Re: Heroes of Ruin Trailer Asks a Lot of Questions

joevox316

I watched a video of one of the developers playing through a stage on YouTube. It looks pretty cool. It's not too much like Diablo or Titan's Quest because it has more of an emphasis on action. I always wondered why hack n' slash games made you feel more like a robot and less like you were....hacking and slashing. you can even roll around.

Re: Sakurai: Next Smash Bros. "May Take a While"

joevox316

Oh gee you guys are all real clever aren't you? Chill out. Sakurai relayed this to the press yesterday and James is just reporting on it like he should.

I'm fine with Sakurai taking as long as he wants. Iwata kind of sprung this on him, which if I remember correctly he wasn't terribly pleased about. He wanted to do Kid Icarus to take a break from Smash Bros...and it keeps pulling him back in!

Re: TIGA Calls for Clarification on Download Sales Secrecy

joevox316

Why does everyone keep shaking the finger at Icon games and other developers that make what they see as bad games? If find it hard to believe those polls with 3rd party developers naming Nintendo as their least favorite company to deal with solely consisted of "bad" developers. It's not just them.

@stompy All good points, stompy.

Re: Nintendo Has No Plans to Fix Mario Kart 7's Maka Wuhu Glitch

joevox316

Honestly, if I was sitting there playing multiplayer MK 64 in the 90s/2000s and there was a glitch like this, this would probably happen: My cousin exploits it; I smack him; we agree not to use it; next time we both try and use it to our advantage; it's not fun; we mostly just agree not to use it.

I never expected my games to get fixed back in the day, so it doesn't really affect me. But like someone else said, if you see someone exploiting it, you could always just rage quit.

Re: Review: Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island (Game Boy Advance)

joevox316

My sister had the original for the SNES. Much like her copy of Uniracers, she would occasionally grant me the boon of playing it haha I remember thinking it was neat then, and love the fact that I got it for free for my 3DS now.
@Sam_Loser2 It's possible it's nostalgia. For me, nothing can beat my memories of playing it on a TV in the 90s when I was a kid. It's just different on a tiny screen.
@Gavin_Rozee You're problem might be thinking of it as a Mario platformer instead of a Yoshi platformer.

Re: Review: The Kore Gang (Wii)

joevox316

Yeah 4 seems too low. 4s on NL mean that a game is buggy, broken, and has such flaws in that respect that it devalues the game considerably. I didn't really get that vibe from the review. All I heard was "It isn't flashy enough."

Re: Kid Icarus's 3DS Stand Coming to North America Too

joevox316

Of for Pete's sake will everyone stop making the already unoriginal comments about the 3DS and how it's supposed to be portable LOL not to be rude but this is an OPTIONAL peripheral as Andrewroxsox said. It's not necessary. I for one had no trouble with Metroid Prime Hunters. I doubt I'd have any similar trouble with this. It's just if you want to use it.

Re: Your Favourite WiiWare Demos Are Now Back

joevox316

Generosity? Why the heck did they take them down in the first place? I got the Bit.Trip Runner demo over the summer and it convinced me to buy the full version. I needed moar! But yeah, if they make the demos limited enough then people won't just sit around playing the demo instead of eventually buying the actual game, if that's what they're worried about.

Re: Gaijin Games Explains Why RUNNER2 Won't Reach Wii

joevox316

I would be more glad to hear the fact that it's coming to PS3 if I didn't sell my PS3 for a 3DS. I don't regret it though. I just hope that it comes to WiiU. It seems that at this point in my life (post-PS2) that Nintendo is where it's at for me.

Re: Gaijin Games Explains Why RUNNER2 Won't Reach Wii

joevox316

I think it's kind of funny to read all the groaning, moaning, and doom and gloom talk when it comes to the Wii being dead. That's how it is with EVERY console. There's no point in focusing on putting lots of major content on a console when the new version is about to be released in a matter of months. There have been a smattering of good games like Xenoblade and such (like Chrono and Mario RPG for SNES, Vectorman for Genesis). I can't think of any consoles this hasn't been the case with so it shouldn't be surprising.

Re: Review: The Kore Gang (Wii)

joevox316

@Gamesake Yeah well I WAS enthused by that and the at-the-time unique controls when I was 9 years old haha So no it's not the best game by today's standards, but I have fond memories of it. I just thought it was funny to see you bagging on a 13 year old game everywhere I looked haha Though it makes me smile when you randomly do that Bought it for my PSP and only played it once. Hasn't aged too well admittedly.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Wii U Will Not Make Wii Games Sharper

joevox316

@Portisanta I'm sort of wit you on that. Maybe I'm not as techy as other folks but I don't see why anyone would have been expecting that. The PS3 didn't do that with PS2 games if I remember correctly. So, it makes sense that like Sony Nintendo might release HD versions.

Re: Review: The Kore Gang (Wii)

joevox316

@Mok I wouldn't say these are lazy developers putting out shovelware. This game is probably as old as some of the kids posting on this site! It took them years to get it off the ground and I guess it just didn't pan out like they might have wanted it too. Though, it might have snatched a higher score if it had been released ten years ago when they first started working on it. I would have enjoyed it. I still might.

Re: Review: The Kore Gang (Wii)

joevox316

@Gamesake What's with the constant Ape Escape hate?! Probably not the most phenomenal game ever nowadays but I loved that game when I was younger. Good times.

Re: New Pokémon Title Coming to Japan in March

joevox316

"Who knew?" I knew actually. Read about it a few weeks ago but almost forgot until you mentioned it. I have never really liked Pokemon, even though I was about the right age to when the craze hit back in the 90s. But this actually seems interesting. I'd keep my eye on it just to see how it works out.

Re: Review: The Kore Gang (Wii)

joevox316

Woah. This review came out of nowhere haha I was considering getting this game last year. Had my eye on it throughout 2011. Had so much potential. I feel sorry for the folks cause it took em so many years to finally get it made and out the door. I'll probably think about getting it in the future, 4/10 notwithstanding.

Re: Review: Flipper 2: Flush the Goldfish (DSiWare)

joevox316

7: "will sport a few areas where the game is blatantly let down to the detriment of its overall quality and enjoyment"
8: "Minor niggling factors or a badly judged difficulty spike may have made this game fall short"

I respect the reviewer's opinion, but judging by the written review itself, comments like the main issue being only a "minor niggle", and the site's scoring policy as seen above, it seems like I might be inclined to agree with @HugoSmits about the score. Good review though. =) Can't wait for a US release. =D

Re: Review: Samurai Sword Destiny (3DSWare)

joevox316

NL defines a 4 game as having "Broken gameplay, bugs, bad control schemes, inflexible options." I don't really think this game deserves a 4. 5 maybe. It's certainly not buggy, and it's not broken. The button controls aren't too bad. So a 4 is a bit harsh methinks. The gameplay is your average brawler, and it's really quite fun if your a fan of that genre, and samurais, and feudal Japan. It isn't too great and it's rather repetitive (which I'm fine with if I get to wail on things with a sword), but it's a fun time waster that does in fact look good in 3D (I might not have liked it so much without 3D). =)

Re: Review: A Topsy Turvy Life: The Turvys Strike Back (DSiWare)

joevox316

What?!? This was one of the first DSiWare games I downloaded for my 3DS and I LOVED it! Great title for 2 bucks! Apparently you didn't find it too difficult to be harsh lol But really it's probably because I'm such a fan of games like Galaga. For the price of that jumbo candy bar you eyed last time you were in the Wal*Mart check-out line, I assure you, this is worth it if you're a fan of games like Galaga and want a neat twist.

Re: Samurai Sword Destiny

joevox316

Seeing as how there's no review yet you can head over to the forums to check out people's impressions of it. It's not a masterpiece of a game, but it looks good in 3D and it's a fun brawler, if your into that sort of thing.

Re: Review: Super Monkey Ball 3D (3DS)

joevox316

I miss the death defying insanity of the original Monkey Ball games. I own this but I found it to be quite boring. The levels, in my opinion, offer virtually no challenge at all. Railings everywhere make it almost impossible to ever fall. It's just...rolling a ball around rather easy "mazes." There aren't even very many of them. I dunno. Disappointed.

Re: Icon Games: "Nintendo's Policies Put Jobs at Risk"

joevox316

I don't see what the big issue is: Icon games are acting childish. They breached contract and threw petty insults. Just ignore them.

But yes, Nintendo is far too strict to the point where other developers generally despise dealing with them. They shouldn't take that fact lightly. That doesn't excuse Icon Games ridiculous behavior mind you, but that doesn't change the fact that Nintendo is not doing right with their online marketplace or the people wanting to do business with them. The PSN store feels like a mall. It's fun! It's flashy! Indie and third party developers become stars! When you think about it like that, the Wii and eShops feel more like marketplaces under dictatorial rule. Somewhat cold, awkward, and not as fun as the mall. (but I have loved many games purchased behind that cold, metallic curtain)

Re: Interview: Mutant Mudds Reader Questions

joevox316

@Djrr-ific Yes well, they're a US based team, so their focus on releasing it in the US is only natural. At least they're being better about it than Japan, with it's billion different titles we'll never see.

@bboy2970 I understand what you mean. It does seem like a different beast than Cave Story, and may be too old school for the crowd that might be drawn to Cave Story instead. Though really, $8 in only a two dollar difference. I think it's more of a psychological thing: people see $10 on a download and say "Run away" more easily than if they saw, say, $7.99. It still seems like a MORE than fair price though, but it might hurt them in the long run.

@Master-Nas Firstly, I respect your posted opinion. However, how in the world could SpotPass/StreetPass improve this game? How would it even fit? Most games from the 8-bit era didn't have unlockable weapons and such really. It's trying to appeal to old school gamers, not the generation that has sadly grown up on games including those insufferable "achievements" and other garbage. I understand what you mean though. =) But I'm glade they focused on making a fun old school game rather than shoehorn in features like SpotPass/StreetPass, which I don't care about in the first place.

Re: Trip World

joevox316

The graphics are great, the animations are great, it looks really fun, and the music is some of the best I have heard out of a Game Boy game. I really hope this comes to North America. =)

Re: Turn Your Retro Cartridges Into ROMS, Legally

joevox316

Not to be Johnny Raincloud, but even if someone says it's legal to put ROMs up on the Net if they own the original, Nintendo of America, on it's official site, says that it's not and they highly disapprove (but that's not surprising or anything). As the article says, you can make back-ups, "though any distribution of that back-up would be highly illegal."

Re: Millions of Wii Games Pirated in 2011

joevox316

It's a very valid point that games aren't that much more expensive now than they were "back in the day," as @Wizzrobe said. And nowadays I'm betting games are a heck of a lot more expensive to make than the used to be.

I generally don't buy full-priced games. But I don't pirate them. If I want a new game--and they're just that: games, flashy big-person toys--I don't stoop to the arrogance of downloading it illegally to give it a try. I either buy it, wait till the price drops, or learn to live without my flashy toy for a while (or indefinitely).

Re: Review: VVVVVV (3DSWare)

joevox316

@Oddy Thanks! I went ahead and downloaded it. Not disappointed. It almost instantly made me nostalgic. It feels great. And yes, the 3D is nice. Everything pops nicely. The music is also great. It's like distilled Mega Man with a hint of...awesome. Or something. I think I've already died about 100 times but that's part of the fun.

Re: Review: VVVVVV (3DSWare)

joevox316

You can currently download a free demo on PC, and last I checked it was on sale for about $1.24. Even when it isn't, it's still cheaper than this version. I want this, but what about the 3D? That seems to be the selling point, but I haven heard much about it. Is it pretty good?

Re: Sonic 4: Episode II Teaser Trailer Due Tomorrow

joevox316

Sonic 4 Ep. 1 was a little too fast/chaotic and much too short. Depending on improvements, if any, I'll probably save up to buy Generations. Or skip em' both and buy Sonic CD for $3 on my iPhone. The app store has had so many wonderful Sonic games lately...

Re: Watch a Slice of Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword

joevox316

@Neram Yes well it is from a Japanese company. That's their country's history. It's not like "that space marine stuff has been done to death." They like stuff based on their history. It's a little hard to do that to death. I like Feudal Japan subject matter too. Good stuff.
