My apologies for being late to your party @Damo. I've been coming to this site for a few years now and I have always enjoyed reading your work. Really glad to see you get this promotion. You definitely earned it! Congratulations and best of luck to you mate!
I appreciate your take on this game Damien. I have to say that after reading the review I expected the score to be a 7, not a 9. It is good to hear that it is a solid experience even though it sounds like it is predictable and hardly brings anything new to the table. I'm still picking it up because I managed to get it at a great price on Newegg. The game I am really looking forward to is New Super Mario Bros U.
Well, at least they are making an interactive comic that fills in the events of the story from Mass Effect 1 and 2. Not as good as experiencing the whole games but I guess it is better than nothing. I have them on my Xbox 360 so I'm good.
If they released this game on the Wii then yes it would definitely flop as the Wii is at the end of it's console life, that and the Wii simply is not capable of doing all the things that the developers have planned for this sequel. The Wii U seems to have all these issues covered. I seriously doubt that the Wii U will be a flop. It will likely be a very hot item this holiday season. It has a lot of potential and having this game in it's library would be an excellent addition, niche game or not. Little King's Story definitely has it's followers. Heck, it is probably my main reason for owning a Vita. I hope that things will improve for the PS Vita but the way it is going right now things aren't looking too good. I just think that releasing this game on a next-gen system would be a much better option for it's success.
I loved the original game and I'm really looking forward to playing the sequel on my PS Vita. However, I think that this game would have been a perfect fit for the Wii U. It would probably be more successful on the Wii U too considering that sales for the Vita have been pretty lackluster thus far.
I am really tempted to pick up a 3DS XL after hearing all the positive feedback. I am going to have a tough time holding out until Black Friday because I am hoping that Nintendo makes a special edition of the XL.
The Olympic Games always put me in the mood to play Track & Field II on the NES. Too bad it isn't available on the Virtual Console. Ah well, I still got plenty of games to play anyway. I'm going to be playing some Rhythm Thief & The Emperor's Treasure, Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy, Colors 3D, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3,
Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters and Mole Mania.
Lots of good stuff this week. I will definitely be picking up Wario Land, Mole Mania and Colors 3D. I will probably be getting Dot Runner as well. Oh and I almost forgot about World Heroes Perfect. I never played it before but I am anxious to give it a go.
So glad that we finally got Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters today. I will probably be picking up Rabi Laby 2. I was thinking about getting the first game but now that this one is out and it is only 200 points it is a no-brainer. Oh and I'm talking about the price, not the gameplay.
Well, I have the first two games on the Xbox 360. I still need to pick up the third one but I'm going to get it on the 360 so I can close out the trilogy. Not really much point in me picking it up on another system considering the hours that I put into building my character then not being able to port her over.
I was actually hoping that this one would turn out better than it did. It looked like it had a lot of potential. Glad that I waited. Thanks for the review Jon!
I've never seen the Adventure Time cartoon before but when I heard that WayForward was working on this game it piqued my interest. So far it looks pretty good. The gameplay reminds me of Zelda II which is a very good thing. I'm going to order the collector's edition, it should be worth it.
Great review James. I have to say that it just won't be the same here without seeing your take on the Harvest Moon and Sonic games. I never picked this one up because of the negative things I read about the 3DS version. I will probably pick up the DS version though. I have always enjoyed the Harvest Moon series and I am definitely looking forward to playing Harvest Moon: A New Beginning.
Thank you for everything you have given us James. You have always been one of my favorite people here at Nintendo Life and I am proud to call you my friend. You made a huge impact here at NL and I'm sure that you will do the same at your new job with Nintendo. You will be deeply missed but I take comfort knowing that you have a brilliant future ahead of you. Best of luck to you and spread those clever puns of yours throughout all of Nintendoland!
I have been wanting to try out Angry Birds Space but since this will not include that I will likely pass on this. I do hope that there will be a demo for this because I would like to see what the 3D effect adds to the game.
Congratulations and best of luck to you my friend. This site will not be the same without you. You will be greatly missed but they are truly lucky to have such a talented fellow like yourself at the Big N. That is such a great opportunity and I am very happy for you! Way to go man, make us all proud!
Oh and congratulations to you @Damo. Good to see that Nintendo Life will be in excellent hands.
Crap, I shouldn't have hesitated on claiming my reward yesterday because all I'm seeing today is last year's gifts. Did they run out already?
EDIT: Nevermind, I shut down my browser and opened up the page in a different browser and I was able to order the cards. Kind of weird but hey, as long as I get my cards I'm happy.
This is the first year that I am eligible for the Club Nintendo Rewards prizes. I never really bothered to do the surveys before. It is a nice surprise for me that I don't have to use up any of my coins for the platinum prize. I might get the cards but I'm tempted to get Metroid II: Return of Samus since I don't have that game yet.
@Kifa: Those third party titles that Koos listed are mostly all ports of games that are already on or are coming to PS3 and Xbox 360. With each third party title that does not come to the Wii U it is a potential lost sale for Nintendo. I was planning on picking up Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 on the Wii U but now I am going to get it for my PS3 instead. This news is disappointing to me because I really would like to see the Wii U succeed but it is really starting to look like most third party developers are reluctant to commit support to the Wii U. For instance, Take-Two's President Strauss Zelnick, which is the parent company of 2K Games said that they "haven't announced anything for the Wii U yet" and that he is "skeptical" of the system. This company produces games such as Grand Theft Auto, BioShock and Borderlands. These are major franchises and not having them on the Wii U I believe is reason for concern. Nintendo will surely deliver with their first party games but they need all the third party support that they can get. I'm hoping that Nintendo has another hit on their hands with the Wii U but I too am skeptical.
Uh oh, this definitely does not bode well when it comes to third party support for the Wii U. I have a feeling this trend is going to continue for a while.
@Mickeymac: Don't get me wrong, I think that it was a fun demo but with so many games coming out I just needed to prioritize which games I can afford to buy at launch and which ones I can wait on. I hope that you enjoy it man. I'll be sure to pick it up later on.
Oh yeah and Flip the Core looks like a pretty interesting title. I'm going to wait for the review though. I'm also glad that I got to try out the Rhythm Thief demo. I thought that it was okay but not good enough to keep my pre-order on it. Will likely pick it up when it drops in price.
Some really good stuff this week. I plan on getting Marvel Pinball as well as Bomb Monkey. I bought VVVVVV when it first came out and it was definitely worth it at full price. Nice to finally see some sales from Nintendo. I was hoping that we would get a discount on Dillon's Rolling Western like Europe did. Oh well, hopefully soon.
Wow, seriously?! Ha ha ha, this is just too funny! I really want to see the size of this thing. I'm not upset about this in the slightest because I know this accessory is optional but I still think this is hilarious. I'll just stick with my original 3DS, thank you very much. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that Nintendo is already working on the successor to the 3DS and that one should have two circle pads/analog sticks. Or at least I hope so.
The Atari 2600 was my very first video game console. I didn't have it for long because as soon as the NES came out I traded up. Still, it was an awesome system and I had a lot of great memories playing it. Happy Birthday Atari!
I'm hoping for $299. Any higher than that may put off people who are on the fence about buying one. I think that would be a fair price and hopefully it will come bundled with Nintendo Land. Nintendo also has to compete with sales of the current Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita as well as Apple devices. If they set the Wii U price at $299 or lower(doubt it but that would be great) then that should give Nintendo a good advantage against Microsoft and Sony's next generation of consoles as long as they can deliver a steady stream of first and third party games.
It is going to be interesting to see exactly how much Nintendo prices the Wii U at. I know that they don't want to repeat the same mistake that they made with the 3DS launch price. I read that Iwata was concerned about the cost of Wii U Gamepad's second screen and he actually considered scrapping the idea at one point. I imagine it is going to be a tough balance for Nintendo to find a price that consumers find appealing as well as makes them a profit. It is not just us that are waiting to find out the price, I'm sure that Nintendo's competitors are eager to see what the price will be so they determine their next move.
I love the bigger screens but I'm not too crazy about the colors that the 3DS XL is launching with. I'll probably pick one up eventually but I'm going to wait until Nintendo releases a cool limited edition before I make my purchase. For now I'll just stick with my current 3DS.
I saw the gameplay video that was shown during the Japanese Nintendo Direct a few days ago and the game looks like a lot of fun. This game should be a perfect fit for the Wii U's online social aspect. I'm holding out for the Wii U version but it is going to be tough for me to resist picking this up on the Wii since that version is likely to arrive first.
Reggie simply doesn't get it. He really should try listening to what the fans want instead of trying to tell us what we want. If he actually believes that what core gamers want is Wii Fit, SiNG and Nintendo Land he is delusional. Wii Fit had strong sales at the time because that is when the Wii was at it's peak but that no longer represents Nintendo's standing in the console video game market. Those sales were driven by casual gamers which have long since abandoned the Wii and opted for tablets and phones. Nintendo had a rocky start with the 3DS but they have since recovered and are doing better. I thought that Nintendo had learned their lessons from the 3DS launch but judging by their E3 press conference and Reggie's ignorant statements I feel less confident that Nintendo will be able to pull off a successful Wii U launch. I really hope that I am wrong because I want Nintendo to succeed. They are my favorite video game company and I only criticize them because I want them to be successful. There is nothing wrong with demanding more and having higher expectations of a company. I am no fanboy so whichever company provides me with what I see as the best value for my dollar and best entertainment experience will get my money.
@Soviet-Dictator: You should try checking out the PlayStation Blog when the PS Store updates on Tuesdays, there are tons of Sony fans complaining all the time. I like it. I think the much bigger screens are great but I am disappointed that there is no second circle pad. I really hope that the battery life is improved now. I need to see what the launch colors look like before I decide if I really want to upgrade. Oh and I don't mind about the AC adapter. I am still using the adapter from my DSi to charge my current 3DS, as long as it is compatible with the 3DS XL then I am good.

Cool but 900 coins is a bit much. I have the coins for it but I'm not sure if I really want to blow them all on this.

Looks like the summer of fun is over. Oh well, nothing good lasts forever. I still got plenty of games in my backlog to keep me busy so no biggie.

Re: North American Nintendo Direct Round-Up (22nd June)
I though that this Nintendo Direct show was far more eventful and interesting than Nintendo's recent E3 press conference. I was completely surprised by the 3DS XL. I like the new, bigger screens and the improved the battery life. I'm not sure if I'm going to get one though. Now that I've seen more of the new 3DS XL, I think that the original 3DS design is more sleek and sexy looking. Maybe I'll just wait and see if Nintendo releases a special edition for Black Friday this year.
Re: Bigger Nintendo 3DS Console Revealed
Thanks for updating the article with the extra info guys. Nice that the US is getting an AC adaptor after all but I assume that means no charging cradle. That black and silver color that Europe is getting sounds sweet. I see that the battery life is slightly improved. Hmm, not sure if I really need one of these since my current 3DS is working just fine but I really love the bigger screens. Decisions, decisions!
Re: Bigger Nintendo 3DS Console Revealed
@Tasuki: Okay, cool thanks for that info. I missed that part. Can't wait to see what they look like. I wish that black was a launch color though.

3DS XL is real? Holy crap!
Re: North American Nintendo Direct Set for Tonight
I'll be up so I guess that I'll watch it but I'm not getting my hopes up too high.
