re: Super Bomberman R's Retail Price Has Finally Been Confirmed

miladyliza

Yesss, I'm so glad it's not $60!! At $50, I'm very willing to buy it, though $40 would have been a more approachable price.
I like the art style and kooky characters, which are fun and also make this launch game the most approachable to young gamers. $40 would have convinced parents to buy it readily, I'd say, so it's a missed opportunity to expand the fan base to the younger generation.
