Re: Donkey Kong Nearly Missed Out On Pixels Stardom

@mr_nihilism Fodder. Pure and simple. Don´t get me wrong - the beginning with Sandler's character as a kid taking part in championships and all it's a nice throwback to the arcade era (even Peter Dinklage's character is a somewhat interesting nod to Billy Mitchell, with mullet and all). But that's it. Without spoiling it even more, everything after this is a slow and boring ride. Lame jokes about MIT (not the one you're thinking of), women and nerds. It's not good honestly. But as the saying goes - different strokes for different people.
Hope you and your daughter have fun. Tell me later about your impressions

I've just seen it (movies in Brazil premiere on Thursdays) and it's not good imho. Even with my nostalgia glasses on it's 2014 TMNT levels of bad actually. I know Sandler has a tendency to slouch and act in a lazy manner but jeez-louise the guy is worse than a Romero zombie in this film. Flat jokes, no adequate pacing. It also takes too damn long for the "aliens" to show up (at about 50 mins in of a 1h30 movie). I have lots to say but I don't think I'll change anyone's mind about seeing this or not (nor do I want that). See it yourself then.
P.s. seeing paperboy cameo was kinda nice, I guess .

Just adding my two cents to your comment
Dinosaur Planet was supposed to be an N64 title at the end of its lifespan. A swan song, if you will.
Rumor has it that Shigeru Miyamoto, after gazing at the project, hinted that the main character looked a lot like Fox Mccloud. This led Rare to make a complete change and actually turn their new ip into a Star Fox game which was was an entirely different beast when it was finally released for the Gamecube.
