Re: Review: Romancing SaGa 3 - A JRPG Classic That's Often Quite Hard To Love

jerrycoeurl

I love the SaGa series, even though a lot of them are pretty weird/hard to love. For my money the series peaked with Final Fantasy Legends II/SaGa II on the Game Boy and SaGa Frontier on the PSX. I find them endlessly fascinating and replayable. I feel like SaGa Frontier’s critical reception was a victim of the immense popularity of FFVII, but to me it’s a flawed masterpiece and one of the hidden gems on the PlayStation.

Re: Review: Dragon Quest II: Luminaries Of The Legendary Line - The 'Difficult Second Album' Of Enix's Classic Series

I am playing the translated Super Famicom ROM of this right now on my SNES Classic. My first time through. It’s... okay. I like the introduction of actual party members in addition to the Hero. The soundtrack is super repetitive, though. That battle theme is just obnoxious. Assuming this isn’t Koichi Sugiyama’s best work. Just about to head to the Underwater Volcano section. I get that it’s an NES RPG from the 80’s but I wish the game was a little clearer on where I’m supposed to go next.

At any rate, a damn sight better than Final Fantasy II for NES. I’m guessing it’ll be a solid 6/10 for me when all is said and done. Can’t say I’m not excited to finish it and get on with DQIII, though.

Re: Review: Sayonara Wild Hearts - A Marvellous, Music-Driven Masterpiece

I played through Sayonara Wild Hearts earlier today and I absolutely loved it. Magical experience and once I started playing I couldn’t put it down. I can’t speak for everyone’s wallet but this was 100% worth the eShop asking price for my money. Currently working on getting gold ranks on every level, excited to try the “album mode” and whatever all gold ranks unlocks (no spoilers, please!)

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch Lite - Half A Switch, But That's More Than Enough For Some

jerrycoeurl

I preordered a Switch Lite for my partner (along with Link’s Awakening for myself) at GameStop, and I am super excited to get it tomorrow! We mostly play games together in bed, and they’ve been using my old gaming laptop. I know they’re gonna love playing Skyrim and Minecraft on a shiny new toy 😃

For myself, I’m happy with my OG model. I’ve dropped a decent chunk of change on a second set of Joycon, a Pro controller, and I do enjoy playing on the TV from time to time. Can’t say I’m not a little jealous, though! I thinking I’ll definitely want to upgrade (downgrade?) at some point. 99% of my play is in portable mode anyway.

Re: Review: Grandia HD Collection - Two Classic Games, Shoddily Remastered

@Alucard83 Calm down, man. It’s just a game. This review clearly stated that they’re both classics and that the issue was with the quality of the ports, and that additional bugs had been introduced into them. Not that the games themselves are bad. I was really looking forward to picking this one up but I’m gonna wait for a sale or a patch... I’m glad this review addressed the new problems that this port introduced. I’ll stick to my PSX copy for now.

Re: Review: SEGA AGES Puyo Puyo - You Can't Polish A Puyo This Plain

jerrycoeurl

I like Puyo Puyo and I’ll pick this one up eventually. I’ve grabbed all of the other Switch SEGA AGES releases on day one, because it’s important to me to support them financially to show that the effort they put into these titles is worth it. This will likely be the first one I’ll wait for a sale price on, though.

Re: Feature: The History Of Streets Of Rage

@BulbasaurusRex He only says “Bare Knuckle” in Streets of Rage III, which was a change made during localization. In Streets of Rage 2 and Bare Knuckle III, he says “Grand Upper,” which is the name of the move.

Re: Feature: The History Of Streets Of Rage

Streets of Rage 2 is, in my humble opinion, the best beat-em-up of all time. I like the first game’s soundtrack better, but both titles (along with the Revenge of Shinobi’s OST) represent Koshiro at his absolute peak.

I’m not sold on SoR4 yet, I am really not a fan of Lizard Cube’s “house style,” but I am cautiously optimistic and trying to keep open minded.
