The Ring Fit ring did shoot out from between my legs during a battle. Thankfully, that did not kick off a Final Destination style chain reaction that led to my demise.
Great to read about this games success! I hope people continue to pick it up and enjoy it over the coming years. And I hope I finally defeat Raven Beak some day (soon).
I’ve almost finished playing through Disco Elysium. As a person who is coming out of a very hard year that connects with a lot of the game’s topics, I’m glad I’m playing it now. Maybe 9 months ago it would have been too much. I appreciate the deep reflection and honesty in the game. I’m sure I’ll play it again.
I also bought Gris this week on the 75% off sale. Looking forward to it!
I finished a playground of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, which was a joyless experience for me. Thank you save states and rewind! I’m joyful to move on the A Link to the Past.
Also playing some Donkey Kong Country to remember what fun is. And will try some more to defeat Raven Beak in Metroid Dread.
Great choice! I played it for the first time earlier this year. But will be happy to dip into a bit again even if I don’t have the time to complete it this month.
Looking forward (with a touch of sadness) to finishing Disco Elysium this weekend, and then hoping to forget everything about it so that I can play it again soon. It’s great.
And, for a completely opposite gaming experience, I’m getting a taste of what I’ve been missing for the last 30 years by playing some old Kirby games. The level victory dances are cute and I’ll probably have the jaunty music stuck in my head forever now.
After completing The Legend of Zelda, I’ve moved on to Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. The boss on the horse gave me flashbacks to the trauma this game caused me as a child; I’m not sure I have the strength to push on further.
Thankfully there is Cruis’n Blast to enjoy, a game that understands fun. And Disco Elysium is no fun but so engrossing that it’s hard to put down. And maybe I will finally get serious about defeating Raven Beak in Metroid Dread.
I will finish up the original Legend of Zelda first—left off last evening half way thru the 9th dungeon. It’s been 30 years or so since I last played it…after about an hour muscle memory took control and playing it feels sort of like being in a trance state.
I played that game a lot when I was young and it’s fascinating to see how much I’ve retained, dormant deep inside my brain. I imagine other fellow ‘gamers of a certain age’ have the same experience returning to a beloved game after decades.
I’ll start on Zelda 2 next, which will be much more difficult because I can’t rely on the comprehensive game knowledge built by my younger self. I played Link’s Adventure some but never owned it and I’m pretty sure I never completed it.
Also, going deeper and deeper into the muck of Disco Elysium.
I will be facing off with Ravenbeak in Metroid Dread, trying to resist making all the worse choices in Disco Elysium, picking up keys in Cruisn’ Blast and perhaps playing some Zelda games on NSO. Enjoy the weekend, everyone!
I finished Earthbound this week (so Nintendo, bring in the official localization of Mother 3, please!) and started Disco Elyseum last night, really impressed and quite confused so far!
Seems like the total of our comments here make the point: what the heck is NSO meant to be exactly? I would certainly appreciate Nintendo clearly defining the service. Right now it feels more like two tiers comprised of unrelated bits of content and functionality that are grafted together. Which leads to frustration amongst users when each component individually feels lacking or inadequate.
Good point above about how subscribing to NSO/Expansion Pak is more like placing a bet on a hoped for future than buying a service that you are convinced by in the present.
I recently subscribed to the base NSO and I’m sure I’ll get plenty of values over the course of a year from it. But I’m not sure about renewing the subscription or bumping up to the Expansion in the future.
I’m pushing onward in Earthbound, I doubt I’ll finish it this weekend, but getting close. Plus some Cruisin’ Blast and want to play the demo of Kirby, I love the look of that game!
@Fizza No official manual in English unfortunately. But as mentioned there are guides and walkthroughs available online. I just recently finished Earthbound Beginnings and while I did it mostly on my own, a few glances at a guide were very helpful and time saving. I loved the game, but would have enjoyed it much much less if I had to sink many hours into trial and error and finding out what the items did in game.
@metroid02 The clash of perspectives you mention is a good point and it’s not something that is going to simply disappear over night. Enjoyable and welcome teasing should not be persecuted, but I do think a boss or owner has a responsibility to communicate to employees in a respectful way.
The original article is very long, but also quite interesting and puts the complaints in the context of a company that grew very quickly, hiring a staff located around the world who work remotely because the studio has no main office. One layer to the story perhaps is that jokes and comments which are ok when a company is 5 to 10 people might no longer be appropriate when being written in an official chat to 80 employees working remotely from around the world. And it seems that the founders of the studio lack the management and leadership skills to realize that.
Ha, a company’s boss saying “we’re like a family here” is a sure sign of trouble ahead 🙂
Bosses saying “your work is sh**” or “this makes me want to throw up” is not an example of ‘a direct communication style’—it’s unprofessional and inappropriate in any work context, in Austria or anywhere else. There is a clear difference between ‘direct’ and ‘demeaning and insulting’.
Likewise, jokes about genital size and racial/religious backgrounds (especially when said by bosses and owners) are inappropriate in official company communication anywhere. No employee should be subjected to that on the job. There is no way to acribe that to ‘Austrian work culture’.
The general lack of praise in German-speaking workplaces is a valid point, and I have often seen instances where cultural expectations on this clash. But if you read the full article, it’s clear that the lack of praise is a side note to a much bigger issue.
I finished playing through Earthbound 0/Beginnings to start the weekend. Loved the experience (despite the grind) and the music will definitely stay stuck in my head for awhile.
Almost finished with Metroid Dread, been taking it in bite-sized pieces. I’m sure there will be a long period of me being stuck on the final boss.
And started the demo of Triangle Strategy yesterday. I’m super impressed and will probably be buying it eventually!
My main focus is pushing toward the end of SMT V, I’m almost there, I think. But I guess there’s plenty more to do after the initial ending. And also chipping away at Metroid Dread, been making progress in little bursts and loving each time I dive into it. And also will finally open up the Ring Fit Adventure that I bought a couple weeks back, looking forward to giving that a go!

That Japanese box art is simply too funny. I gave it a vote out of pity.
