I think something got lost in the conversation here. I know Zestiria came out before Berseria, and Berseria is the prequel to Zestiria. All I was trying to say is that Berseria isnt a prequel to Arise because they arent connected from a narrative perspective.
Yes, Berseria came out right before arise, but they are not connected from a narrative perspective. Zestiria and Berseria are though, with Berseria being the prequel to Zestiria.
Not quite. That would be Tales of Zestiria. A game that I would recommend playing before Berseria, because Berseria trumps Zesteria in every department. So it would be a big let down.
Maybe for Octopath 1, but the second was faaar better. Sure, there is a certain familiarity to the gameplay loop, but that could be said about any of the JRPGs from the 90s (the games this game takes inspiration from).
Also, i said these games were "decent". Only Triangle Strategy and OT i considered fantastic.
Ultimately, what im trying to say is that its healthy for a game studio to also release mediocre/good titles. Not every game needs to be a 10/10 experience. And while the titles I mentioned have flaws (some larger than others) they still have their place.
Im not sure what the big issue is for SE. They have steadily released big titles, like their Final Fantasy remakes, as well as titles from known franchises like Dragon Quest. It would be sad to see their experimental side go away. Games like Triangle Strategy, and the Octopath Games were fantastic. And even smaller titles like Bravely Default 2, Harvestella and Diofield Chronicles, while not earth shattering were pretty decent in their own way. Sure there were some duds here and there, but experimentation is important for growth. Otherwise we will be replaying the same stuff over and over again.
Im on the verge of 100% ing this game on the xbox and have been contemplating getting the PS5 version to have it physically. If the switch 2 gets it in a proper format and quality I may just pivot.
Not quite. Keep in mind that for the most part these original japanese releases have been out for a long time. We in the west are only just about now finally caught up (Trails Beyond the Horizons japanese release, Kai, just released a couple of weeks ago).
So while to us it may seem like these games are coming out really quickly, thats just the effect of focused localization efforts.
Too few people are talking about Baten Kaitos here. Seriously underrated gems from the Gamecube eroa. Also, unless im mistaken its the first time we get BK Origins in Europe. Its probably the news that made me the happiest
I am really looking forward to this game. I am not really digging the fanservice on display here, and in general this game seems to go the direction FE Heroes and Fates went (which I am not too happy about). Other than that though the game looks fantastic. Visually it pops and seems to run really well, and the little we saw of the gameplay looked rather good. Day 1 for me.
@Polvasti i agree. I have no problem with sex or sexualization in videogames, but I was never really a fan of "fanservice." Either put it in proper context and/or do it tastefully. In this case it just comes off as a lazy way to cater to the simplest male urges (see cowmilla from fates or what theyre doing with FE Heroes).
Still getting this day 1 because im a sucker for for FE, but I wish they would go back to the better design from Echoes.
Ive tried it on switch but I just cant recommend it at all. Its a great game literally anywhere else (even Apex Legends Mobile) but the switch Version suffers so much from a trchnical standpoint. If you have any other system to play on I would recommend it.
Thats slowly my thinking as well. It is increasingly incredibly rare to be without internet.
Back when the xbone was announced i was fuming at the "always online"/"authenticate once" concept (despite having rock solid internet), but now its starting to become a non-issue. I actually recently came back from a trip to africa. Had no problem finding a spot with free wifi to download the three hopes Demo.
@Ultimapunch I agree in part. I have Gamepass and really like it for getting to play those games I would have probably never bought anyways but still would like to try. Also, while I do also like to look back on my collection of games that goes all the way back to the snes, i find myself rarely if ever playing them despite to this day proclaiming some of these games as being my GOATs. So I often ask myself the question how important it was to own these games? Granted, there was no way to buy games online on the snes, so its a moot point for retro consoles. But I can apply the train of thought to games available today.
Through gamepass I really only buy the games I absolutely must have, at the same time it gives me the opportunity to play games I just dont want to buy (ME Legendary Edition, Scarlet Nexus, Hitman Trilogy etc) and dont feel the need to own.
@Walterd I didnt read that in the NL article so I didnt have those statements on my radar. I agree with you, even in our more direct culture, thats not considered criticism and pretty ***** behavior.
I dont have examples of racist jokes they used so I may stand corrected but keep in mind that what people from, say tue US see as racist is not neccessarily seen the same way everywhere else. To us some of the latest outcries that we have seen in the previous decade are just seen as hyper-/oversensitive. What I do agree with though, and I have seen this in person, that if a person is subjected to those kinds of jokes, adresses that they do not like it and feel uncomfortable things are put in place to ensure this doesnt happen again.
@kobashi100 Austrians like to poke fun at differences. Whether thats between two neighboring towns or people of different continents doesnt really matter. However, unlike others we can take being the butt of the joke too. This kind of behavior is not something youll see in touristy areas, so you wouldnt be confronted with it anyways unless you plan to stay for an extended time.
If you cant take jokes concerning your country or heritage and learn not only to brush it off but make a witty combeack (which usually results in you getting invited for a beer) then I agree, youre probably better off not coming here. From my experience with foreigners who have come to study here for instance they learn to grow quite fond of this aspect. To each their own.
At the end of the day neither of us was there so its unclear what happened and what not. The cultural aspect you raise is certainly interested.
I am Austrian myself and I agree about your point of direct communication (though, typically Austrians are less blunt about it than Germans). Praise is something that is rarely given and more implied through actions. If you did a good job at work, with a project an idea or whatever higher ups usually reward that by saying something like "allright we will do that" or "sounds alright, we will push forward with this." Praise is implied because your idea/work was deemed a suitable path to continue on with.
I can see how in a multicultural "remote" team this could lead to issues. The key being "remote" because its tough to embrace and understand this part of our culture if you dont actually live here.
Lastly, the topic of racism. Austrians, despite being a pretty open society are very quick to note differneces. These could be appearances, dialects, maneurisms etc. And Austrians are typically wary of strangers and everythibg strange to them. In a company where employees have a certain level of familiarity with one another this manifests in cracking jokes at the expense of your colleagues. These jokes are often "racist" but its expected for everyone to crack these kinds of jokes about each other. So everyone can have a good laugh. To outisders this may seem pretty inacceptable, to us its normal and fun. Again, something you have to live here for to truly understand.
That said, i dont want to belittle the concerns and issues their employees expressed, just wanted to comment on the cultural aspect being a factor in all this.
Well for one it has an entirely unappealing aesthetic to me. And as much as gameplay matter, visuals do also matter to me. Also, I have a very wide range of games I want to play and have been meaning to get started on that I am not interested in playing another Pokemon game (especially of the same gen as the most recent releases) anytime soon.
It just annoys me that they could just create "unlock criteria" within BD/SP without the need to buy a separate game. Its not like the mew/jirachi unlocks, pokemon that have been regularly thrown at players, Arceus is much rarer.
Hard pass for me i guess. Ive been looking forward to finally getting my hands on an Arceus, but Legends Arceus doesnt interest me and even if it did I dont have the time to finish that game to the neccessary point to complete a different game I already have.
What a stupid pre-requisite. At least make it obtainable using requirements from the same game (see Shaymin and Darkrai).
@Richnj I dont fully agree with you. While I agree that some people in Russia clearly dont want this fight (as seen by the protests that sparked across the country), i do think partial blame has to be given to the citizens for repeatedly electing someone who keeps increasing his autocratic powers.
It reminded me of a discussion we had in Austria after the war. After WW2 we all said that it was the politicians and nazi leadership that caused us to join the war, the people didnt want this. It took several years for us to finally agree that while it was the politicians giving orders and signing aqay human rights, it was still the people that continuously enabled them to do what they did, and in fact we, collectively, were perfectly ok with what had happened. In my opinion the russian people (collectively not individually) are similarly responsible for what is happening right now.
And while I have heard about the laws the Ukraine was trying to pass, and agree that they are wrong, this does not change the fact that Russia invaded a sovereign country (arguably a second time since 2014). Two wrongs dont make a right.
I hope this comment does not get deleted. I tried writing it in a respectful tone to prompt a proper discussion without it devolving into an emotional mess. Hope it came across that way, if not im sure the moderators will act accordingly.

As a longtime series fan i am not really sure why people are so upset about this. I mean, sure i wouldve prefered a mainline FE game, but warriors wasnt bad for what it was and i actually prefer the focused nature of this game being set in the Fodlan universe. Also, i never liked the fates cast, so this game being set in fodlan, with (for me) one of the best roster of characters is awesome!
Oh and, people saying they got burned out after playing the same game several times (on multiple consoles nonetheless) or several hundred hours....yeah of course youre burn yourself out at some point if you play this much...
