Expected this, but I'm still disappointed. For an otherwise innovative company, I can't understand why Nintendo can't move with the times when it comes to region-locking. It really is an archaic practice, that ultimately hurts consumers and limits the potential of the system. And for what? It's not like the majority of consumers import games anyway...
I saw the Sun's top 5 reasons for not buying a WiiU, through an external site (I'm not going to bother viewing their page and going all fanboy mode in their comments section, I'll leave that to others). All 5 reasons were laughable to say the very least, but let's look at the first one in particular - "It'll be outdated in a year" Maybe we shouldn't buy newspapers then? They're outdated before they're even released (using the same retarded logic ofc)
I hate how these rehashed fps games have dominated the industry, but let's face it, potentially having the best console version of this game on the Wii U will definitely help push sales...
Maybe this will stop small time companies suing Nintendo. It's pointless. Stop trying to make a quick buck and work on getting money through legitimate means.
This is one of the many things that is wrong with the industry. Crysis 3 should have no problem running on the WiiU with the Cryengine 3 working well on the console. Why aren't they actively looking to get this game on the WiiU? Now, I'm sure devs complain about the fact that 3rd party games don't sell too well on Nintendo consoles compared to Nintendo first party titles. And yet they fail to take the initiative and launch their best games on the console, especially with few big Nintendo titles to compete with!? (bar Pikmin 3 ofc) What gives?? And yes, I know it's a risk to launch games on a new platform, but in this industry, not taking risks is a risk in itself at best, and downright suicidal at worst.
ugh, another Patcher article. I don't know why Nintendo fansites such as this one keep reporting what he says. Might as well get any random Sony fanboy, slap 'analyst' as his job title, and let him spew crap out of his mouth. But there is someone that's even worse than Patcher...the one handing this so-called analyst a pay-check.
Whilst this is great news of course, I think plenty of gamers (myself included of course) would also like to see the Servbots and Miss Tron in another 3DS game....one which Capcom canned for no reason
Why the hate against these fan groups? What exactly are they doing wrong? They are fellow Nintendo fans just like us, who want to play games that they SHOULD be playing, but of course have to cope with how lame Nintendo of America has become nowadays. I'm not even from North America, but for years, we had pretty much the same situation with Nintendo of Europe not wanting to localize anything. At that time, I wished that people would band together to protest against this injustice. (As a side note, Region Locking is the lamest concept ever invented on the face of the planet. Ok maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point)
Why not get a PC gaming rig if you're only interested in power? (Not saying all PC games are all power, no innovation of course, don't get me wrong) Nintendo is different in that it strives to be unique with plenty of innovative features.
"That being said though, a lot of the online modes and customisation on the 360 and PS3 will be geared towards the core audience a little bit more." This is a bit worrying...is he implying that they're taking a casual approach with the WiiU? I don't mind having extra features that give it a Nintendo feel, but these should be additional features and not replacing the experiences found on the versions available for the other consoles.
Even gamers on the HD platforms diss COD, it's not just Nintendo fans that do so. I'll diss any recycled, repetitive games regardless of the platform they are on
Why do we still listen to what this guy says? My cat can come up with better predictions than Patcher. And no, Nintendo weren't just lucky with the Wii. It was a revolutionary console that was meant to draw in new people to the gaming industry. Putting so much emphasis on luck implies that Nintendo didn't really have this aim from the get go, which wasn't the case. Maybe he's just mad that he got it wrong, along with his predictions on the DS and 3DS, amongst others...
Epic, stop being lazy/fanboys -.- And if they think their engine will dominate next gen like UE3 did in the current one, they've got another thing coming
This obsession with power and graphics is something I'll never be able to understand. We've reached a point where devs are almost forced to spend insane amounts of time, money and resources for minimal increases in performance...and yet many so-called 'hardcore' gamers are oblivious to that fact, due to their single minded obsession with shiny graphics.
Why do some guys keep blaming Nintendo for the non-localization of Monster Hunter? Nintendo - publish their own games and produce the hardware for developers (in this case, the 3DS) Monster Hunter - a Capcom game, and thus any decision on the franchise rests entirely in the hands of Capcom, NOT NINTENDO.
Surely, this isn't too hard too understand, right?
Even as a huge Nintendo fan, I have to say that Nintendo got it wrong big time here. The 3DS was doing fine as it is, why risk it with releasing the XL so soon? Also, as an early adopter, I was more than a little pissed at the fact that Nintendo are releasing a revision (or whatever they want to call it) just a year after the 3DS launch. I'm sure I'm not the only one. And having a considerable amount of Nintendo fans being reminded about the perils of being an early adopter wasn't the smartest move a few months before the WiiU launch...
Well, the article ends with this question - "Do you feel that the gaming landscape is dominated by those kinds of titles?" They have not just dominated the market, they have over-saturated it with these kinds of titles. I think it could eventually lead to people moving on to another genre (hopefully), but I guess we'll have to wait and see
They should offer a basic bundle of the white WiiU model, and the black WiiU with a Pro controller packaged in. Kind of like a 'casual' bundle and a 'core gamer' bundle. Note that I don't really like the use of these terms, but this might work in terms of marketing
It's kind of a bummer not to see this sooner, but this was expected. Sakurai is the kind of developer that needs time, but then creates a masterpiece, and that is a great thing to see in the video game industry. And remember, launch games never utilize a console to its full potential, whereas games that come later in the console's life cycle do. The new SSB will definitely be worth the (long) wait
€300 - €350, Gamepad, console, an hdmi cable, the usual manuals that no one reads and Nintendo Land bundled in. And there's a slight chance that they'll bundle in an additional Wii remote I guess (I'd rather they put in a Pro controller, but they already said that it will be sold separately). Anyway, if Nintendo want to get this console flying off the shelves, they have to remove almost all reasons for waiting out. For example, it might sound silly, but a lot of people would probably wait for the black Wii U if it isn't available at launch, and there is no reason why it shouldn't be.
Anyway, it is a shame, but at least Miyamoto justified why the online element isn't there. If this weren't a launch title, they probably would have found a way to keep the framerate from dropping dramatically, and the online element would have been there, but again, I don't fault them. They had to have a killer launch title, and this is it.
Yeah, I frequently get stranger invites on PSN...it can be a bit irritating. But anyway, the removal of friend codes will obviously streamline online interactions, and that is obviously a good thing. I just don't get why this was not implemented on the 3DS as well. Even back then, I think Nintendo knew that people thought that their FC system was archaic
This sounds like something that can appeal to both casual and established gamers, with the added bonus that it might convince the casuals to try out the so-called 'hardcore' franchises. My only gripe with this is that it took waaay to much stage time at yesterday's press conference.
Eh, a shame that the shares in the hands of businessmen who aren't even gamers anyway. Most of them just want Nintendo to focus on casual games for mobile phones. Idiots. Anyway, I'm not saying the press conference was great, because it could have been so much better. But I'm getting tired of these whining shareholders. I wish actual Nintendo fans could buy these shares, but alas, that is not a possibility for most of us
Since digital media costs less to sell than retail copies, that difference should be reflected in the pricing. Yeah sure, PSN game prices usually costs as much as (or even more than) the retail copies, but Nintendo should know better than to follow a bad example.
I'm prepared to give this title a chance. I'm sure that it's not going to come close to Xenoblade Chronicles, but it seems like a good game in its own right. And those Club Nintendo coins will make an awesome addition to my collection
As one of the many members of the '100,00 Strong for Bringing Back Mega Man Legends 3' Facebook page, I'd like to thank Nintendolife for publishing this article. The more people know about our cause (and that it's still alive and kicking), the better
Not only should MML3 have seen a release, but if Capcom had one ounce of common sense and logic, they would have used the opportunity provided by the 3DS to re-release MML1 & 2 and The Misadventures of Tron Bonne in due time. At least the Mega Man fans really rallied together after that cancellation, so all hope is not lost yet...As for Capcom, they'll soon realise that the over-milking of their main franchises is not a viable long-term strategy.
Xenoblade, Skyward Sword, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower in less than a year...yep, I'd say the Wii is going out with a bang. The only thing that's left now is the localisation of Pandora's Tower in NA and global localisation of Earth Seeker. Come on Nintendo, make it happen!
A little history lesson indeed....about what happens when companies waste more time slandering Nintendo rather than focusing on their own products. You hear that Sony?
If they want to attract the so-called 'core gamers', then they have to start with the name. I only care about the console's potential to attract great games to the system, but a ridiculous name can potentially hurt the new console's image in the eyes of the general public.
(Nintendo Revolution - best. name. EVAR. I was stunned when Nintendo named their console 'Wii', rather than keep that awesome prototype name...)
Please let this be true. If it is, I hope they keep the character customisation features and Ezio as guest character from the console versions. (I suppose asking for Link to return is too much though...or is it?)
